There was a left hook that Floyd landed against a bum, that was so fast you couldn't even see it, in fact you have to slow it down some to actually see this punch clearly.
I think Ali threw faster punches on average but Patterson throwing his fastest, when he saw the opponent was hurt and went for the kill and was in prime condition, was the quickest heavyweight I've ever seen on film.
Bruce Lee was a fan of Ali
how does Bruce Lee's speed compare to Ali's etc?
Bruce actually studied Ali's and Dempsey's films while compiling notes on the mechanics of fighting, particularly their footwork. In fact he was such a speed freak, that the majority of his training was dedicated to being as fast as humanly possible without wasting too much energy. He took it to another level.
So, Bruce was a huge fan of boxing. He considered boxing skills to be ideal
when fighting since, to him, boxing applied a much more efficient use of the hands than other fighting arts.
I think Lee was faster than Ali, since he was also always in top condition. If you watch his films, there weren't any camera tricks used.
In fact, he actually had to slow down his moves for the camera because his strikes would appear only as a blur on the screen. :boxing:
Ali wasn't the fastest puncher, Floyd Patterson was, in the heavyweight div. Henry Cooper who fought both, said that he could always see Ali's punches coming, but Patterson's were so fast that he could feel them but not see them. Ali's "phantom" punch was a real punch, it wasn't particularly fast, being really an short, arm-punch, thrown when Liston was moving in with his own jeft jab. Because of the position, on Liston's left side, with the camera shot from the right, it was hard to see by camera, which gave people the idea that Liston had taken a "dive" (still very possible) with NO punch thrown, and of course Ali played up to the idea of HIS "phantom" punch being Soooofast that it was invisible. However, Patterson was faster, no doubt about it.
good post, dont let butterfly see it...:boxing:

I am not calling you a liar, maybe you are really quick with the left and believe you have that kind of speed (nothing wrong with having a strong belief in oneself) but I'd have to see video evidence to prove you have what would be some of the fastest hands of all time.
those r some big words,If i make accusations I gotta show some video or ppl will think im a liar.but u never know maybe he's that fast,u dont have to be part alien to have it.

LMFAO!!! I bet you wont ever see that video.
Going out on a limb here...
Who had the fastest punch in history?
That's tough to say. You'd probably have to dig up some really old boxing films or ask some boxing historians. You'll most likely get different opins.
In general, I'd have to say the fastest punch is the one the opponent can't see. The sucker punch maybe? The punches thrown with economy of motion, like Ali's. And most effecient, i.e.: closest to the opponent. :thinkerg:

Come on, there's no way your left hand is anything close to as good or as fast as Curry's is in that video.
i promise u its close. but i dont fight right handed no more.. the next step afer u learn that type of hook is to learn how to make it a left cross to make you a more complete fighter .. i remeber i tought it was hard to get the hook like that tho alot of pains cuz its unatural but then u get used to ..and then u think you finally done your style and your knees are fuckin tight everymorning and u can barely get up. hopefully im almost done..
When I Figh Righ Handed My Left Is Like That. BUT AFTER MONTH OF TRAINING YOU JOINTS FUCKIN KILL FROM GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN KNEES ESPECIALLY
