Great quote by Tarver during the interview with Steven A on ESPN. Steven A was asking why Tarver snapped at Larry Merchant after the third fight with Roy, and Tarver said he's sick of everyone saying Roy is shot. Tarver said if Roy is shot, then he was the one who shot him, which is a great point. By the way, Tarver is essentially dropping down to Light Heavyweight from Heavyweight (like Jones did before the first Tarver fight), so if Tarver wins, you can't blame Jones' performance in that first fight on weight loss. :D
On a side note, that interview was great. Steven A and Hopkins both bashed Roy. Hopkins said he wanted to fight Tarver because he is better than Roy and also said (whether it was a mistake or not) that Tarver beat Jones three times. Steven A said Roy blew his chance to be a great fighter when he let his ego get the best of him.
Watch the press conference again

You need to go watch the vid again. Hopkins never said that Tarver beat roy 3 times. Did you miss the whole part when hopkins was saying that Tarver cant beat anyone in the first fight he needs a 2nd chance to Win. Then hopkins went on to joke about telling his wife to give him a second chance after he had sex with her the first time lol.
i saw that last night on espn two. There was a great interview with b-hop and tarver about the upcoming fight. And how Tarver is now the supposed "legend killer"
Stephen Smith was on Tarver's nuts on the whole show. His a freaking hardcore Tarver nuthugger.
As far as Tarver calling himself a legend killer, well, ita kind a true. Why? Jones has been pro boxing since 1989, thats 17 years. Hopkihns has been pro boxing since 1988, 18 years. Which means their were past their primes. They are not the same fighters anymore comparing from 5-10 years ago. Tarver has been fighting since 1997, 9 years. So if he beats Hopkins, he is a legend killer. Beating legends past their primes. He even challenged Mike Tyson, which we all know that Tyson is a long way gone already from his best days in boxing.
Since Thomas Hearns is not retired yet, Tarver should call him out. Then fight Virgil Hill followed by James Toney.
Then he can change his monicker from "Legend Killer" to "Hall Of Famer Killer".
Or 'coffin-dodger killer'
When Tarver retires from boxing, the only legacy he will have is that he KO and twice beat a "past hist prime" Roy Jones.
Since losing to Roy Jones during their amatuer years during their early teen years, then watching Jones going to olympic, and becoming a pro world champion, Tarver has always been JEALOUS of Roy Jones. From the day he beat Jones till he gets old, he will keep yapping about how he is better that Roy Jones. Tarver does not belong in the pound for pound list. The only fighter he beat that was good was Roy Jones.
RJJ has been shot since the virgil Hill bodyshot- COMPARED to how he was from Tate thru to Hill. best time for RJJ to hang up the gloves may of been after the Griffin 2 fight
Am I the only one who remembers Tarver closing his eyes and swinging for the fences? The punch was pure luck, watch it, slow it down, look at tarvers face, he closes his eyes swings away and braces for impact. Luckiest punch ive ever seen in my life. And the only reason Tarver won the 3rd fight was because Roy stopped fighting. If you watched it, When roy was throwing he was landing at will, i mean he slapped both his feet then punched tarver right in his mouth. That fight was roy's to win and he gave it away. Dont be surprised if you see Hopkins win this one decisevly. Tarver is the biggest coward in the sport. He desrves no respect or props for anything hes done. He's had one real victory against glenn johnson and now wont ever fight him again because he knows johnson would prolly floor him in the rematch.

what badasses...trying to deflate roy's accomplishments when hes not there to defend himself...the both know what happned/what would have happened if they faced roy when he was in his prime.
I messed reading your idiotic posts. Lol, you like to argue until the next day. Everyone that debates with you, they end the argument with you, because you will never stop, even if you get owned, you keep posting garbage after it.
Guess what, this will be my last post on this thread.

