From fightnews:
Word is Carlos Baldomir will likely defend his WBC welterweight title on the proposed Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga undercard on Saturday, May 6th. One possible opponent could be welterweight Antonio Diaz. Baldomir upset Zab Judah last month for the WBC title in New York City. Diaz has won his last three fights.
Good for Carlos, sounds like he's taking the 2-fight deal with Golden Boy. Gatti and Hatton must be fuming now that it looks like they won't get their shots to take his title. Both of these fights would have been instant millions for Carlos, but especially against Hatton there was a good chance he'd lose.
Gatti and Hatton were both looking to grab cheap glory by beating up on a lightly-regarded opponent. But it looks like Baldomir is genuinely interested in building a career for himself.
i dont want to see the de la hoya mayweather fight simply because i dont think de la can beat him now and mayweather will use a victory over an old oscar as another way to pad his record and avoid real contenders.
i couldnt agree more, oscar fighting his farewell fight against baldomir is lame, imagine if lennox lewis wouldve wanted to fight someone like kirk johnson for his farewell fight??
wait a second here.........

I thought antonio Diaz retired??
I knew it, Oscar is going to beat baldy for his retirement bout so he can go out "on top".
what a joke.

lol,nice call
Well who would you rather have that cheap victory Hatton Mayweather or Oscar? Those two young guys have no buissness fighting the likes of Baldomir,Oscar at the least is taking on mayorga, and is on the way out.

I'd rather he lose to a big fighter than to lose the welterweight crown to another nobody. The division could use the stability of seeing a champ like a Hatton that will lead to all the big fights
good for baldy!, those 2 guys in the ring with him after the fight were asses, baldy will get 2 good fights and hopfully 2 good wins and some good money :)
From what I read on it, Baldy was supposed to take a fight for around $500,000 and if he was to win then get a crack at Oscar for the millions.
De La Hoya/Mayweather has to happen. I think the talk is already starting to build.
This is the way Rafael explains it:
Another offer being considered is a two-fight deal from Golden Boy Promotions that would start with Baldomir earning $500,000 on the May 6 HBO PPV undercard of Oscar De La Hoya's fight with junior middleweight titlist Ricardo Mayorga. Opponents mentioned early in the discussions were Antonio Diaz, Ishe Smith, Craig Weber and Larry Mosley, but all were ruled out for one reason or another -- either they were unavailable or unacceptable by one of the sides.
The second fight of the Golden Boy proposal would call for Baldomir to fight in the fall with one scenario being a $2 million minimum to fight De La Hoya if he and Baldomir each win May 6. However, if De La Hoya opts not to fight Baldomir, Golden Boy Promotions would still guarantee $1.5 million for Baldomir to face another name opponent, possibly Shane Mosley if he defeats Fernando Vargas next week.
To be honest, Oscar has been flaky as hell in recent years. He could change his mind ten times about the issue before he decides whether or not to take this fight. Plus he still has to get past Mayorga.
I can't see the Oscar fight happening. As far as I know he was just one of the proposed opponents. But then again I think DLH/PBF is a no-hoper as well  .

This isn't good news because the two-fight deal would include the Oscar finale for the belt.
I need De La Hoya/Mayweather. Nothing less.
So....
Oscar's on the cover of FN3? That's cool.
