Did anyone here watch that fight live? I heard storys of people throwing up and crying when that fight happened. So has anyone here seen the great upset when it happened, or know someone that did?
I thing that most people LOVE to ignore.....Tyson stayed up the ENTIRE night before getting drunk. He had Larry, Moe, and Currly in his coner. And he hadnt trained hard since the Spinps fight. Id put all my money on that if even Ali had done that with any of his motivated foes, he'd have been KO'd to. I thought under the circumstances, Tyson fought well enough. If only they had a rematch......
Tyson should have won. Douglas did a good job by staying in there. I won't take that away. It was just meant to be Buster's night. All in all, I like the fight. It's in the past and I bet both of those guys wish they could have that night over. Especially Tyson.
Fair enough; but I doubt Douglas would want it over. You can't redo perfection, which is what he was for once in his life.
Peace, I'm out.
I've watched the figth so many times, I've practically got every combinatin memorized. I have no doubt in my mind Douglas could have gotten up before he did.
Could he have survived had the punch landed 30 seconds before it did? I don't know; but I do know Mike nailed him in the opening seconds of the 9th; and rocked Buster....yet, he fought back harsher than ever before or since in his career.
That night, pure and simply, was his night as he found the greatness within. He'd always had the talent; but never the heart. With all the stuff going into that fight, he was a man with nothing to lose....no creature is more dangerous.

I swear to you right now I am as sober as a judge. I just got home from work. I watched the fight. Buster was kicking his ass. I am not denying that. Tyson laid out some killer shots on his head in the 8th round. Douglas went down in the end of the round. He got up on the 9 count and did not have his legs under him. Before anything could be said or done the round ended. 10 more seconds in that round and history would be different. Had the ref counted right, history would have been different. Those few extra seconds can make all the difference in the world. You need to watch the fight again.

 What fight were you watching....or what substance were you on? Douglas was very clear headed when he got up, or he wouldn't have recovered in :60 seconds and whopped Mike's ass all around the ring in the 9th. Mike caught him with a hellacious right at the beginning of the next round and Buster came right back and nearly had Mike out on his feet.
I guarandamntee you, if Don King hadn't pulled that bullshit at the end of the fight....you never would have thought of it.
Douglas's job is to watch the ref, not the time keeper. He got up before 10; and Tyson got the same "long count" as Douglas; but couldn't continue.
Buster Douglas whooped Tyson's ass fair and square. End of Story.

All right. Here is the deal. Buster Douglas should have lost that fight. He was knocked down at the end of round 8. The ref fucked up the 10 count, he got up on 9, and was fucked up. He was not clear headed. He was wobbleing around and even the announcer said it. As soon as he got up the bell rang to stop the round. Mike Tyson was robbed. I just watched the fight over. What exactly does it mean when you can not be saved by the bell unless it is the 12th round.

Oh I agree 100 percent. Holy beat Tyson like a cheatin old lady. However, you have to admit that Holy also butted a lot, not just in the Tyson fight. Remeber Rahmans head? That shit doesnt happen from a punch. LOL.
I think it does happen from just punches. Look at Vargas and Mosley.
Ive never thought Holyfield was a dirty fighter. Or at least no more dirty than any other. Plus he would NEVER try to pussy his way out of a fight like Tyson.
That was some fight live. Leading to the fight, I thought that Douglas would either tire out and quit, or get knocked out. Even when Buster was outboxing Mike in the early rounds, I thought that eventually Tyson would catch Douglas with something. I have always thought that when Tyson finally did catch him, that Douglas could have gotten up sooner if Meyran picked up the count properly (he sure seemed clear-headed and disappointed that he went down when he pounded his glove at the canvas before he got up). The other thing that was out of the norm for that fight (the announcers mentioned it), was that the live audience sat there motionless and silent during the entire fight, which they attributed to Japan being a different culture and such.
...Yep, Evander took his heart out and ate it. I told people years earlier that Evander would whip that ass if he ever got the chance. Holy in his prime was not scared to mix it up and bang with anyone. Tyson folded when he got as good as he gave. I still maintain that he is a coward and a sackless piece of crap. Evender would have beat him like a drum no matter when they met. Either before Tyson got sodomized in the joint or after.
thats what opinions r for right
I meant that Tyson was the one looking for a way out coz he knew he was getting his ass kicked.
Any other fighter with any balls would fight back until the end.
Tyson IMO, became a fucking pussy that night against Holyfield by trying to get Holyfield disqualified.

300 mil points to any one that can up load that fight for me. It's been years since I have seen it and would like to watch it again with a more open mind.
yeah i'd kill to see it i saw it when i was 12 when i was alternating between reboot
anyone got it for me to see. all i remember is that Tyson got schooled and deserved a Loss. now i hear stuff about a long count? can someone put the fight up here. i gotta see it again.
This fight is on ESPN classics like every other week :lol1:
Your right. Holyfield a natural light heavywieght was pushing Tyson around and working his ass over. I will admit that Evander was the king at butting and getting away with it.

Douglas beat Tyson fair and square. It was the ref's fault he picked up the count late, not Douglas'. Plus, you'll remember that as soon as Douglas went down he punched the mat in anger, indicating that he was probably OK and could have gotten up in time had the ref's count been accurate. And if he was dazed when got up it wouldn't matter--the round was over, or had like maybe 5 seconds left.

Tyson looked alright physically for the fight--he was at his fighting weight, 220 lbs. He just looked listless and unintested. He didn't fight anywhere near his best, but credit should be given to Douglas, who fought a very good fight. Douglas had a lot of talent and could have had a much better career had he been able to maintain the level of focus he had for the Tyson fight.
Douglas gave Tyson a whipping. I had him ahead 7-1 and 1 even going into the 10th round. Plus, though I'm not sure if this is against the rules, I would only give Tyson 10-9 for his 8th round knockdown, cause aside from the knockdown Douglas was winning every second of that round. Also, I think 95% of heavyweights would have gone down from the combination Douglas KO'd Tyson with. It was vicious...huge uppercut followed by 4 hard shots. Douglas may not be a hard puncher compared to some other heavyweights, but when you get hit cleanly by a 230 lb man as many times as Tyson did, you are gonna go down. Tyson unquestionably had a first-rate chin.
Tyson could have had Ray Arcel and Eddie Futch in his corner that night and he still would have lost. The lack of an end-swell does not change the fact that Douglas was completely dominating Tyson from the opening bell; Tyson was completely off his game and probably didn't even want to fight. Douglas's focus and Tyson's lack thereof determined the outcome of that fight.
Tyson and Douglas both had huge physical talent, but they were mentally weak.
