Have any of you guys been in a streetfight where your boxing training helped you out? One of my friends told me boxing wouldn't help you in a streetfight because its not the same style so you wouldn't expect the same punches, but check out this fight:

the guy has his guard up and it looks like he deflects the other guys punches then hits him with a left jab. What do you guys think?
My mate won the four nations Boxing tournament at his age group meaning he's the best in the UK and he hasnt lost a streetfight before. He's too quick and has got too much power and precision because of boxing - so its helped him.
A boxer would easily take a street fighters wind away ... fitness is the key too dropping a street fighter.... with a street fighter you wait for him too swing counter get out of there let him swing him self out and the rattle him!
what if you have a street fight with a track star ? thats not always true ...a boxer right off the bat i would take to the ground and try to hurt his arms or even take out a knee
why aren't their any stories of guys losing? AHHA everyone wins by 1 pounch ko in here
lol yeah no spit ...nah i can admit i've lost a fight or 2 ...but i've never been "beaten up" by just 1 person and i learned from what i did wrong...i've never had a fight that i think i could never have won ..but somteimes it just don't workout

I punched a guy when he grabbed me, just to knock him off of me. Then he pulled a gun and I had to wrestle the gun away. Then he called the cops and I went to jail because the other guy was bloodied up. The charges were eventually dropped on grounds of "mutual assault", but you never know what's going to happen in a street fight. Most of these gang-bangers are punks. Either one of us could have been shot while I was taking the gun away. Better to avoid trouble if possible but, if you are going to hit someone, knock them out clean in self-defense with witnesses...
For anyone that says boxing won't help in a streetfight, well you are either uneducated when it comes to fighting, or you are a fucking moron. Boxing is one of the best combat arts in the world. Boxing teaches you to take punches, and nobody punches better than a boxer. It is better to punch than kick in a street fight for the fact it is easier to slip and fall when kicking.
I think Muay Thai training might be better in a street fight because of the use of elbows and knees. It would be better to use elbows and knees because it is so easy to break your hand without protection.
If it is a one on one fight, the most effective form of street fighting would be some kind of grappling, namely Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu made famous by Royce Gracie in the UFC. It is quite easy for a decent grappler to make short work of even the best of boxers in a one on one streetfight due to the fact a decent grappler can easily take the fight to the ground, where the boxer is defensless. This has been proven time and time again.
One problem with a streetfight and just using your hands is if the other guy is a lot bigger and stronger it can be dangerous to trade blows with him. It is much harder for a little guy to bang with a bigger guy, whereas if the little guy was a better grappler he could more easily choke out his bigger opponent.
This is why to be a Complete fighter, one should train in the striking and the grappling arts, because you never know what is going to happen in a streetfight.
Saying this, I reiterate that boxing is one of the top combat arts and is highly effective in a streetfight. Krav Maga is good as well, as they train for street situations and teach some devastating techniques.
I gotta say boxing does help alot. I got into a talking match with a guy one time, and I'd started boxing several months before. Then the guy started swinging on me out of no where and hit me with some pretty good shots. I'm a better wrestler then I am a boxer, and I took the guy down and started trying to punch him on the ground, but I got pulled off. Later, he came to me again wanting to fight some more, and I hit him in the chin and knocked him down. I walked away and he was still lying there. I'm pretty damn sure the boxing experience helped me take his shots and lay him out, but I do try to avoid those situations more since.
got into a fight once, Kid threw crazy haymakers, i just leanin, when i saw me opening, hit him with a cross, he never saw it coming, fell down, hit his head, and went unconcious for 15 minutes...scariest 15 minutes of MY life. I could have went to jail for murder, then the kid just snapped out of it...since then i avoid all fights unless in the ring, or i feel im seriously threatened. Kid are dumb, and have big ego's. Is it worth it? yeah sure, they'll call u a p*ssy and such, but in my mind, it shows a lot more charecter to walk away from a fight you kno you'll win then to start one you know you'll win
most street fighters only have 1 or 2 good punches most will only use a hook or overhand .... yes it will help but it does not always lead to a automatic win ...
Thats cool, I always thought having boxing training gave you experience on how to throw a punch. About a week before I started boxing, I got in a fight with a "gangster" who said he was going to knock me out in a few seconds. A crowd of about 30-40 people showed up after school, and I had been saying I don't wanna fight you for a while (he's a big dude, and everyone kind of knows him to be a good fighter). He ran at me and through a huge right hook, and I ducked under him and came back with a left jab right to the face and literally knocked him out. It inspired me to box for some strange reason.
Anyways, I doubt it, but do you think that your boxing guard can stop their wild haymakers?

this is how you should train for a streetfight.
Boxing is definitely an advantage as well though in a streetfight as most people like to punch, and who punches better than a boxer? nobody.
i have to say that kid was patient and has a helluva left hook.
any kind of fighting experience is going to help you in a streetfight.the majority of people in the world don't have any fight training.
the only thing is, a lot of people who do like to fight do have some kind of training, that or they've fought their whole lives and like to mix it up.

** Stay out of streetfights and take care listening to what "friends" tell you and you probably wont have any worries. No street fight is the same and not all "friends" are friends.
from what ive seen and experienced a lot of people out there are so wild with their punches that any trained boxer would easily see the haymakers they throw coming. Also a lot of times people try to wrestle you to the ground so if you can stay on your feet and throw some short punches on the inside you can do considerable damage. Plus boxers know how to throw quicker cleaner punches and also know how to distribute their power better. Ive seen a couple of friends of mine who were trained boxers get into fights and just destroy people, so i say boxing is great for street fighting if you're trained right.
