"I was always impressed with him (Lacy)," said Scully. "It's not disrespect to say that someone is overrated. If I say someone is overrated right away you say. 'You don't think the guy's that good.' Jeff is a great fighter, but he's overrated in that in the 168-pound class" - "Iceman" John Scully, November 2005
For what it is worth, that is copied and pasted from an article that was online last year at RGJ.COM out in Reno before the Scottie-Lacy fight. Shaw, Finkel etc poo-pooh'd the whole thing, tried to make it look in front of everybody like I was the fool. I wonder if they see now what I saw then? I said it then that Jeff was getting by on a non-creative style that was geared for POWER. I said how it would have been suicide against past 168 pounders Jones and Toney and I think maybe my point will be taken a bit easier now.
I don't like when boxers use the sex excuse.
I don't either.
That's a ridiculous excuse that has absolutely zero scientific evidence to back it up. Someone show me.....on paper how it affects a fighter.
I need an expert opinion as well.

I think Jeff was having sex up until the night of the fight he was traveling with a new girl
First off. Oscar De La Hoya admitted to having sex prior to his fights, I don't think that had any effect on him.
And secondly.....did you install a voyeur camera in his room?

he def. is not in the league of trainer of the yearDan def. help build up up Jeff and Winky but he should have stop the fight after the 7th or 8th round ...I think Jeff was having sex up until the night of the fight he was traveling with a new girl
everyone knows how hot young new pussy can make you forget about all your chores in life. I think Jeff took a mental neurological beating he will never recover from...he was pretty punch drunk after the fight he should not spar or fight for at least a year his brain took a beating big time....
Birmingham is a fine trainer. He told Lacy to do the right thing, and Lacy choked, was thwarted by Joe, and/or was inept.
Dan told him go to the body. Jeff didn't.
Dan said throw combos. Jeff didn't.
Dan said jab. Jeff didn't.
Straighten punches. Jeff didnt.
The trainer can only tell you what to do. Jeff did not execute.
Both times he landed on Calzaghe cleanly, Calzaghe went reeling back. A couple more hits and we might have had Lacy by KO.
What the hell fight were you watching? LMFAO.

Lacy was not overrated, Calzaghe was underrated plain and simple.Or maybe it was just a case of Joe not being properly motivated for his last few fights and he just got up for this one.I think Jeff may have taken JC a little lightly although I'm doubtful it would have changed anything.I think Lacy can bounce back from this a still do big things. He is still young.
Calz said Jeff had no powerlast night. and reelingbackfrom a punch doesnt mean a thing, really, you know? When Tommy Hearns hits you flush you didn't go reeling, you went straight down. As far as Birmingham he may be a very good trainer, who really knows? I question it thoughwhen Jeff has obvious flaws that have not been corrected but that is esier said than done. I have heard that many say Dan didn't give great corner instructions and I don't know forsure but it could be something that many do not realize and that is that there are good cornerman and there are good trainers. Some guys can train a fighter great but hey don't have good corner skills and some are the opposite. There IS a difference
ANYBODY who thinks Jeff's power is not OVERRATED doesnt know what they are looking at. I am NOT saying he isn't a strong puncher... I am saying he is far the class of a Hearns, Jackson or Foster. A mans power is determined on the efect it has on its target and Jeff has hurt people, made them quit but he doesnt OBLITERATE them like those guys and others did. I never have sour grapes as you call it. I give all credit where all credit is due. I know Jeff can punch, of course but I am not a mere fan that just sees big swings and big muscles and listens to what other fan and writers procalim people as. I go by what I SEE. The proof is ALWAYS in the pudding.
I have another question for you, about Dan Birmingham.
What do you think of him as a trainer? Personally, I've never been a fan of his, and this was amplified last night. He didn't really offer Lacy a whole lot of help, he just kept telling him to straighten his right, as if that were the problem. And when he saw his fighter was in so much danger he didn't pull him out of there. To me, both are signs of a bad trainer, but moreso this: Lacy wasn't ready in any way for Calzaghe. Dan didn't have him working his jab, he didn't have him doing anything that he'd have to do against Calzaghe. I can't recall Jeff throwing more than five jabs the whole fight, but I digress. What do you think of Dan as a trainer?
As far as Jeff's power goes, not so much to you, but to others who have been questioning it. Both times he landed on Calzaghe cleanly, Calzaghe went reeling back. A couple more hits and we might have had Lacy by KO, but Calzaghe fought too intelligently.

