I know that he was on the floor for the count of ten, but could he really have gotten up? To me he didnt look like he was really knocked out, he kept his head up as he went down. I think he was getting a beating and wanted out, possibly. He thinks like his friend Gerald Mclellan, who saw no shame in being knocked out but lots of shame in quitting. When Gerald was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital after the Benn fight, he ripped his oxygen mask off and asked his trainers "I was knocked out cold, right? I was knocked out?" and they replied "No Gerald, you quit". I think Roy was worried he was going to end up like Gerald (he wont visit Gerald until after he's done boxing) and so he went down. The shot didnt appear all that hard, and I feel that Roy wanted people to think he was gone when really he COULD have carried on, he just knew it wasnt his night. Rather than have people say he had no heart because he quit, he waited for a shot to hit him and went down. What does anyone else think?
Roy is one of my favourite ever fighters, I'm not hating on him. I just think his is maybe how it went down.
Against Tarver he did try and get up, and I feel that Nady could maybe have let it go on. If Roy had taken a nine count then got up, I think he could have continued. As he got up at seven, Nady obviously felt that it would have been dangerous letting Roy back out there with only one second's more respite.
Nady didn't stop the fight, he counted Roy out against Tarver. Watch it again. Nady is at 9 and Roy is stumbling along the ropes, clueless as to where he is, walking AWAY from Nady. Definitely a KO. Just like Corrales-Castillo II.

Roy was still not steady on his feet and even wobbled all the way to the ropes. He was in no shape to continue.
Yes, it was insane I must admit. I thought it would be more pro-Tarver since it was close to his hometown. I think all of Pensacola (my hometown) must have drove over to Tampa. It was ridiculously loud for Roy in there when they showed him in his dressing room shadow boxing before the fight.
At least the crowd loved Roy and Roy got some deserved respect.
I know. I was sort of surprised at how insane the crowd was for him. I dvr'd it and watched it when I got back home and you can't really appreciate it from the HBO broadcast but the crowd was just totally berserk cheering for Roy.
I love Roy, though. I got ringside seats for Tarver-Jones3 just because I wanted to see him leave a winner, and thought he would in his last fight. Sad to see that it's apparently not going to be his last fight. He's not only been KO'd in 2 of his last 3, but he's been out on his feet in his last 2 fights. That's a clue he needs to hang them up.
I agree, and I was at the fight as well. My unc reffed it actually.
It was an ok night. At least the crowd loved Roy and Roy got some deserved respect. It would have been a somewhat decent end to a career considering previous fights before Tarver 3, but Roy seems to want to still fight.
He should retire. His career is set...can't really make it any better.
i think he was really knock out. i just watched the fight again and man do i hate seeing that KO because I'm a fan of Roy Jones but if you watch closely at his left leg when Roy is down you can see that it's is sticking up and plus look at the way his left arm goes down man was that a scary night for RJJ fans.
I was in Vegas that weekend, and when I saw the odds were 8-1, I decided to put $100 on Johnson.... just to have some fun watching it. Plus Roy was trying to come back from a KO and I knew Johnson was solid.
I watched it in the Excalibur sportsbook and man did we have a blast. Quite a few people put money on Johnson and when Roy went down at the end the entire casino knew about it. As a matter of fact, we were on our chairs in the 5th I think (?) when Johnson clocked him against the ropes and Roy stumbled forward, almost out for a second. LOL It was a fun night.

i was watching the fight absent-mindedly and i remember rubbing my eyes and then hearing a "THUD" and the crowd started roaring. when i looked, jones was on the mat, not moving and getting counted out.
i didnt see it, i heard it. i think he was out, IMO.
LOL Dude, you need to watch some more boxing. Roy was out, period. He wasn't able to continue against Tarver, either- he fell into the ropes himself after Nady waved it off.
I love Roy as much as anybody, but Glen Johnson knocked him clean out. The punch didn't look devastating, but RJJ didn't try to block or move he just took it. Then the way his head smacked the canvas, and his left hand slowly laying down by his side. Glen really put one him.
Nah man, Roy was out of it for a good while. He might have aggravated things still worse if he had tried to get up so it's better that he didn't. That was a heavy knockdown, on a par with or perhaps even worse than the Tarver stoppage he suffered in the fight before and he tried to get up from that. That was the end of Roy.
the johnson 1 was by far the worst.. i have it and can't even watch it ...plus it came off a ton of good hits johnson put on Jones over the hole fight so i'm sure he was a bit dazed from the start

he would have been right back down ...his legs were gone but maybe he could hold on after that round ..you never know
