ok, then what about defense? toney takes defence and clean punching which are two of the four scoring criteria. now he takes those two in every round, does rahman take generalship and effective aggressiveness in every round? its a difficult fght to score. theres actually only four factors. and actually, clean punching is often the main criteria with the others usually used to score closer rounds.
oh yeah?
That's the worst way to score a fight...and shows you are merely impressed by counterpunching alone. This is a fight....not a damn sparring session and there are plenty other factors involved with judging fights.
Clean effective punching is what you hang your hat on...and that's fine. You will be in the minority for the rest of the time you judge fights....and more than likely will end up complaining about it in the future.
Best of luck.
Rahman is a bum- He looked solid against Toney who was out of shape and still only got a draw--- I'm a big Toney fan but by the way Rahman looked he should of KO'd him before the 5th--- Thats what I think Rahman a bum? He is just really inconsistant. Last night he was ready determined and in great shape, rarely seen from the rock.. still think it was a great performance from both men only sad thing is like you said toney's performance would have been so much better if he was in better shape.
You don't have a clue. They talk shit because they are sick of watching lazy half rait fighters actin like they can beat anyone and running the heavyweight division. Why should you give a guy credit for coming into the ring lookin like "the blob". Those are Toney's own words now anyone elses. He should be ashamed of himself to be honest. Anyone that steps foot into a ring and didn't train at 100% should be talked to like a lazy fuck because that's what the are.
James has a very unique personality, he is a very confident person and has every right too be. I mean its not like he got into the ring last night, out of shape, and displayed a poor performance.
This man is a natrual middleweight, who fought the current WBC heavyweight champion that has significant physical advantages over toney, and still showed his vetran skills that nullified rahmans advantages.
Rahman showed up, and threw more punches than I think he has ever thrown in a heavyweight fight. He seemed like a differnt fighter way different than what we have seen in the past. He was in great shape, fighting a slick one of a kind fighter that we will probably never see again in the future.
If rahman shows up to fight other heavyweight champions in the shape that he was in against james he just might have a good chance of unifying at least one of the belts. If toney trains harder and does some road work, he still might make some more noise in the heavyweight division. Who knows, this fight might inspire him to do just that. I mean he was so close to the heavyweight belt 2 times!!
His neck is huge, and has excellent defense which could nullify even some of the better stronger fighters, but styles do make fight so idk. I figured toney would come in the ring in terrible shape, but never expected Rahman to be in excellent shape and throw so many punches for all 12 rounds, based on his most recent fights. Good fight IMO and I think the decision was right, a draw.
its frustrating listening to the hbo analysts talk about toney when he fights. toneys accuracy last night should have given him the fight. he clearly won imo, but those cocks announcing the fight for hbo dont have a damn clue.

sorry but i wasnt even talking about their comments about him being fat. i was talking about how they dont know how to score a fight.

rjj taking all four belts? LOL! hell no! i have to give toney credit for actually making a home in the heavyweight division. jones just jumped up to heavy to get a belt, and i think that was his plan in total. not to stay there and try to dominate.
it's extremely hard for me to believe that jones would've had more than a 10% chance of beating byrd, lewis, or the klitschko brothers. i also felt that there are/were a few other heavies around that would've givin him a bit of trouble besides who i've already mentioned.
I'd rather watch that go down then to watch another fight like last nights anyday.

jones going back down was the biggest mistake of his life
I agree he should have stayed there and beat the shit out of all these clowns. Why leave when you have such a good chance at taking all the belts?
Speaking of Roy Jones...I was thinking last night while watching Rahman how bad Jones would have picked him apart at heavy weight. hell he would have picked both of them apart...maybe at the same time! : )
lol now this I agree with 100%
The quality is so much different now. Could you ever in your wildest imagination even DREAM of Marvin Hagler ever gaining weight through the years and even competing with Larry Holmes or Ali? Guys like Jones and James go to heavyweight now and even last. Could Iran Barkley ever moved to heavyweight and fought Tyson in the 80's? NO. Nobody did it for 100 plus years now RJ and James have moved up and competed will with two winning big guys. It is par for the course that we play on these days

hehe I don't know about this one, maybe toney, but doubtful against rahman because rock would have probably been able to hit jones with one of them right hands, a punch that he couldn't really land clean against toney.

He is by far the most skilled heavy weight around but because he refuses to get in real physical shape he gets a draw with a bum like Rahman.

do everyone who calls james toney a fatass: that fatass went the distance with a hard hitter in great shape. him being overweight doesnt mean a damn thing.
I feel the same way, it was a great show nontheless. Toney is a former middleweight champ, and had a draw with an in shape determined, rahman who is the WBC HEAVYWEIGHT champion. I felt the fight could have gone either way, so the draw was appropriate. Any former middleweight who is out of shape but still managed to use his skills effectively against a heavyweight champion and put on a good show, is a great figher.
And exactly how has he proven that he's the best heavyweight???
do you think Roy Jones is smart? do you generally agree with his opinion on the sport?
He said the only heavyweight who has a chance against Toney is Rahman. Toney fought him in horrible shape (no excuse, I know), and still got a draw.
