Who were the first two fighters to earn a purse of at least one million dolars in a fight (one fight...two millionares)? The answer to this question was the Liston/Patterson rematch in 1963, in which both fighters recieved a reported purse of a little over 1.4 million dollars.

Dempsey & Tunney....#2. I figured this fight would draw at least one guess, but it happened quite a few years later than that, Jabs. Tunney JUST about hit the million dollar mark for that fight, though, as his purse was reportedly $990,445...Dempsey's was quite a bit less than that, cause he was the challenger (they might've had that 40/20 split even back in them days).

The Fantasy Fights in Big Book were the best thing about them. They really, really went into detail...from setting the stage upto the breakdown of the fight itself. Yeah, they did an excellant job on those things, that's for sure. Another part of what those magazines at the time offered, was Boxing Illustrated's divisional rankings that rated the top 50 fighters in each division (or maybe it was top 100?...been too long, but they were very indepth). I think that was more from they're mid/late 70's issues, but I thought that was pretty cool, cause I'd never hear about a bunch of those guys unless I saw them included in those extended rankings.

Ah, I would never have guessed that one. Save a couple, all my boxing mags from the 80's are long gone and almost forgotten. Too bad too, cause I miss those friggin' things sometimes, like those fantasy fights they'd put on in the Big Book of Boxing...I thought those were cool when I was younger! Now....there's so much ready info on the web. Those Magazines, even though they were always around two months behind, were your main source for boxing info. yea but also.. Barkley only had a few fights at the time. It was probably a 6 or 8 round fight with him and Robbie. Robbie also stopped unbeaten Jlhn Collins in 1 and he beat Roberto Duran before Duran came back and beat Barkley for the title. yeah, Barkley was thrown in over his head, against Simms....though he showed a lot. Robbie looked devastating against Collins. Too bad Robbie couldn't beat Czyz, though he was giving him a good scrap until Czyz floored him.

As far as Robbie Sims, Robbie was a world clas middleweight when he was at his very best Robbie was excellent. His fights with Iran Barkley & Murray Sutherland were classics.

I remember his name, because as a 12-14 year old who loved Larry Holmes, I thought the guy was a damn genius ! That wasn't him, was it?
