WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev will defend his title for the first time in Germany. "We plan his first defense for April", says Sauerland managing director Chris Meyer. "At the moment, we can name no exact date, but the talks with our TV partners ARD and HBO are running. Promoter Don King wants Valuev to fight in the USA as King Kong, but we (Sauerland-Event) are the promoter of Nikolai - not Don King. I believe it is a public relations ploy of Don King." Valuev (324.1 lb., 44-0, 31 KOs) also does not see himself fighting in the USA. "Germany is my second homeland, but the most important country for my career," says the seven-foot champion. "I want to fight in Germany. If it goes later to America, why not? I would climb the Empire State Building like King Kong, but only up to the panorama floor."
I hope Valuev takes his boxing career more seriously and doesn't go along with the King Kong gimmick. If he wants to be considered a serious champion he should act like one.
Yeah Germany is important for his career alright....I have not seen either fight but from what I have read from people here and other articles he could easily have lost his last two fights had they not been scored in crooked ass germany.Boxing should be banned from Germany since Ottkes great career....
No, Germany is the center for boxing in Europe now.

This is some funny shit, you have to admit. I still think Valuev should fight here though. Many people would want to see this giant with or without the king kong nametag.

Interesting! They want him to change his name to King Kong? I think King Kong is not a very good name.

Here we go, no wonder a lot of fighters end up suing their promoters. While King and Sauerland will be fighting each other, Valuev will be fighting once a year just like most of current champions.
