I'm a Hatton fan and I think he's a really exciting fighter but I think I've seen a clinch every 20 seconds in tonight's fight. Hatton is gonna have a very difficult time gaining American fans by being the "more aggressive John Ruiz" version of the welterweights.
Like I said, he's still a very exciting fighter in my eyes but The Ring Magazine made a huge mistake comparing Hatton's excitement with the likes of Cotto, Pacquiao, or Gatti. I mean I understand that Hatton's an excellent inside fighter, but I wish he'd be more like a Jose Luis Castillo kind of inside fighter, less clinching and more punching.
They seriously need to start deducting points for holding. If any casual fan were to tune into this homohugfest i can definitely see why UFC is on the rise. I always wanted to see Hatton destroy Mayweather but fuck that. I'd rather endure his cocky attitude than this shit. Call it strategy or whatever the fuck u want but that shit is boring and no one wants to see that shit unless u r a ricky hatton fan.
When its still a close fight, I find Hatton very exciting. When he knows he has the fight won, he does the smartest thing and holds. Not exciting, but smart. I didnt notice the clinching that much untill the championship rounds. He got the job done. All the haters that say he has no skill can shut up because they are the same ones that thought Urango would beat him.
here are some pics of Hatton training

Letme get back into the hate! Hatton blows ass! He's garbage! Taking up the honor left behind by John Ruiz as most boring fighter you can imagine. I really don't think Hatton has much longer of a nice career because once he steps it up to a true elite, he's done. Cotto at 147lbs(if he ever moved up), would absolutely destroy him with the body shots. Urango even hurt him at times when he did throw some in the 5th. Mayweather would pull a Gatti style fight on him and I don't think he'll match up well with anyone else style wise to put on a good show. His clinching is bullshit and I really hope JLC punishes his ass for all that shit. Also, anyone else get a laugh when he talks about P4P talk? He goes up to 147lbs, barely survives, goes back down to 140lbs and talks P4P, lmao.
that's just bullshit and you know it. at what point did urango have hatton hurt , except for a couple of body shots in the 5th ?
and yes he is getting big names.........castillo, in the summer. i just hope his legs going in the last couple of rounds ( not from being hurt  ) is from going back down in weight.
i said guys when he fights a guy thats somewhat a puncher he holds in fear. i think he has a suspect chin also
the first 6 rounds were great. fast paced, clinches were quick. But instead of closing the show because he knew he couldnt, he clinched a TON. i was frustrated, but u cant blame him for making the right decision
at least run though.

I've seen what Hatton can do.I love him as a fighter and I've seen what he could do.But so much more could be accomplished without all of the clinching involved.
hatton's style is NOTHING SPECIAL
he holds WAY TOO MUCH and often fights dirty
and people say he's a great body puncher.
i've seen better body punchers than him. many of'em.
even urango through more damaging body shots in the fight...
his style isn't holding
he has looked drained in his last two fight now and his legs went in both fights.
the only other fight he held as much in was against kosta, and this was his strategy so tszyu couldn't throw that big straight right.
i hope it's just hatton getting used to 140 again. because all the haters can make as many threads as they want. the truth is that was nowhere near the level hatton can produce, that brittish fight fans have come to love.
he holds when he feels the guys power. and guess what! hes getting nothing but big names now. so take another guess what his strategy will be.
and not exciting in the states means not big exposure all around
So did John Ruiz. Boom there ya go.
I can't disagree PHX.
We know he's not Sugar Ray Robinson.
I just appreciate a winner, that's all.
You're right though...
I made money, again.
Boom. There you have it.
OMFG this man clinches sooo much it was honestly making me angry because he cannot mix it up. Mayweather would it him for lunch. The man honestly jumps in to clinch even Mayweather would not fall for that he would just fight backwards like he can and punch the crap out of Hattons head.
Against Mayweather his entire gameplan would be trying to close the gap as fast as possible. Hatton can close the gap faster than anybody in the sport, but after tonights fight and the three fights before that I don't know if Ricky is quite the same fighter he used to be up-close for if he actually does close the gap fast enough and get up-close with Mayweather.
Calzaghe by far is the only fighter that i like compared to Hatton. Hatton like to clinch alot. I haven't seen this fight yet, but i can tell from what i am hearing that he clinched alot. I mean Hatton is a good fighter, but clinching all the time can get annoying. This is why i don't look up to him. Lets see if Hatton will move up to 147 for bigger fights.
It's not so much the style.
He pulls everything he can out of his frame and ability.
He can't control anything else. He has heart, he has skills.
People like Ricky Hatton the person.
His style gets the job done. Does it not?
He won, again.
Boom. There you have it.
So did John Ruiz. Boom there ya go.
