Give Hatton A Break

It wasn't Hatton's performance as much as it was Call's performance. I had Hatton winning the fight but Call fought extremely well, way better than I thought he would. Yeah,Collazo impressed me a lot.I was at this fight,and Luis was landing the cleaner shots.He had a good game plan.

He wins a fight against a tricky opponent , a southpaw, at a new weight, wins 3rd world title in a row, (at 2 weights), showed a great deal of determination when things got alittle uncomfortable..But on a decent show Isn't it true that even the best boxers, Mayweather for example, have had some tricky fights that made them look poor .. Are you expecting him to blow away everyone at the top level..That simply isn't going to happen.. No one can do that.. He's still 41-0... I love Ricky and I will give him a break but there are a couple of concerns that I have... 1) Luis Collazo is not a big puncher-had that of been Antonio Margarito clocking Ricky in the 12th the fight would not have continued-so the only 3 fights at 147 Ricky should consider are Gatti, Cotto or Mayweather. I disagree with you here. I actually think that Hatton will do better versus Margarito than he did versus Collazo. Margarito is a looping puncher and needs more room to land than Collazo does with his straight 1-2', Hatton can smother him. Margarito doesn't counter as well as Collazo and this is actually where Hatton took his most damage. Also do to his wide shots Hatton wont take as much punishment coming in on Margarito. I think Cotto at 147lbs is not that good a matchup for Hatton. Cotto is a good boxer and has tight punches as well as good straights. Cotto also counters really well and at 147lbs I would say he would be fresher and throw crisper more fluid combinations like he did earlier in his career before weight problems.

Rule One..never Judge A Fighter Purely On What His Record Is Written Down As.. Heh except for the part about Hatton being a better boxer. Hes a better brawler but he didnt show much boxing ability in that fight.

I love Ricky and I will give him a break but there are a couple of concerns that I have... 1) Luis Collazo is not a big puncher-had that of been Antonio Margarito clocking Ricky in the 12th the fight would not have continued-so the only 3 fights at 147 Ricky should consider are Gatti, Cotto or Mayweather. 2) The fight shifted a number of times and in the middle rounds Ricky was having some trouble getting off (which I havent seen from Hatton beofre)...I dont consider Collazo to be nearly as slick as some do but he was quick enough and slick enough at times to puzzle Ricky and not allow him to get off...this is Floyd Jr.'s specialty, puzzling guys and not letting them get off. But like you said give Ricky a break-his style is such that there are not many easy fights for him-that is just Ricky Hatton.

Thats exactly right, Collazo had the perfect style for Hatton, if anyone could hve beat Hatton that night it was Collazo. In my opinion Hatton did well, Collazo fought better then ever. This is what I said on 5/8/06 As crazy as this sounds I think Collazo could give Hatton some real trouble, but I think Hatton is a much better boxer. The whole weakness against Southpaws is true with Hatton. Im still rooting for Hatton though. This will be a fight that Hatton wont dominate in but will win. People are going to come onto BoxingScene and post how weak his performance was and how he is overrated. The truth is Collazo has the PERFECT style against Hatton's, and just because it won't be domination doesn't mean Hatton can't give PBF a hard time.
