Anyone else remember that after the Gatti fight, in a dizzy fit of kindness and goodwill, Floyd Mayweather declared that Gatti "could be world champion again"?
It's kind of funny that if the Gatti-Baldomir fight goes through that this claim could actually come true. Bet Floyd never saw that one coming  .
Gatti is simply being matched up against a handpicked selection of opponents that allow him to fight well. I'm sorry but stuff like that just doesn't wash with me especially when he hasn't fought a "real" fight since Oscar. He's fought a bunch of featherdusters in his claim to the "titles".
Funny thing is, imagine what the fight would of been like if the Damgaard had ANY power. He still took a bunch of shots to the face.
Oh yeah, I'm not trying to say that Gatti is top 10 p4p-worthy or anything. The point of my thread was more to point out the absurdity of the situation.
Gatti's handlers treat him carefully, but of course they're going to do that, given his age and his fighting style. Having said that he a hugely popular fighter so it's natural that his accomplishments will be inflated.
And this Baldomir situation is a stroke of unexpected luck. Suddenly world titles are available against a mediocre opponent because the former champ got lazy.
Yeah he looked like Floyd against him. Meticulously picking his shots against Damgaard.
Which leads me to think: how in the FUCK was Damgaard undefeated?
The same way every other second-rate European "contender" is undefeated :D .

Yeah, I think Floyd has some kind of victim complex which is why he's always so damn defensive. But when he snaps out of that he's not nearly so bad.
Gatti was sloppy at times but out on a good show. Couldn't have done any better to erase the ugly loss to Floyd.
Then it seemed more like kind words to make up for the stuff Floyd said before the fight, like Gatti looking Japanese with all his plastic surgery.
But, I couldn't be more proud for Gatti. He should retire on a high note after TKOing Baldomir.

Slick matchmaking & maneuvering on the part of Team Gatti.
To me, that's been as much a notable part of his career as has been his style & guts.
I would rather watch guys like Pacquiao & Corrales raising hell with the best in the sport, than see Gatti light things up against mediocrities. No offense, but Damgaard was pretty awful.
Yeah, no shit he'll become champion. You really think HBO's money man wasn't going to win his "comeback" fight? HBO's just recycling this guy like nobody's business.
But HBO couldn't have orchestrated the Baldomir win, which sets Gatti up for a chance at the title.

True.......He is probably a little pissed at Zab.Hopefully he will take it out on him when they step into the ring....I wanted Judah before but I can't forgive him after the Baldomir fight.
No kidding, Zab really ruined things for everybody.
Consider this scenario: Gatti beats Baldomir, which gives him the Ring title. Then Floyd beats Zab, giving him 2/3 alphabet belts (as far as I know) and sets him up as the #1 contender.
So what happens then? No way does Gatti-Mayweather 2 happen again. Not that the Ring belt is that important, but it does help provide a bit of stability in the sport, and this situation will really screw things up for them at welter.
Yeah the welterweight division is about as open as it's ever been in the past. I find it compelling......not the talent pool at 147 because its extemely shallow....but the idea anyone can become champion at that weight.
