how do you rate him ? he had a long streak as one if not the best lite heavyweights around . he was never KO'd until that amazing shot from roy jones when he was past his prime . fought most if not all of the best fighters in the division . so what do you think is he hall of fame ...was he so so ...good but not great... what
He's one of those guys that was a long term champ in an era were there were 4 different champs. Most of his wins were against mandatory challengers and he lost 3 big fights to roy, dm and hearns. His major win is against maske, his other wins were against good fighters, not great ones.
Guys like matthew saad muhammad and dwight muhammad qawi will be considered as better fighters cuz they were successfull champs in an era were there was only 2 champs, not 4. So, if saad or qawi were to have fought when the ibf or wbo existed, you can basically double thier amount of title defences cuz they would have fought easier opponents.
what did you think of virgil hill
Virgil was a poor man's Ali. Great Jab, ring movement, not a lot of pizzazz in the charisma department, little pop, and no big bears to bait. Virgil's in the HOF, though the shame is he'll be better known for providing Roy with one of his few highlights. Virgil is also the answer to the trivia question of why Roy never held the lineal LH title. Interesting guy who made the most of what he got, and a damn fine amateur and Olympian.
i think hes only better than the average fighter. he won a few titles, had an iron chin, lost the titles, and now hes like evander holyfield who refuses to retire.
Virgil Hill was the American version of Sven Ottke or Joe Calzaghe-more like Ottke because Joe is far to exciting to watch where as Virgil was not.
Uhm, no, he wasn't. He fought Rufino Angulo in France for the LH Title, Aundrey Nelson in Australia for the title, Fabrice Tiozzo twice in France each time for a major title, Drake Thadzi in England for the title, Henry Maske and Dariusz Michalczewski in Germany for the major belts and Jean Marc Mormeck in France and South Africa for the Cruiserweight title.
When did Ottke and Calzaghe move outa their country to achieve sth.?
virgil was a good champion although boring to watch, i think he deserves respect hes a long time LH champ and did step up to cruiser and win a title there too, maybe not HOF material but a very good fighter
I think butterfingers was overrated.Snickers KO'd him with one punch!
I love those Snickers crunch new thingys......best fucking candy bar I have ver had........Butterfingers KO regular Snickers tho.
Hmm...Hill has several pretty good wins. Del Valle, Tiozzo (twice), Maske, Czyz...He annhilated Tiozzo in his hometown who was 42-1 at the time, and got a decision over highly regarded 30-0 Henry Maske IN Germany.
Hill lost a debatable decision to Dariusz M. and was stopped on one shot by Roy Jones. He also lost to Thomas Hearns in 1991 mainly out of inexperience. He was very old when he lost to Mormeck, and even then Mormeck barely beat him in the rematch. Hill is obviously a hall of famer.
Maske was an old man when he fought Hill. And Virgil beat him via SD in a fight that could've gone both ways. Henry had announced retirement before the fight and just was past his prime, didn't have the same speed and it showed throughout the whole fight.
And how the fuck was his loss to Dariusz controversial. Have you seen the fight? Though 110-118 was way off the other scores were quite reasonable.
You're not trying to boost Hills record in order to make your boy Roy look better, huh? ;)
hmm

I dunno whether he's overrated or not, but he'll make the hall of fame. Don't forget, he knocked out Fabrice Tiozzo after the loss to Jones for a cruiser belt. Old men aren't supposed to do that kinda thing. When they do, they get into Canastota.
