If Hatton wants to reach a higher level than he showed Saturday night, he needs to maintain his fitness year round. Clearly Hatton is dedicated in camp, but I think he faded at the end because it takes a lot out of you to lose all that weight quick. Look at what it did to Roy Jones to do that just once. hatton can't keep doing this between fights if he wants to be at the top level in this division. It is a testament to his talent that he has been able to get this far blowing up between fights. But he will never beat Mayweather like this.
This whole situation doesnt make sense to me and here is why. Your body has a weight for which it is settled in on, and you will hover around that weight unless you force your body either way. Now if Hatton is consistently blowing up to neat 170(!) between fights then something is up. His supporters say he is fighting at 147 with a 140lb body, yet he is forced to obviously crash diet and train in order to get his NATURAL weight back to 140 for fights. This info is telling me Hatton had a 150+ lb natural weight, and the artificial weight is his 140lb body...
Soda
I never understood how fighters blow up between fights.
I understand maybe putting on 10lb but some of them put on a lot of weight...
I just wonder how they do it. I know good metabolizm runs in my family but damn.......Hatton 170 between fights???
part of being a professional athlete is staying in shape.
Why do u think theres an offseason for baseball, or a training camp for football. IF u dont stay is shape year round, ur only allowing urself to get so fit in a certain amount of time. Hatton not only leaves himself to little time to get in shape, but he does to much.
For hatton, to much pays off in stamina. Hes got some of the best in the game. But it hurts him in fatigue. In the cases of professional athletes, to much training can lead to permanant injuries and permanant side affects. This is why athletes in other sports only train 5-6 days a week.
Hatton knows what hes doing when he works out, but he has to do one thing or the other:
A) get in shape earlier or stay in shape year round
OR
B) Lessen the amount of days he works out. Fatigue is worse then gaining muscle
Bernard Hopkins defended his middleweight title a record number of times because he stays in shape in between fights.
most definately.. if anyone knows how to take care of their body its hopkins for sure..
Man does anyone remember me debating a Hatton support about this a few weeks back? I was debating the point that the longer Hatton waits for his "tune-up" fights the worse for him.
My arguement was that due to his between fight lifestyle and fighting style that he has a shorter window of being "prime". Marciano had the style and was out of boxing by 30yrs old, Frazier was shot by around that same age as well. The same can be said of Tyson.
I was of the opinion that since PBF stays in relative good shape and is fanatical about health that he would probably have a longer shelf life. That and the fact that his style allows him to get hit less often than most fighters.
The Hatton supporter was of the opinion that Hatton's regiment was healthier due to Hattons body getting rest and that the constant stress PBF put his body through all year round would add wear and tear quicker than Hattons system of letting go between fights. As proof he stated that Hatton had the best engine in boxing and attributed that to his training only for fights and otherwise resting his body.
Blowing up between fights is not good but it's his body.He likes to enjoy himself between fights and he should be able to do that.Jones lost 25 pounds of muscle and Hatton loses 40lbs. of fat.It won't take a toll on his body like it would be if he was losing 40lbs. of muscle.
I sort of disagree and agree at the same time.
He definetly has earned the right to enjoy himself between fights. Every boxer has. Out of the millions of ways to make a living, i think professional boxing is the hardest and most grueling.
But losing 40 pounds of fat is very unhealthy. It drains u phisically. His punches wont have the angst or pizzaz that they usually have. Of coarse, losing muscle like jones did is far worse, but he should just stay in shape between fights. Even if it means just running 5 miles a day and punching the bag for an hour.

u know i hear how he gets big between fights and i also hear that he need to fit into 147, cause he still has a 140 body. sounds like an excuse to me
definetly. i think it already has, as shown in his last fight. He plodded along instead of hopping and dodging like he always has. He is getting a tad worse every fight now, and i dont think its a coincidence.
Losing 50 pounds in 5 weeks, several times a year is not healthy for anyone. If he stays in shape all the way up until his next fight, he'll be his old self again.
