WBO welterweight champ Antonio Margarito is going into his February 18 title defense an angry man, not so much at his challenger, Manuel "Shotgun" Gomez, but at recent comments made by Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. that the Tijuana native believes is dismissive of him and his ring accomplishments.
"I'm disappointed that Oscar would not even mention my name ," said Margarito. "Real boxing fans know that I'm the best fighter at welterweight and they know that I'm a more exciting fighter than both Mayweather and Wright. No disrespect to both of those boxers, but if Oscar wants to end his career with a bang and give fight fans a really good show in his last fight, then he should fight me instead of Mayweather or Wright.
"Oscar, if you're not sure of who's the best fighter out there, my managers will be happy to buy you a front-row ticket to my Feb. 18 fight and you'll see for yourself. Don't think for a second that what happened to Judah against Baldomir is going to happen to me with Gomez. 'Shotgun' is a dangerous fighter but I come prepared and ready to battle 12 rounds for every opponent. I'll be ready for Gomez and I'll be ready to sign a contract to fight you immediately after the fight.
"Come on Oscar, let's get it on for all the Mexican fight fans. Let's do it for the Mexican fans that became yours when you beat Julio Cesar Chavez. You were a popular fighter before you fought Chavez, but not with all of the Mexican fans. Chavez gave you the opportunity to fight a legend and to make your name. Now I'm asking you, with all due respect, to give me a shot. I feel I've earned the opportunity and I'm more than willing to step up to 154 pounds to get it."
Margarito, who sports a 32-4 (23) record and five defenses of his title, was also angered by recent comments attributed to Mayweather regarding a possible showdown between the two at 147 pounds. "Floyd, everybody who follows boxing knows who I am, I'm the guy you are scared to fight," he said. "And the only person who doesn't want to see us fight is you."

I smell the makings of a potential fight of the year , if this was ever to go down.

Antonio Margarito deserves a big fight. He is such a punching machine that most welterweights are afraid of the guy. In my eyes, he is the best 147 in the world, and I have said that before Judah's loss to Baldomir.
Fact is, Margarito is a good fighter with a couple good wins, and it doesn't take much to be the best at 147. Margarito is the best at 147 until someone beats him. Baldomir would be crushed by Tony.
Who else is there to fight at 147 if Floyd ducks Tony? No one of note.
and i still think cintron can get back in the picture 2, the best thing about all this is that their all entertaining boxers and they allways come for the kill! they dont play cant and mouse their all DOGS!
if you seen the fights mayweather vs corrales and gatti both of them have good power but for some reason they tried to box him they have to fight mayweather like castillo, chavez and even hernandez. Yes mayweather beat them all but he had the most trouble with these 3, and i think margarito is bigger then these 3 and would fight mayweather the same way.
pbf could try to run all night but im sure that when margarito drops one bomb to that? chin im sure floyd will taste the canvas.
pbf has excellent stamina and can "run" all night if he would like to i prefer to call it defense he ducks and slips punches and counters yes floyd moves and uses the ring he is not a standstill target but i would not call his style running ....as far a maragrito landing a bomb on floyd all i have to say is good luck pbf is one of the smartest fighters in boxing he knows that the only adavantage maragarito has is his power and i gurantee antonio won't get a chance to use it ..floyd by ud..
/rant
LOL What acomplishments in the ring is Margarito talking about he hasnt fought anyone but an untested up and comer for christ sakes. Just shut up Antonio and for the record Oscar would beat your ass, Floyd would beat your ass, Carlos Baldozar would probably beat your ass, Hell I'll even go out on a limb here and say Zab "Super glass Jaw" Judah would beat your ass.
/end rant
I'd actually pick Margarito by UD over Mayweather. I think Margarito is like a bigger Castillo, and Mayweather can't run all night. Margarito can fight all night.