its a shame man John dont you think as a trainer Dan failed Jeff by not stop the fight jeff was finished after 3to4rounds...after the 7th 8 th round he was total done....its a shame to see some one get whooped like that his carrer could have been saved with some fast thinking in his corner..they could have faked n injury..like atwisted ankle..hurt shoulder..Jeff def has some sort of brain damage..its a shame
He would have never went along with that. What ever happens to Lacy i dont think he would want to go out with a fake injury.
ehh I thought the whole lacy pemberton comment was sour grapes, I don't really think his powers is overrated by any means or lacy for that matter. Joe fought a damn good fight and lacy wasn't able to execute any sort of a gameplan.

SCAP, WHO cares what You do? Should I check with you first before I make moves now? Give me your number and I will make sure I get message board ettiquite from you. Thanks
If you want my number all you have to do is PM me-I'll be glad to speak with you.
Congrats on predicitng Lacy was a tool...dont yo think you shgould have waited until after he fought your guy Scotty before you went and mouthed off? In any event your comments really seem to light a fire under the Sandman and give him that extra boost of confidence.
I think you really fucked with Lacy's mind...helluva a strategy ICE.
it's like the whole Ray Mercer story all over again. he was beating everyone up, then he got a boxing lesson from Holmes and admitted that he needed to learn how to box again and focus on his skills...... history repeated it's self last night, the exact same thing happend to Lacy.
I like the fact that Lacy said that he needed to learn how to box again and that he thought that he would go over there and knockout Calzaghe. thats what happends when you believe what everybody around you is telling you," you'll KO that guy easy" i'm sure thats what all his buddies were saying leading into the fight.
all in all Lacy learned a very hard lesson, you gotta have more than just power to win against another champion.....
didnt u say that his power was overrated?if u did, its not. if u said hes rated overall, u were right. but not by THAT much, calzaghe is very underrated too.
I know hen Kenny Goould was an amateur his father trained him from what I rememeber. Who knows but if a guy has a gym and worked with Gould I would have to think he could help any young amateur. Kenny was one of the best
thank you ..i found this on him ..

Boxing club partners with Patriots, seeks downtown home

ROCKFORD -- For more than 15 years, Jim Goodman's boxing programs flourished at Rockford Boys and Girls Clubs when the clubs were under Jim Flodin's direction.
Kenny Gould, Martin Love, Talmadge Griffis, Pat Coleman, Ricky "The Wolf" Haynes and several others went on to high-level amateur and even professional success after putting on the gloves under Goodman's tutelage at the now-closed Lincoln Park and Downtown clubs.
Both men are semi-retired, but the boxing program -- re-located to a barn Goodman built on his Edson Road property south of New Milford -- is still vital. And the duo has teamed up this spring to try to make it more accessible to inner-city youth.
"We're going to get a place to bring the program back downtown," said Flodin, who has been helping at the Patriots' Gateway Center since retiring from the Boys and Girls Clubs. "Don't ask me where or how yet, but we're going to do it."
Flodin said the center, at 615 S. Fifth St., has taken on sponsorship of Goodman's boxing club and bought more than $1,000 worth of equipment "with the hopes that we can aid the program and, in turn, it can help us bring that to more kids.
"We need the additional space to do it, because it won't fit at the center."
Goodman, who said he prefers working with inner-city kids, has about 15 regulars in his program but said a problem is transporting them from the edge of downtown Rockford several miles south to his barn. Flodin said the center has been arranging rides and doubling up with parents who bring their kids to the program.
"If it was downtown," Goodman said, "they could at least take a bus to get there if they had to. I could reach a lot more kids, if they didn't have trouble getting to the gym."
Flodin said he has confidence in Goodman's program from their experience with the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"He's the kind of guy who wouldn't put somebody in the ring to beat someone up or to get beaten up," Flodin said. "He's a safety-first kind of guy."
I remember you talking for a while about Lacy's power not being what it was made out to be Ice.
My issue is that he was in the biggest fight of his career, and he couldn't throw a jab to set up a hook to save his life.
If that doesn't = over rated, I don't know what does.
I never would have thought to see him looking to throw a shot at a time without throwing a jab.
The most important punch in boxing, and I can't recall seeing him try to throw one.
