In my honest view this match-up is just ridiculous. What has Owen Beck done to qualify himself for a title shot? He was stopped by Monte Barrett for Heaven's sake.
The thing about Valuev is I thought he was going to be a beast for a guy his size, i mean come on 7 foot and 320 pounds..his fights with Levim, Etienne, Nobles etc i thought he was going to be good, then this guy loses to an out of prime Donald and Hugging man ruiz
See, I've only seen clips of him. A guy I know in the U.K. sent me a disc of the Ruiz fight; but I can't get it to play; but from everything I've read, he's a typcal giant. He supposedly boxes okay; but rarely does a guy that big generate the kind of power you would expect them to. Power is more speed and snap and natural heavyhandedness...not raw strength.
If Donald can do as well as he did, I think Beck can beat him. All he's got to do is box him.
Valuev is the only active Heavyweight who has not lost a fight in the last 13 years.
True; but outside of Donald and Ruiz...who of consequence has he beaten?
Beck was referring to his amateur record and actual boxing skills.
I've met Owen and he's a real nice guy. He's also confident of a win because of Valuev's lack of experience. He truthfully doesn't deserve the shot; but I hope he makes the most of it and brings a belt back to America.
i hope audley harrison fights someone soon. age seems to have caught up with him. i hope buddy can make him better
I have never understood the hype. Harrison won a gold medal, but that's about it.
Don't tell me Beck is in the top15.
he is ranked 69th by boxrec, i know that is hardly official
he is probably more like the 40th best guy at heavy right now
What exactly does a heavyweight world champion need a tune-up for?
this is all about don king milking his new cash cow, hes got lyhovich in check cause he owns him 100%, and he also has valuev for another 3 or 4 fights, gotta make the most money while u still got em, people love valuev in germany...
Actually, the match-up couldn't be more perfect. It is an undeserving champion vs an undeserving challenger.
threads like these where everyone is in total agreement just dont come along very often around here. beck has lost his last two fights against legit comp and his last fight was aginst a jounryeman in which he weighed in 8 pounds over his career high. i expect him to lay an egg, probably lose by 1st or 2nd round knockout. beck is not even a top-50 fighter at the moment.
when you hear that valuev is challenging owen beck only one thought comes to mind...
"What the heck?"

Yea, I agree with you, Nikolay Valuev fights whoever they tell him to fight with... sooner or later he's gonna get stopped, it's just a matter of time, he's a tittle holder so a lot of fighters are hunting for him...
For true boxing fans this is just a major disappointment. I can understand why upcoming boxers fight weaker opposition in order to gain experience and stuff, but a champ should fight the best, this is what titles are there for.
I agree, but on the other hand it seems that this is the easiest match up both, to get and to beat for valuev.
I am just disappointed because I think Donald was robbed, maybe Ruiz as well, and now he is fighting a guy like Owen Beck. Some things are just wrong.
