HBO's Larry Merchant mentioned last night in Vargas-Mosley fight that due to security concern, Pacquiao-Larios fight in May will be staged in the USA instead of Manila as originally planned. Philippine president Arroyo declared a state of emergency to clamp down on coup plotters from the left-wing military, communists and opposition that have working to bring her government down.
Also on Manny, but this time on his scheduled rubber match with "El Terrible" in September, Shaw just confirmed that Team Pacquiao has not and will not agree to 132 lbs. If Pacman fights Morales in September it will be at 130 lbs.

I wouldn't consider it official even if Merchant said it himself. If Pac insists that the fight should be in Manila and HBO refused, maybe SHOWTIME will take it instead.
i think its official as far as hbo is concerned. i never mentioned showtime or any other network, did i?
i don't think hbo or showtime is going to take a risk of going to manila to cover this fight considering the present political situation there. it is a big fight i understand, but its not big enough to outweigh the risks especially to an american network in their first attempt at covering an event like this in the philippines.
it's now official! pac-larios fight in may will be in san francisco. larry merchant himself said in an interview with ringtalk.com

i feel like if morales was able to discipline himself and not balloon in weight during the layoff (remember that double chin he had between the first and second matches with pac?) that he might be able to make 130 and be strong at it.
You said it right bud! Those politicians are giving Filipinos a bad name. It seems to me that power grabbing is a constant picture in the Philippines political landscape. Part of the problem is the opposition who can't wait to get their chance to make it to the "palace" and make hundreds of millions of dollars if not a few billion from illicit government contracts, illegal lottery, kickbacks, bribes and the like.
Another is the adventurous military who has been getting bolder everyday because they get away with coup and rebellion since government is very soft in enforcing the law.
And most importantly, the people see no end to their sufferings and feel that the laws favor only the elite and the rich. Any gain in the economy doesn't trickle down to the masses because most of the industries are controlled by only the rich or 10% of the population. In the mean time prices of foods, commodities, transportation, gasoline, gas, transportation, etc., items that the common people deal everyday are on a steep rise. Add to that a high unemployement rate and low wages and you got a very discontented population.Sad picture, pal. But, I'm confident ya fellas will be able to turn things around... Though soon just doesn't seem to be soon enough, you'll get there.
God bless you all!
Morales lose by TKO earlier this time.
I can see that happening........It is going to be funny to watch Pac/Larios fight given the huge height difference it may be similar to Tony/Klitchko or something.Pac will crush him to the body tho so please don't think I am saying larios will win or anything.
we filipinos hope so but we nedd to see manny fight here even if it is just larios..i mean for the good of the nation with all the politics going aroung here...man GO MANNY morales down in 6..
Thanks buddy!
That HBO decision may just put the politicians and rebellious elements of the Philippine military in a worse light in the eyes of Filipinos. If that happens, they deserve it. They've been squandering the country's gifts for so long and so wantonly, forgetting that a nation is composed of people and political systems are not the be all and it all of nationhood. Such a distorted view.(e.g., "The sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath"). I won't be surprised if, in response to all the trouble, some time soon, Filipinos, by and large, will opt to disconnect themselves from the country's political life entirely and take a collective initiative to just move the country foreward, in spite of those politicians, religious leaders and media. If that is done, politicians and their ilks will be holding an empty bag and realize that the people have left them behind.
The question that may be raised is how can a country whose "estates" (e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th estate) are disconnected from each other be stable? I trust the Filipinos capacity to innovate. They, after all, invented "EDSA", a movement that was people- initiated and people-accomplished (that's why it's also called, "People Power"). I remain unconvinced that the EDSA personalities such as Cory Aquino, Cardinal Sin, Juan Ponce Enrile, Eddie Ramos, Greg Honasan, et al, LED the people. They were LED BY THE PEOPLE. The people PROTECTED THEM.
Subsequent events in the country's political life lend proof to the assertion that the people were not led and that the people led their leaders. Reckon: Cory, after successfully helping Ramos rise to the presidency, has never been able to influence to any dramatic extent political trends in that country. Neither has anyone else, including, the late Cardinal Sin (of course, before he passed on). EDSA DOS, which bumped President Estrada off from the palace was a spontaneous reaction and was thoroughly unled in its initial stages. The leaders rode on the sentiments of the people as they usually do, then subsequently claimed leading roles, as they always do. And there was EDSA III when the poor and hungry tried to take over Malacanang.
I'm sure Filipinos will find a way to teach their so-called leaders AGAIN and make, if pressing, a total disconnection among estates work. Politicians, religious leaders and media (all on the downslope in terms credibility it seems) should heed, and, very well learn the lessons real quick, otherwise....;)
That HBO decision may go a longer way in influencing the Philippines' future than is currently realized. T'will be a sort of "Boxing Rebellion". ;)

Is HBO the promoter for the MP-Larios fight?
If Manny insist fighting in Philippines, the fight will be held there. By the time May rolls in, this so called coup attemp will be forgotten because it will be replace by a political scandal.
There are rich and elite filipinos who wants to have a boxing event, that involves MP, in Philippines. Its profits for them and it will look good in their resume if they decided to enter politics.
Pacman is very interested in co-promoting the fight with HBO in Manila. Since he is the biggest sports figure in the Philippines, the fight is a guarenteed sellout to his Filipino fans, some of whom are big political figures and famous personalities. San Miguel Corporation, one of the biggest food and beverage conglomorate in Asia is willing to sponsor the event and willing to pay Pacquiao $1M and Larios $200K. HBO will of course make money from selling the rights to air the fight to televesion networks around the globe.
Holy crap, you're not only a boxing guru, a world historian as well. Very nice analysis.Oh, boy! :o Thanks! You're too generous! Just putting in my dime's worth-- if worth that-- pal.:)
Thanks buddy!

This is a blessing in disguise. Pac would've lost if he fought a fighter like Oscar Larios in Manila. There's just too many leeches, politicians and distractions in the Philippines.
This is definitely good news for Pac fans! I gave Larios 40% chance of outboxing Pac in Manila. Now, I give him 10% chance of outboxing Pac in Vegas. :D
I think the Larios fight is a big loss to Filipino fight fans to see their hero slug it out with a credible fighter right before their very eyes. It also deprives Pacman of an opportunity to co-promote a big fight with HBO and earn more money.
I hope the situation in Manila will stablize soon and Arroyo will recall her state of emergency declaration in due time.
