Pacquiao dumps promoter Gary Shaw!!!

In Pacquiao’s rematch with Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Shaw earned a cool $250,000 or over P12.5 million, although most of the promotional work was done by Bob Arum and Top Rank Inc. Pacquiao’s close friend and confidante Rex Salud, himself a boxing manager and promoter told Viva Sports/Standard Today that Pacquiao really didn’t need Shaw and that celebrated trainer Freddie Roach himself indicated he didn’t want to work with the promoter, whose tendency to talk a lot reminded people of Pacquiao’s former promoter Murad Muhammad. Shaw, during the press conference for the Pacquiao-Morales rematch, claimed he was “100 percent Filipino” and that the hopes of the country were “riding on our shoulders (meaning him and Pacquiao).” This did not sit well with Pacquiao’s supporters. After signing up Pacquiao, Shaw gushed about landing a fighter better than a blue-chip, but right after signing world flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan, Shaw said it was better than platinum. Salud revealed that while Pacquiao was very keen on staging his tune-up fight against former super bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in Manila, there was a “good deal” being dangled for him to stage the fight in San Francisco, while still acting as promoter. However, Salud said that since many were lining up for HBO fight dates in June and July, the Larios fight would have to take place in May, if it is held in San Francisco. However, Salud revealed the May fight date was still unsure. He said if the fight pushes through in the United States, HBO would cover the fight and retain the TV rights only in America, while Pacquiao would be given the international television rights including the Philippines. Salud also indicated that HBO had offered Pacquiao an excellent four-fight deal in an effort to nail down the Filipino southpaw, who many regard as the most exciting fighter in the world today. He added that there was also interest in staging the Larios fight in Hawaii, but that Pacquiao was busy with so many endorsements that it will need some time to finalize plans for his next fight. Salud confirmed that Pacquiao had struck a very good deal with the ABS-CBN network for coverage of his next fight and should the fight be staged in Manila without HBO, ABS-CBN would handle the pay-per-view using The Filipino Channel, which reaches overseas Filipino communities around the world.
