Assuming he wins this fight in late April. I mean, he's beaten him already by a wide margin. Byrd has gotten old since then. Wlad would practically be 5-1 fav fo good reasons: 1, Byrd cannot hurt him, 2 Wlad is too big and skilled at this point.
So, will you give Wlad big credit if he beats Byrd? Or no?
McCline
= Decent Power - No skills - Lost to Zuri Lawrence
Ray Mercer
= Way out of his prime - It took him 6 Rounds to take out a 44 Year old Mercer - Mercer was a handpicked opponent not a mandatory
Francois Botha
Tell me one worthy opponent Botha has beaten? You cant because he has'nt beaten any!
lol,,I love how the haters provide misinformation. mercer was 40 when he was destroyed by wlad and was on a 9 fight win streak and never stopped up to that point,,,,44 when mercer struggled with him. funny how you dont mention monte barret who was never knocked out by anyone else,,including rahman. and shufford who beat brewster. keep bringing it haters
Didn't Briggs KO Mercer in less than 6 rounds?
not. 7th round in a very close fight by a questionable punch. not to mention mercer was practically 80 yrs old by the time briggs fought him
In 7 rounds. :) But it was a KO no stoppage.
thats was hardly impressive. it was mercer 4 yrs older and was a very close competitve fight until briggs caught him with what looked like an illegal punch. whereas wlad totally dominated him and took him out with a legal volley of punches. no comparison dude
Mercer fought Lennox in 1996
Mercer fought Wlad in June 2002
There was a BIG difference between those 2 Mercers, The Ray mercer that fought Wlad was 43 Years old
lol,,,,,another nice piece of misinformation. mercer was 40 when he fought wlad and was coming off a 9 fight win streak and hadnt been stopped up to that point. sure,,,he probably wasnt the same mercer lewis fought but it was still an impressive knockout win
Didn't Briggs KO Mercer in less than 6 rounds?
6 years after wlad beat him in 6, ray mercer gave lennox lewis hell and some people think that mercer shoulda won that fight...
He should have chosen the Brewster rematch, especially after all the talk and accusations.
I've got 1,000,000 points that say Byrd is gonna win. ;) Anyone wanna bet? :)
i'll take ur bet... I bet on wlad...
If "anyone" can beat Byrd, then why hasn't he lost a fight in six years ever since...oh that's right, the last time he took on Wlad.
oh damn, that musta hurt...
I feel the same way. This fight is quite pointless minus the belt. Wlad just wants the belt and careless about what the boxing public would think of him. I bet money that if Byrd dint hold the WBC belt, Wlad woulnt fight him. Well maybe he will, considering Ivan Calderon hits harder than Byrd.
I won't give credit to Wlad if he wins this fight. This is like Calzaghe givin rematch to Lacy again. We know who's betta already. Cut the shyt.
man ur full of crap, manny and wlad have stated that they want to unify after they beat byrd...
Nope! Anyone can beat Bird! When Wlad beat Sanders & Brwester, then I will give him credit.
not anyone, why does he still hold the ibf belt, most people think byrd is the number guy in the heavyweight division, hes been champ the longest, beating brewster doesnt do anything for wlad now, unles brewster beats lyhovich to win back the belt, corrie sanders is outta the game no point in oppening that book again...
The comparison to Foreman Frazier is that Foreman blew Frazier away esasily, even though Frazier was a superior fighter who had beaten better opposition, because Frazier had a style and size that was custom made for Foreman.
Byrd may be made for Wladimir but that still doesn't change the fact that Wlad deserves credit for beating him. He's one of the top tanked heavyweights currently.
I dunno, I think this will be a big victory for Wladimir. Even though this is a total mismatch, this will mean alot to the heavyweight division as Byrd is the longest reigning heavyweight titlist. After the confusion that Brewster-Lyakhovich created, this win will put Wladimir back at the number 1 or 2 spot at heavyweight. It depends on where you rank Toney and Rahman.
what's sad is, after this fight is done, Wlad could move up to become the #1 guy at Heavyweight by his fans' admission. He shouldnt get credit fo this win at all, bottomline.
He'll still be the first fighter to beat Byrd in six years, so yes of course credit is due. I agree that Byrd is passed his prime but he's still one of the best heavyweights out there. Just because Byrd is an easy fight for him style wise doesn't mean he doesn't deserve credit. I mean that's like refusing to give Foreman any credit for beating Joe Frazier.
why would anyone refuse to give Foreman credit? He came from TKO loss to Ali and KOed Frazier in 5 who by the way won against Ali 2-3 fights back.
well you gotta realize, Wlad only dominates those that brings no power in the ring. Wlad is a good boxer, but a chin made of glass. He can easily outbox a smaller Chris Byrd wit his skills.
McCline TKO 10
Ray Mercer TKO 6
Botha TKO 8
Those are the lightest hitters youll find around.