That pictures sums you up nicely.
When you can't back up what you say, start in with the non sense.
When that gets old, make a huge angry thread about how you're never coming back to this site.
Wait 6 months, come back in hiding, and hope your original non sense doesn't give your account-in-hiding away.
You've failed.
Sorry you lost the argument. You're not making any sense now. For the last time, please do not mention Roy in the same sentence with Ali & Ray.
You've had no response to the holes pointed out in the non sense you were tyring to say, and now you've resorted to just being petty.
I thought you were leaving this site and not coming back Parodis. What ever happened with that?
You forgot about the cocaine. Ray was having problem with cocaine during that time, Cocaine destroyed Whitaker & it also destroyed Ray at that time.
I watched the first fight & I though Tarver won, but still Jones looked the same in his last 3 or 4 fights when before he fought Tarver. You think Jones won, then I don't think you should mention the weight issue, because Jones got knocked out in the second fight, if that was the case, then Jones should've got knocked out in the first fight, which he didn't.
The weight is not a good excuse. Because Jones won the first fight.
You have no idea how much coke Ray was doing or when. As I pointed out, he started to fade long before the Norris fight.
And if you thought Tarver won the 1st fight, you have no idea how a fight is scored. Even giving Tarver a draw in that fight is suspect with Roy sweeping the championship rounds.
He looked faded in the 1st Tarver fight. Your notion that he needed to be KO'd in the 1st fight to have the weight be a factor in non sense.
The weight was not specificly the reason, it just added to it. He was not the same fighter at 35 that he was years before, because like Ali and Leonard, he was a guy that relied heavilly on speed and reflex, and in both their cases they began to fade around the same age in their respective careers.
And suggesting Roy looked the same in the 1st Tarver fight that he did in his previous 4 fights is utter non sesne. When you add that notion to your suggestion you thought Tarver won the 1st fight with Jones it's becoming more and more clear how much your opinion is worht here.
I am not a Jones fan...many classify me as a hater...but this thread is a joke...
Anyone that has NO fat on their body and drops 25 pounds...That will mess them up VERY bad..
Tarver is such a joke it's not even funny.
I do hate Jones, too....a lot...
But can just dropping the weight ruin him like that? Im not arguing against it, Im not an expert, just asking. Im leaning towards yes, because all one has to do is look at Jones vs Woods then just over a year later Jones vs Tarver. There is an obvious difference in speed power and chin.
Cutting the weight added to it, but it was at the same time that he turned 35 and 36.
It's no coincdence he began to fade around the same age Leonard and Ali did.
Bozo big difference!
There isn't a big difference.
Leonard was showing signs of having slipped as far back as his rematch with Hearns.
also Sugar Ray was not knocked out
That's because he dropped down in weight to 154, and Norris was not the same puncher in his weight class that Tarver is in his. He was dropped several times and dominated.
Sugar Ray was really washed up, Jones didn't show it like Ray did.
Did you watch the 1st Jones Tarver fight? Dispite clearly winning the fight on points, he sure did look as though he'd slowed.
The bottom line is fighters like Roy, Ray, and Ali who were most effective because of their speed and reflex were never the same fighters as the passed their mid 30s.
Bottom line.
Leonard was what 200 years old? Tarver and Roy are the same age. You can say Roy's weight hindered him in the first Tarver fight, but explain the 2nd fight when Roy looked great one round and got KTFO the next. Explain why Roy got KO'ed by Johnson next fight. Explain why Roy ran from Tarver the next fight. He is a changed fighter. All it takes is one knockout. The good fighters rise above it. Other fighters duck into their shell and never come out like Roy did. Tarver would have beat Roy anytime anywhere and you know it. You just can't accept the fact that there is anybody out there that would beat Roy "in his prime". So Tarver isn't in his prime then. Hey, Tarver had to battle back from coke addiction so he had a huge disadvantage. :D Excuses mean nothing. Ask Tarver.
We've been over this before, and you stop respoding because you have nothing to say, because it gets in the way of your childish hating.
Leonard was what 200 years old?
Leonard was 35 when he lost to Norris. Nice self ownage there. That's the same age Roy was when he lost to Tarver.
The point is, Roy was never the same after cutting that weight at that age, and dispite CLEARLY outpointing him in their 1st fight, he looked slow and old.
Tarver is a fresher hungrier fighter who is a big puncher.
Fighters like Roy (Ali Leonard) are guys who got by on blinding speed and reflex. In each of these cases, these guys were never the same past their mid 30s when their speed and reflex slowed.
It's the fate of a fighter who gets by on those talents. It doesnt' last.
You only continue to show your ignorance with your comments, and clearly illustrate that you're some bitter college kid who's talking about a bunch of fights and fighters you've seen very little of.
