I'm pretty sure that im not the only one that would be estatic if this match up ever happened at 140. I think event he hatton haters would like to see this one.
But what i was wondering, is if anyone thinks that this fight has trilogy and fight of the year potential. I absolutely love inside wars like castillo vs carrales. This would be a much better inside fight then even that fight, because these are pure inside fighters we are talking about.
Especially Hatton. At 140, fighting on the inside is what he lives off of. Cotto could definetly roll with hatton at his style but it would be tricky.
If during this fight, Cotto and hatton both go down sometime during the fight, then i see this one going for fight of the year easily. i have no doubt in my mind that this could be another trilogy with Gatti/ward or carrales/castillo stature. If this fights happens, i would pay thousands to go and watch it live.
And do u guys think it would be PPV?
Hahahaha, you trying to stick Cotto in the same hole as Hatton? So optmistic you are.
uhhh, they are in the same hole. i see cotto having the same problems as hatton when he starts out at 147, although unlikely. Nobody thought hatton would have problems when he started out.but he has.
Nobody thinks Cotto will have problems, but he will
First off Hatton and his camp recognized the problems Cotto would face at 147lbs as compared to 140lbs. In an interview Hattons trainer said that he wouldn't have Hatton face Cotto at 147lbs.
Secondly there is no way Cotto can stay at 140lbs for more than 1 more fight. I think even 1 fight after Paulie is very bad for Cotto's health, just look at the Branco weight-in pictures.
Cotto has some good points against Hatton stylisticly.
-Cotto can box going backward and forward.
-Cotto is a good boxer with good short punches
-Cotto counters well.
Hatton has a few advantages here too:
-Hatton will have more experience at 147lbs and better acclimated to the weight.
-Hatton has a high pressure style and when pressed Cotto often turns into a slugger instead of a boxing.
I'm still of the opinion that Cotto's really big trouble will come from a slick boxer with decent to good power (like a Zab Juda) someone who he can't just cut off the ring willy nilly on because they can make him respect them with there power. Paulie is not this guy. But Hatton, Cotto, Castillo or Margarito fighting each other would be interesting.
I actually think that Hatton would be succesful against the wide punching Margarito because of the range Margarito needs. Margarito not being known for counters helps Hatton aswell as the fact that Hatton will absorb less punches coming in than he would receive from a boxer with straight and short punches.
Good post. I agree mostly

Cotto is also left handed and can fight southpaw very well.
But if Hatton learns to keep his gloves up, it wont make a difference. Hatton has abs of steel and a chin of rock. He doesnt rely of speed so body punches arent as effective on him.
And i dont cotto going southpaw unless he gets very frustrated and is getting schooled by hatton. I dont see hatton coming close to schooling Cotto, so i dont see much southpaw action going on. Maybe 4 minutes of teh fight is fought southpaw by cotto. just a guess though.
Its possible if hatton doesnt wake the fuck up. If we see small improvements in his next fight, he's skrewed. If we see large improvements in Hattons defense and in his left hook, i see a great fight and rivalry in the making.
But yea, i could still see Hatton getting schooled by Cotto if he doesnt wake up and realize the odds he's up against. He better not fight any more southpaws and embarrass himself again.
personally, no1 get all furious, bit i honestly think Cotto will give Hatton a boxing lesson and embarass himn. It wont be a war, Cotto is to smart. And Cotto is a great boxer, especially when he wont be dehydrated at 147.
Fair enough, but embarrass him? i personally think itll be a GREAT fight, with everything a boxing fan could want in it. I guess we just have to wait and see. But dont tell me u dont wanna see this fight. Even if hatton gets KOed, it'll still be very exciting.
I still see Hatton winning by KO, but whoever wins, it WILL be by KO. If hattons left hook is at its best, and Hattons fighting like he did 3-4 fights ago, i dont think theres a figther that can beat him. We'll have to see how hattons evolves into 147 and into america, and then we can judge with more accuracy

Experts say Cotto is too drained at 140, hence making him too weak at that weight. Cotto should be fighting at 147. He would carry even more strength into the ring.
i do agree, but i would like to point something out right here and now. Dont expect something big from Cotto in his first 147 fight. Just like hatton, he'll prolly under-estimate it. I still see Cotto winning but in the same hatton fashion. Im afraid people are gonna be calling him over-rated on this forumn as well.
Of coarse, everything spells success in Cotts favor. He's got class, hes got power, and hes a plessure to watch. So all it would take to win this fight would be an over-the-top right to land flush.
And he wont have as much problems as hatton cause he aint facing a southpaw.
But when Hatton and Cotto do fight, i hope to god it makes PPV. both fighters deserve the payday. It would be a war even at 147. If the fight was at 140, it might go the distance. at 147, there is no chance. I see it ending in round 9 or 10 with a hatton or Cotta KO punch.
I'm drooling right now just thinking of this fight.
ok im going to say this real simple....cotto has been on more then a few ppv undercards since the oscardelahoya shanemosley 2 fight
hes made several defenses of the wbo strap all via way of tko/ko
hes highly exciteing .....
and yes im sorry but he will put more asses in the seat then wright , taylor ,mayweather and outside of england hatton
it is what it is cotto is big time excitement
Ricky needs to move back down, to be at his best. Cotto and Hatton is bound to happen. Also what about Cotto moving up to 147 I know people say he is struggling to make 140, but given the fact that people question his chin alot at 140 how would it make the jump. Ricky's chin is rock solid and he got wobbled by non puncher.

The fight would have to be at 147, Cotto is fighting 2 more times at 140, Paulie and then prolly Castillo. Hatton is not on his list for this year. And once Cotto goes up he wont be coming back down. The fight will have to be at 147 which i think will favor Cotto.
And yea i think it should be on PPV live from MSG. Sh!t id order it along with all of Puerto Rico, all of England, and tons of american boxing fans. Cotto by KO.
Wow, am I not surprised someone from Puerto Rico would say that.
Sorry but Cotto isn't a big enough name yet, and neither is Hatton.
Cotto is already headlining a PPV for his next fight against Malignaggi.
Ring Magazine has named him most exciting fighter to watch
People love watching Cotto, his style is truly exciting.

There wouldn't be a hope in hell that it would be a PPV in America. At least if the fight happened tomorrow. See if Cotto and Hatton can grow into bigger names in the U.S.
