Watching this week's blockbuster down under fight between Danny Green and Antony Mundine showed one thing clearly. Danny had one gameplan, one style and when it wasn't working, he wasn't able to change to a Plan B
Most boxers are the same, if the way they fight isn't working, very few can switch to a totally different style and box effectively and i don't mean just switching to Southpaw and back again etc.
Out of all the current boxing superstars, which fighter can effectively change their style ?
What about boxers from history ?
Mayweather, and I've seen both Mosley and Vargas Brawl as well as box. Vargas doesn't get enough credit for the boxing skills he has because ppl remember his wars(trinidad,Oscar,Mosley).
Those 3 fights are "the wars he's had" for a reason. Those are the 3 best fighters he's been in with, and his boxing skills have fallen well short of the mark. His boxing skills were inferior to theirs, and therefore he had to brawl, and got his ass handed to him in all three fights. THAT'S why he doesn't get credit for his boxing skills.

Of current boxers, Ricky Hatton has showed ring smarts that are second to none.
Of all-time, Eder Jofre has a PhD in this category. Marvin Hagler deserves a mention.
Please dont take this as a dig or put down to Hatton but he is not that versatile. Hatton has to fight going forward.
I would say PBF is probably the most versatile. Corrales is pretty versatile he can slug it out, box and throw combos, or back up box and counter punch. ODLH is extremly versatile also.
i agree, personally, with the folks that say the pretty one is. for some reason there's folks that think he's a fluke or overrated, but i think he's the answer to this thread and, simply put, great.

They are second to Floyd Mayweather. Look at the way floyd adjusted in the zab fight to how hatton didnt adjust at all in the collazo fight. ricky is effective at what he does, but he has one style and thats all he does.
Hopkins and Barrera come to mind. Perhaps i'm still imagining them in their primes, but at their best, they could do it all. Whether it be boxing strategically from the outside or simply brawling it out on the inside, they did what they needed to do. And they were equally effective using either style.
In history, there are too many to name, but Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, and Eder Jofre just came to my mind.
yeah, you can throw floyd in that list, he can adapt to any style and he can fight any style as well, although he hasn't seen them all yet his track record speaks for itself and it's pretty damn good.
