How shot is Roy? Do you think he has enough left to beat Hopkins? With one of my favorite boxers getting embaressed last night, I am hoping Roy can atleast win in March. What do you guys think? Am I in for another dissapointment?
Roy was in great shape in his last fight, he's still got his quickness, speed and reflexes. As others have mentioned though he definitely was gun shy, and mentally he doesn't have anywhere near the confidence he once had.
That said, Hopkins these days don't have the power punch, and certainly not the work rate. It should still be an intersting fight, how well can Hopkins do fighting at 175 for the 1st time in over 15 years, how would his 40 year old body handle that. Will Roy let his hands go?, knowing Hopkins doesn't have the same punch as a Tarver.
I'll probably be rooting for Hopkins, and I give him the slight edge as well.
Roy had 11.5% body fat in his first fight with Tarver and was fighting half-dead and he still won 7 rounds to 5 in my opinion (there's no way Tarver won that fight), and in the second fight Roy trimmed himself down to 6% body fat (way better shape) and he didn't have the agony of a toothace and having to starve himself for weeks to make weight. If Tarver didn't land a lucky punch we wouldn't even be talking about Tarver right now because he would be out of the picture. That said, I thought Roy looked still very good last fight (in terms of quickness, strength) but he obviously is a gunshy fighter. If he can relax in the ring he should beat hopkins rather easily. I still don't think hes as shot as everyone thinks.
i don't either. i do think his competition has gotten harder.

I wonder why no one ever gives Jones credit for have the year 2003 that he had? He went to heavyweight and beat title holder, then he went back down and won his light heavyweight title back. Thats very impressive in my opinion.
Roy put himself in a situation vs Tarver that allowed his chin to get tapped. Losing all that weight has permanently affected him. As a result of that muscle loss and subsequent KO, Roy's chin and stamina are not what they used to be. Roy is, at best, 70% of what he used to be.
That is enough to narrowly beat Hopkins in my opinion.
But Roy better train as hard as Hopkins will...you know what I mean?
hmm

Arafat feels that Roy Jones can't get up to fight anymore.
Arafat feels both fighters are past their best, but expects Hopkins to make the same mistakes he's made in all of his losses.
LMAO!!! Did Arafat see that Roy actually looked like he still had some of that old speed and agility in the third Tarver fight? :D

Roy is faded, but so is Hopkins. He's turning 41 this month.
That gives Jones an additional advantage along with the size.
Hopkins doesn't carry a punch to catch Jones, and no way can he muster the workrate Glenn Johnson used to beat Roy.
In short, this has a points win for Jones written all over it.
I agree.
I'm picking RJJ by lackluster decision.

The real question is, should anyone care enough to be watching it with both fighters coming off losses?
Can you see why a big Roy fan would still want to watch it though? I guess it really depends on who you a fan of. I can see why a boxing fan, who isn't a big Roy fan could careless.
Dear god lets hope,I am quite sure Hopkins will go but I am still unsure what Roys motives may be if he wins.
Yeah, you know what I realize more and more about Roy? HE REALLY MUST LOVE TO BOX! Everyone always said he never had any passion for boxing, but he keeps on fighting. I highly doubt he needs the money, Roy is financially set I think. But he needs to stop because he may get hurt if he doesn't. Fighters have a hard time leaving the spotlight.

unfortunately roy's best days are waaay behind him..i mean the roy at 168 never even compared to the roy at 175...let alone the roy of today.
i remember when he used to fire off combinations so fast his opponents would turtle up because they couldn't counter...now he can't even consistently pot shot one shot at a time. it's sad, but life goes on. there wil be other boxers...
I am with you on that, I think Roy should retire after Hopkins. And Hopkins should retire too, it should be a farewell fight for both.

Hopkins has never been at the weight..Roy has always been faster, stronger and slicker then Hopkins, and plus he didnt look bad the first 6 rounds of Tarver/Roy 3 (i knwo he wasnt throwing but he was moving well etc) so i think you may ahve a good chance at seeing him win..thats the good news..the bad is who recently he has been stating he may fight after..i think he said woods and other LHW if he wins. Cant say my source cuz its another boxing website forum and last tiem i posted somethiing like that it got deleted and i got punished. :o ... :D

I think either way alot of people are in for a big letdown....it should be a even fight for the most part and I personally think Roy will be more agressive than we have seen him in a while because he does not fear Hopkins like he did Tarver. We will see I guess if I had to bet $$ I would say Hopkins by UD because he still looks fresh even in close defeat against a very young, strong fighter. :boxing:
