kicks with circling motion like roundhouses utilize the longer legs for a more crushing effect where the foot gains so much speed being the farthest point of the circling. when the body is also made into a whipping or snapping motion extra power can be gained as well as the use of the hips.
kicks designed for a more straight attack can use either the heel or the ball of the foot, by the big toe, to put much pressure into a small point, piercing through defenses or even braking bones / causing internal pressure, like being kicked in the tab below the sternum. ouch!! i think if hard enough, someone could die from that kick.
that fight was cruel.
whoever set up that fight should be ashamed of themselves, it was just to make the boxer look stupid.
although that kickboxer was good natured, i would like to see him fight a prime RJJ.
Demonstrates the stupidity of using 2 weapons against 4 or 6 weapons. According to the rules, the dummy had the option of kicking and knees apparently, so the outcome isn't surprising.
I am a MMArtist myself and I don't kick. Not because I think it's pussy but because it is not my preferance. I prefer boxing and BJJ. I've fought against kickboxers as a boxer and I've won. I admit that they didn't have devastating kicks like that guy did. If that were so, I would have lost. I wouldn't fight in K-1 as a pure boxer because if you do and try to get on the inside the kickboxer would simply clench, knee strikes and they would seperate then he'll kick you again. That's why I prefer fighting rules where you are allowed to grapple if your boxing ability becomes absolite.
It always sucks when your hamstrings and quads go numb...so pound them until they lose feeling! (The Bigger your muscles are the less punishment it will take to turn them off!)
"That will condition the tendons in the lower part of your legs."
tendons!!! now we're getting somewhere! a much overlooked part of most fighters training.
Most people spend their entire life trying to build their calf muscles.....and genetics usually dictate how big they grow. It's the hardest part to make grow.....
For the sake of leg strength, tendon conditioning is vital and that's usually what tears when you recieve trauma on a lean part of the body.
IE the neck.

Lower Leg Kicks Disable.
Yup, thats why you've got to end a fight against a bastard such as that.
There is no other way for a boxer, especially in a K-1 type match.
legacy, there are many ways to deflect a kick with your leg. you HAVE to know what you're doing though. you can deflect with the bottom of the foot, not by recieving the kick on your ankle. and yes, i do have strong feet - i eat my wheaties! :D
i also love checking at the knee joint. it stops momentum of the kicking leg proviided that it's not at the end of the motion. there are quite a few ways to block a kick in these ways, but you can learn for yourself if you find the right knowlegeable people.
Man u must have some strong feet, I remember trying to deflect a kick with my foot and I damn near broke my ankle.
What J typed is golden.
And one thing you can do man...is this.
Stand on one foot holding a 50 lb dumbell with the corresponding hand....then twist your body to the side.....and turn your back as well. Don't do it fast or else you might hurt yourself.
Do the same with the other hand. That will condition the tendons in the lower part of your legs.

"When I sparred I always went with leg kicks, every time I tried to kick to high id lose balance soo easy haha."
the higher you kick, the more you risk. before ever practice kicking, you should practice balance exercises. second, high kicks(above the waistline) are generally not recommended outside of practice. now, some people can kick high very quickly and powerfully, but an experienced fighter would/should be able to snatch the leg via rolling with it, sweep the back leg, or just run in at you making your kick useless unless it lands 100% flush and procede to knock you off balance. unless you are walker texas ranger, high kicks will get you in trouble much more than low kicks.
yea i just think im better with my hands than my feet.
Here's my arguement against that
Yeah Mirko Cro Cop is a impressive fighter, but those shots look like candy compared to the shots that Cooney landed, he freaking snapped people in half.
I saw Mirko land clean kicks and the guy doesn't flinch, nowhere in Gerry Cooney's (Mind the 12 ounce gloves which saw off alot of the pop!) entire career will you see anything like that, it's either they KO him or he KTFO's them. But yeah Cro Cop would probably beat Cooney 3 out of 5 fights lol...(Bad chin :P)

That's a black dutchman's bad impression of a salsa tango dance. LOL.

xion, you actually initiate the kick partially. you either end up kicking him in the kneecap, or get close, and then wham!
rwk, you are certainly correct. an experienced fighter may lift the leg in order to not recieve the full damage(if i got what you were saying correctly), slide into the attack to nullify the power of it(which is most likely to be at the end of the kick), or simply "circle" through it.
it is very possible to deflect an oncoming low kick with a hand(wouldn't recommend the use of both hands), but notice i say deflect or parry - not taking the full force directly on the forearm or hand. it also depends on the type of low kick as in many traditional arts a kick can very well be transitioned into a step. i personally like to kick, or use the foot to deflect, the oncoming low kick while stepping into an advantageous position.

...Noone can kick to the body like Gerry Cooney can punch to it though...

True, no need to expose yourself hitting to the body if your body kick is harder and better I guess...Noone can kick to the body like Gerry Cooney can punch to it though...
But how do you keep from getting taken down like what kept happening to the Boxer in this video? If he folded his leg up to take the kick he would have just fell over when the kicker kicked the one leg he was standing on! Freaking pogostick! lol
let him take you down, but pull him down in the process. The minute your leg is swept from underneath you...there is a split second when he's off balance. Get to a knee quick, and clinch his midsection and tackle his ass.
If you fall on your back...lift your knee when he tries to mount and shift all your weight to either side...to dismount him.
