I only saw the fight live on UK television and Lacy didn't grant them an interview however after watching Showtime's interview with him directly after the fight i found him complimentary of Calzaghe's preparation and superior boxing skills.
The way he spoke made me believe that this guy knows that with better boxing skills he has the potential to be a major force in the sport so if i a brit can have faith in the guy, why can't all you so called fans instead of calling him a bum?
At the end of the day it has to be questioned why it was thought that Lacy after 21 fights was ready to fight an experienced and undefeated fighter of Calzaghe's calibre so early in Lacy's career but he'll live to fight another day and will learn from these mistakes to become a better fighter.

Lacy does deserve a lot of credit
Lacy deserves respect for having a good chin and a big heart. He has nothing else.
Yeah right, like world champions usually have, right? stop trying to downplay calzaghe's performance, Joe is one of the very few guys that could make Lacy look like that, possibly the only guy.
Major props to Jeff firstly for coming to England, secondly for challenging Calzaghe, and thirdly lasting until the end...
I just couldnt help but think (during the fight), "throw the jab Lacy"... it was the only way I thought he could get any joy... clearly not that well executed by Lacy, but a masterfull game-plan by Calzaghe that he set up and executed to his best, hence 10-9 every round with the final KD... (I didnt count the point deduction, because that was just straight up wrong).
You're damn straight he deserves credit.
1.) He flew overseas to fight Joe in an arena packed full of Welshmen.
2.) He absorbed a ridiculous amount of clean punches, and kept trying to get inside on Joe.
3.) He was gracious after the fight, and gave credit where it was due.
I read someone type "Worst losing effort...Ever". I'd like to say that's completely stupid.
Right on.......Lacy did what many could or would not have done and I am glad that some are giving him just due even tho his performance was dismal and he did not listen to his corner like he should have.Calzaghe was just to fast and too good for Lacy at this point in his career and maybe ever.
Calzaghe show the world that ordinary fighter Lacy are.Lacy are a fighter with no brain but lot of heart and chin.I am happy Calzaghe shut Lacy big mouth about he will unify the belt in SMW
NO, WRONG, it shows HOW GOOD Calzaghe is.
As for it being stopped, Calzaghe wasn't really hurting him that badly, though he stunned him a few good times, so I saw no reason for a stoppage. Fights can be turned quickly when you have someone with Lacy's raw power, and as long as they are steady on their feet and not cut up badly you should give them the benefit of the doubt.
No way Martin, Lacy was out on his feet and off balance after the 7th round or so. he was also bleeding bad and cut. it's fights like these where there is no compassion that can ruin a fighter, theres more important things than just finishing a fight.
It could have and should have been stopped anytime from the 7th. Lacy was cut on both eyes, a busted nose and battered mouth... he was all over the place at times with simply the most basic part of his brain telling him to stand up and fight. This is a sport not a fight to the death therefore he shouldn't have to receive so much punishment before his aides say that's enough he doesn't need to take anymore. You have to think of the guys long term mental health beyond his immediate career which Lacy's bozos couldn't or wouldn't because of the $$$. That said, in many ways it was good for Calzaghe that they didn't pull him out as you would always have the odd muppet saying Lacy could have pulled it back with a haymaker at anytime

Do you think the corner should have pulled him out?
Yes! In the 10th. I hope Lacy will be back, he's given us some great entertainment and some great ko's. He can still go all the way, as long as Calzaghe retires in the next couple of years?
Give Calzaghe's last few performances, it wasn't hard to think he was past his "prime", therefore an easy mark for a "young" champion, so I understand why the Lacy camp was so anxious to take the fight even if it meant going to MEN. Luckily they didn't wind up with Micky Vann as ref...
I remember seeing Calzaghe several years ago and thinking he was the real deal, then I saw a few more fights where he looked barely competitive against much lesser opposition. Last night was a stellar performance. If he's back in that form, which is than I remember him ever being, he's here to stay in the limelight. I hope he can make a few good money fights in the US before he retires.
I thought Lacy would win by mid-round KO.
Both of them were gracious in the post-fight interviews. I think Lacy hit it on the head when he said he needed to go back to the gym and start working on his boxing skills again. He was trying to be the one-punch KO artist he has been hyped to be and forgetting the name of the sport. It' good to see that he is aware of why he lost the fight.

masterful performance by Calzaghe, i knew he could box and box well, but i had no clue that he could lay down an ass whoopin like that, not of that caliber! Calzaghe is a P4P fighter to the fullest now, no question about it!
Sums up my entire sediments exactly.

i thought they should've stopped it after the 7th, because there was no way in hell lacy could've done anything at that point to turn the fight around. not even a luck punch would've saved him, he had no power what so ever in any of his punches.....

DO any of you Lacy fans feel this fight was rushed and should have been done when Lacy had more fights under him. This was only his 22nd and regardless of who Calzaghe has fought in his career, he was obviously more experienced than Lacy. Just wondering.

Nearly 29 years old
'World' Champ.
5 year professional

This is not a 'young' fighter, merely a reflection of today's boxing - carefully guided world champs who are not as good as they are told by their promoters & everyone else.
Do you think the corner should have pulled him out?
I remember watching it last night between round 9 or 10 thinking this needs to get stopped then i re-watched just now and thought it should have been stopped by his corner earlier than that!
Incidently in an interview Calzaghe said that he thought it shouldn't have been stopped and if he's ever in Lacy's position then he wouldn't want to be stopped.
Any man that can withstand that deseves RESPECT. So called better fighters have quit under less stressful conditions
Do you think the corner should have pulled him out?
he fucked him up and he made Lacy nervous, even that guy in the gym in Manchester said when he was just skipping said 'you can tell the kid is nervous'....no one needs that kind of pressure.
