By G. Leon
Boxingtalk.com has been informed that 130 pound kingpin Marco Antonio Barrera will be moving up to lightweight to challenge IBF champion Jesus "El Matador" Chavez on March 25. The bout will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and a press conference is expected to take place in Los Angeles on Thursday. No official word on the televised co-feature as of yet, but we've been hearing rumblings that WBO 130 pound champion Jorge Barrios-Janos Nagy is a likely candidate to land the spot. More to follow. Damn, this fight has me nervous. I believe Barrera can win, but he will need to fight a great fight. Chavez is no joke, he gave Morales a good fight(Hurt Morales bad with a single shot) until he hurt his shoulder. I also believe that Chavez has looked stronger and more focused since his loss with Morales. Chavez also battled Hernandez in a test of chins and endurance.
Barrera is going to fight at 135? damn guy has problems getting enough weight for 130.
If Barrera can beat Chavez in convincing fashion, then I would give him better odds to win in a rematch with Pac.
For the record, I would not bet against Pac.
I was thinking the exact same thing. That's a really ballsy move. Say what you want about not taking the Pac fight, but Chavez just damaged a man so much he died. That takes a lot of guts to get into the ring with him, especially being his next opponent.
Or maybe he figures Chavez will be distraught, and thus unable to fight at his highest level, due to what happened in his most recent fight?
It's a gamble either way. Mancini killed Kim, but that did not kill his killer instincts. Dangerous fight for anyone, let alone a smaller boxer like MAB.
This is a fight to look forward too, but i was looking forward to a fight with Manny. I dont even care if its 4 months from now, its a fight that has been way overdue.
You are gutsy when you are the first fighter to face Chávez after what happened in the LJ fight.

Actually I will take Barrera to win a close, close fight. Chavez doesn't have the greatest power around. Mad props to Barrera for taking this fight though. Almost as dangerous as a Pacquiao fight if you ask me.
how can you not have respect he is taking on a guy who is one of the best at 135. thats just as good of a fight as fighting pacman. chavez has more power than pacman and you dont know he might take him on next
I think the problem is just that so many people don't realize how much of a threat he is, or even who he is if you can believe it. He's an amazing opponent for Barrera to take on, so much credit due to him.
He should be fighting Pac, guess what he's still don't want any part of Pac. I have not respect for Barrera.

wow, you really need to pace yourself here, the Pac fight was 3 days ago and this fight between Barrera and Chavez has been in the works for a long time now...
glad to see this fight with Chavez is still going through though, should be a great fight. This should close the mouths of, at least, the knowledgable Barrera haters.
This is how i see it going! barrera wins this fight gets the belt at 135 and instead of fighting pacman at 130 for the titles he will do some shady move and make pacman go up to 135 which is too heavy for pacman so he has a chance to win....and if pacman team doesnt accept oscar and barrera will say we offered you teh fight so why you ducking marco...to make it look as if pacman is scared.
Dude you are the same guy who said, in the Barrera vs. Pacman poll, that Manny had, and I quote, a "size advantage" over MAB at 130. So you're telling me that if they both went up to 135, that suddenly the one with the edge would be Barrera? Do you even realize the contradiction, which by the way happened in a 5 minute span?

Maybe he will fight Pac next after this dude...
