Respect Toney beatches.
Toney was a very average HW imo, he beat Holyfield after Lewis, Byrd beat him, Holyfield then got his ears boxed off by Larry Donald, overrated win there, he got very lucky to get a draw with Rahman and lost to Sam Peter.
That's hilarious. Toney would have NO chance in hell of beating any Ali from 1962-1978. Ali wins 10 out of 10 of those fights.
Lennox Lewis, on the other hand, would have beaten Ali, Foreman and Frazier all in their primes.
Toney would have to chase Ali because he spots reach, footwork/footspeed, and handspeed to the larger man. Ali would hang around on the outside, jab him, and move out of danger. When he connects with the jab, he'd add in the right hand and left hook. Toney would be forced to go after him or just get pot-shotted from the outside. Ali would be too smart to go after Toney when he flees to the ropes. Even in that case, rather than going to fight at close quarters, he'd lay back and jab. Ali was content to sit back and score points with the judges if need be. He'd learn right away that Toney was a great inside fighter but relatively weak on the outside (at least against taller natural heavyweights). Ali would not get suckered in by Toney.
see?
sure, toney couldnt get past jones, griffin, or thadzi, but sure he could beat ali.
fuckin' retard.
not to say that toney would have beaten Ali, but i do think it would have been a good fight. everyone has a bad day even Ali lost to L. Spinks
Ali has been proven to be the best in his era or arguably the best of all-time, Toney's considered one of the best in his respective era,
so shut the fuck up and stop comparing two great fighters of different generations...
No my friend, again you are owning yourself in every Jones debate. Fact is Hopkins didn't have a long amateur career like Jones. Fact is the green Hopkins landed the better punches in that fight. Fact is nobody knew Hopkins will have a great career at that time. Fact is Toney lost 3 months later to Montell Williams. Fact is Toney had to lose all of those pound in a day. Fact is Toney was having personal problems. Fact is Toney had the flu.
Everyday you mention the Toney fight, who cares! Jones is & was overrated.
P.S. Fact is Jones was knocked out by 2 senior citizens.
you cant call bhop green when he had more fights then roy. its just doesnt make sense. fact is jones beat hopkins
fact is jones beat toney
he is better than both, and you cant deny that
toney never had the flu, thats bullshit
james toney himself has admitted that jones owned him that fight.
Only in UK :D
What you mean by that anyway? :D Oh and Joe is the man, but being a sensible Brit I won't even mention Calzaghe and Ali in the same sentence.... Oops, bugger :o But seriously the threadstarter is either too in love with his fighter to see sense or an idiot
too fat and too slow, he couldn't hurt ali anyways.
But he has the style to beat him, if you made Ali go forward he wan't great....but Ali would make a fool outta him like Michael Nunn and Roy Jones.
:D Only in America...
Toney beats Rahman tonight but shouldn't be on the same page, let alone sentence as 'The Greatest'...
I've seen some Toney nutthugging but this is just ridicoulos.Ali is the greatest hw ever and only some consider Toney to be the best hw now and this is a weak bunch especially compared to Ali's era.
It's funny you Jones fan are really riding on these 2 wins from Jones. Hopkins was green & it was not a PPV fight, no one at that time knew that Hopkins will become great. Still the Hopkins fight was much closer then the Toney fight, in fact Hopkins thought he won the fight at that time. Also Hopkins did land the bigger punches in that fight.
As for Toney, we all know that he needed to lose almost 20 lbs in one day for the fight, he was having personal problems at that time & he had the flu during the fight. Lets not forget Toney lost to Montell Griffin 3 months after the Jones fight. Is Montell Griffin also great.
Fact is Jones never give Toney or Hopkins any rematch.
when jones and hopkins fought, bhop had 23 fights under his belt
roy had 21
green? your making yourself look stupid
toney's weight issues would make a big difference if james was a speed or power fighter, but hes not, hes a tecnical guy who doesnt move very much. fact is, roy dominated toney in every aspect,
no montell isnt great, but he is a damn good fighter and one who both jones and toney underrated. and montell won a md, roy won by a huge margin
