it's nice to see that the world loves this sport, from england to the islands of the Pacific, the boxing world is growing but in the US its dieing. We here on this site and others are the hard core fans and the networks and the promoters are failing. Oh to be born in the 20's to see boxings hayday. I'm already dirt poor I can't even make rent with out help and I pirate my internet and the computer was a gift and you know what I rather be poor than live without this sport. Every new person I meet I ask if they are a fight fan most say no a very few say yes and we talk for hours. This sport to many is larger than life it crosses over into the realm of faith or it used to. Now boxing is a cult and its fans follow suit. I want my sport my passion my faith back. I want MSG to be hollowed ground once more, I want When people think of "the championship or or champion" to think of boxing first and all sports second. Its in my blood its part of who I am and part of me is fading away
Boxing is the best sport!!!! So deep, so entertaining to watch, and the boxers are just insane and deserve MUCH respect fo what they do. The fuckin b-ball playes, baseball playas earnin millions doin eazy shyt. I do what they do when I was a lil boi. UNDESERVING turds!
I know! Then they complain about how they injured their arm swinging at a baseball, or hurt their knees sliding to base. Boxers don't make nearly as much as those guys, but they continue through broken hands, busted jaws, and every other obstacle they have to face. Baseball players don't have to get punched in the face 200 times a night. They don't have angry fans boo at them and throw beer bottles when they win a fight. Look at the cut Vitali Klitschko had in his fight with Lennox Lewis. If a baseball player got injured like that he would sue or demand an extra $20 million.
I'm not a sporting fan at all aside from boxing. I didn't even watch the Superbowl. To be honest, I couldn't name a single active football player besides Tom Brady (because he is such a huge name and has transcended his sport). Boxing is the only sport I care about, with the sole exception of MMA to a much, much lesser degree.
In fact, boxing and punk music (which is already dead) are the only things I'm really passionate about anymore. Boxing for me comes before girls, school, friends, food, anything. I'll defend that sport for as long as I can reason because it's something I've found that I connect with at a primal level.
Boxing grabs me, forces me to love it, because it's real. Boxing is competition stripped down to the barest essentials: gloves, wraps, a ring, and a referee to enforce rules (to save it from barbarism). In contrast, all the team and ball sports seem contrived, phony. More than that though, boxing is a theatre of life. I'd venture to say that boxing is more real than modern life itself. It's far closer to nature at least than contemporary western society, where the weak and pampered rule over the strong-backed, honest working class.
Boxing is one of the last surviving truths I encounter on a daily basis, and it remains that way in spite of all of the corruption and lies that have become an inherent part of it. Watching boxing reminds me of the natural way of this place, the human condition, and the animal in us that we can only turn our backs on but never leave more than a few steps behind.
Hey, I know how you all feel. I've gotten the same looks when I've asked people if they follow the sport. It's a joke to them. A barbaric, idiotic sport.
The loss of boxing would have hardly any effect on the lives on my friends save for one thing: the day boxing dies is the day I kiss it all goodbye and end my time in this world.
son what you just said is exactly what this post is about the Culture of Boxing and what it means to people great post
i know the answer to the problems of boxing. many of us, heck, most of us do. we just need someone very rich, mark cuban? someone rich to fix it for us.
the answer is simple. get rid of promoters and sanctioning bodies. get one company to control them all. an MLB or PGA or NBA of boxing. that is what we need. this would eliminate need for a national commission as well. the boxing organization would schedule all matches, set realistic rankings, not collect sanctioning fees from fighters. it would set and follow strict medical guidelines. anybody in the organization would be a world recognized fighter. anybody not in it would be a fringe fighter. they could even perhaps have a minor leagues for up and coming fighters or journeyman fighters to compete.
a single boxing organization would do all the marketing, not promoters. this would eliminate any need for promoters and sanctioning bodies immediately.
thats how i would fix it
Amen to all who have voiced their love for this sport. If you think about it, there is no purer competition. It's you, and your wits, heart, balls, and determination against the man across the ring. There are no teamates to hide your shortcomings when the bell rings. If you didn't train hard enough, or your mind ain't on the match, your going to get your lunch handed to you. Boxing has got bashed a lot in the past years (deservedly so), but the ESSENCE of this sweet science will never die. So to all the haters of boxing, Larry Holmes jab, Hearns over hand right, Frazier left hook on your chins...
Fraziers hook, that might leave a mark. :)
But no the sport isnt dieing. It's just not as good as it could be.
As a former Football Player and big prospect, I can say....Boxing is 50 times harder to master and way more brutel. And im lovin it!

And if you notice, ever since Mike Tyson retired.....that's how it's been. If only he hadnt done all that stupid stuff and other things. I blame his trainer for his last lost. Ahead on the scorecards and winning the fight, he tells him to quite.
If he had beat Danny Williams and hadnt blown out his knee, we would have probly seen Tyson vs. Lewis II.....

that's beautiful, Kid...boxing is the greatest sport there will ever be because there's no teams to hide behind, just two guys in the ring and no excuses, the better man wins, we get to see what a fighter is really made of when he/she steps inside dat ring
I'm in your boat.

Boxing is too currupt. Too much money involed. Its a cess pool, and the way its handled is wreakless. People in boxing just dont care, they are killing it. Fans can only bring it back, by standing up.
Your the problem. The last thing we need is another guy pointing out every last problem with boxing... Saying too much money is involed is as far off as it gets. Only at the VERY top of boxing is their money to be made. Some pro boxers still work jobs to make ends meet. those are the real boxers.
Real fight fans do stand up for boxing u idiot, thats what this thread is about. Its kills some of us its not working and boxing still gets swept under the rug. The only thing boxing has left is hardcore fans to keep it going, if not who else would care what happend to the sport?
i dont think weights has anything to do with boxing not being popular. the common casual fan doesnt know the difference anyhow. they know maybe five weight classes. i am fine if the weight classes remain intact how they are now.

Boxing is the greatest! It's the one sport that I feel I want to carry on through my life, as it makes me physicaly and mentally fit. If you tell someone you box, you usually get a look of admiration and respect.
Boxing is slowly working it's way back up in Britian. Hatton and Khan are a good promotion of the sport here and thankfully I have a few mates who are die hard boxing fans! It's rewarding to meet and talk to someone who understands and is passionate about the sport. Footballers are lazy greedy bastards who barely break out into a sweat compared to our guys in the ring!
i will respect any boxer 100x more than any football player, basketball player, hockey player, or any other athlete in the world. too bad the rest of this goddamn country doesnt feel the same way. if you say a boxer who isnt named "evander holyfield, george foreman, joe louis, muhammad ali, mike tyson, or (much to my dismay) sugar ray leonard", and people dont know who the fuck you're talking about.
i tell my friends to "watch one arturo gatti fight and your view of boxing will completely change". they dont care. my dad couldnt even stay awake during the first pacquiao/morales fight.
hardly anybody cares about boxing or boxers. im getting tired of defending this damn sport. a sport full of businessmen, money-grubbers, trash talkers, pussies, fight dodgers, softies, huge upsets, major controversies, fixed fights, boring fights, padded records, paper champions, inactivity, politics, and the only incentive to win is money.
no wonder people dont care about boxing.
I have friends that wont take the time to watch a fight unless its a mike tyson knock out... these fucking bums dont do shit all day but smoke pot..i really need to make some new boxing friends lol
