Former cruiserweight champion Vassily Jirov improved to 35-3-1 with 30 KOs after winning a hard fought unanimous decision over Luke Munsen (18-5, 13 KOs) at the Coeur d’ Alene casino in Worley, Idaho Thursday night. The bout was contested in close quarters with Jirov starting fast with a blistering body attack in the early rounds. In round five Jirov again went hard to the body before bringing a right hook to Munsen’s head which deposited the Spokane native on the canvas. To his credit, however, Munsen picked himself up and began fighting at a faster pace culminating with an eightth round straight right hand which sent Jirov to the deck. The last 2 rounds were hard fought but Jirov prevailed for his 35th victory.
Hey guys, don’t be monkies. Give respect to the true warrior.
1. Jirov is a world class boxer with a great pedigree, fearless heart and unique style. If he’s shaped he’s one of the most exciting fighters of today’s boxing.
2. He never was as strong as Bell or Mormeck are and his opponents at cruiserweight was not very strong.
3. JT is an ATG and you can’t talk trash about Vassily for losing the close fight.
3. Jirov’s best fight was the Mesi war in which Joe was KOed.
4. He’s past his prime at present.
5. He never will be champ again.
6. If he will be able to prepare himself well he will give hard time to any boxer at C- or H-weight.
I’ll forever be his fan. I wish him big paydays and health until and after the end of the boxing career.
Extending your logic, Brewster beat some nobodies between Etiene and Liakhovich fights ...
and notice how nobody talks about those fights as if they were good wins?
Dude I know that Jirov sucks bad at heavy... sucks real bad.
But I can't believe he got his ass knocked down by somebody I've never heard of.
He's garbage. A cheap fighter, dirty, weak weak chin, stamina problems at heavy. And he can't hit.
Let us never speak about this bum again.
Your head is full of hay

saying Jirov beat 3 cruiserweights and 2 heavyweights after the Toney fight is like saying Wladimir Klitschko beat two heavyweights between Sanders and Brewster fights

Jrov was 2-2-1 at heavy weight so I don't know why that guy says he lost three fights since Toney
He won two more at cruiser after the fight and lost to Moore and Mesi and won two at heavy and a draw
who did he fight? let me guess: NOBODIES?
I'm sorry, but I've always thought Jirov sucks. I scored the fight with Toney 116-111 every time I watched it just like two of those judges had. That fight was not close on the cards at all. Lederman gave Jirov all sorts of rounds in which he got whooped. Jirov is not a great fighter in any sense of the word, get over it.
Wouldn't you guys rather see Jirov go back down to Cruiser, & face guys like Bell & Mormeck ? I would.
Jirov is back to cruisers... His last fight was at cruisers.
Toney would handle Jirov easily at this point.
I think Jirov will have a huge motivation for a fight like this, so I would not count him out on this.
I would probably bet on Jirov, because he will be a huge betting underdog in this fight.
Jirov always gets mad unlucky, fights hard for 5 rounds and knocks the guy down only for the guy to come back and try twice as hard. WHo was that heavyweight he was dominating before getting knocked out, Larry Donald? I forget.
Michael Moorer... Jirov was beating Moorer easily, but Moorer pulled a Foreman on him.

Sounds more like he's "mad flawed".
Toney did fight and beat better opponents, but I think that's it for Toney. He has only one or two fights in him.
By the way, Jirov said that there were ongoing negotiations with Toney for a rematch this summer.
Toney would handle Jirov easily at this point.
