QUIT BEFORE EU DIE
CHRIS Eubank has been urged to retire from boxing - or risk being killed in the ring.
The chilling warning comes from formerly proposed opponent and current pound-for-pound star Roy Jones Jnr, who declares: "If he continues to fight, there is the very real danger that Eubank could die in action.
"At the very least, you fear for his future health. The punches I saw him take from Carl Thompson were brain-damaging punches, the kind that made you wince just watching.
"After his performance in that fight, Chris has nothing left to prove to anyone.
"He was a great showman when he was champion, he showed against Thompson that he is a great warrior. But he no longer has the most important asset of all - youth.
"The fountain of youth does not exist. That's why he owes it to his wife and children to come out with it and call it a day, before it all ends in tragedy."
Jones Jnr watched the epic battle on American television channel Home Box Office last weekend, enthralled and unnerved by the heroic attempt by Eubank (left) to wrest the WBO world cruiserweight title from a champion a stone and a half heavier than any opponent he had ever fought.
"Your heart had to bleed for him because of his courage", said the American who then went on to say that if Eubank does box on he would need to move back down in weight.
"What he would have to do is have a bout at 175 pounds at the end of the year, then go from there. I thought he won the fight (vs Thompson), and he stole the show from the Prince (Naseem Hamed).
"But he's slower at the heavier weight and you can't afford to get caught by men so much naturally bigger than you, he can't go campaigning at cruiserweight."
Jones Jnr then mentioned Carl Thompson as a potential opponent.
"I wouldn't mind a fight with Thompson, he seems willing to travel so bring him over. Apparently he can take you out with one shot, so I'd have to be on my toes."
edit- pic wont work (from web archive)
i love the cat thompson, but he prolly did'nt deserve 2 share the same ring as rjj !
but the cat is the man- a modern day matthew saad muhammad (who i love 2 watch 2 by the way, specially his 2nd fight w/ marvin johnson)
Carl Thompson is the ultimate Rocky Balboa come-from-behind KO warrior, but he would of been utterly humiliated against Roy Jones unless he could land one lucky shot.
Eubank vs Michalczewski circa 1996 or 1997 would of been interesting,Eubanks stamina issues wouldnt of been as much of a factor at 175 and the only way to beat Eubank (unless you were, say,Roy Jones!) was to outhussle the guy. So Eubank outpoints Michalczewski,of that I am sure.
Nice!
And here's a cool article: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_19980420/ai_n14158845

That proved that eubank was a warrior, and not just a caracature, he gained a lot of respect after that.
Rjj Was Asked In 1996 What Would Of Happened If He Had Fought Eubank A Few Years Back And He Said "someone Would Of Wound Up Dead"
actually, he said "one of us might of wound up dead", but close enough :)
RJJ also said not too long ago "i always said that Eubanks was the one fighter i might of had a problem with at my peak", being sarcastic saying 'might of had a problem'- in other words 'major headache' !
Jones advises Eubank to move down in weight
Roy Jones jr. has advised Chris Eubank to ply his trade at light-heavyweight in the future.
Eubank, recovering from his brutal return fight with WBO cruiserweight champion Carl Thompson, which saw the proud Brighton bombast stopped for the first time in his career due to his grotesquely swollen left eye that hadn't had time to heal from their first fight, is left to weigh up his options.
"There's nothing wrong with the guy," said WBC 175-pound king Jones.
"His jab is still working, his neck muscles are working well enough to avoid opponents jabs. He needs to to settle in at light-heavyweight.
"He can definately win a world title at light-heavyweight, whether it be against the German or for the IBF. Light-heavyweights won't be able to withstand the punches that a cruiserweight in Thompson was taking."
Jones, who was floored for the first time in his career during his 12-round decision victory over Lou Del Valle just a few hours after viewing Eubank's second effort against Thompson on live television, insists that he himself is not on the slide.
"That's why I don't want to fight southpaws," Jones said. "Sparring partners know you. Eventually they learn enough and they catch up with you, and catch you with something good. He caught me with a good shot but I'm a true champion. I won't quit, I won't stop."
Meanwhile, Jones' TV backers at HBO have urged Irishman Steve Collins to try to defeat Welsh prodigy Joe Calzaghe first instead of coming straight out of retirement and straight into a fight with Jones.
"There would be little or no interest in Collins v Jones in America. Collins has not fought in a year and a half and although he was a very good champion there would not be a great deal of interest in him in America at the moment." claimed HBO chief Lou Dibella.
"If he wants to fight someone else before Roy Jones then interest may pick up. I would like to see Collins fight Joe Calzaghe, who holds Collins' former super middleweight crown. Calzaghe is an exciting fighter, whom we have earmarked to fight Roy Jones at some stage. If Collins was to fight Calazaghe possibly on a Jones undercard, then the winner could meet Jones in their next contest," Dibella added.
