Roy Jones was a fraud...Pernell was the best

IMO.... Pernell Whitaker is indeed a greater fighter than Roy Jones. But, I don't understand why you (thread creator) feel the need to present it in this fashion. Why slam Jones in order to praise Whitaker ? These two weren't rivals....except as lb4lbers, & even that was for a short time....as Whitaker was slowing down as Jones was heating up. In fact, I think the majority of boxing people would rate Whitaker higher than Jones.....so you can't even have sour grapes in that area.

You seem to have forgotten that when Roy Jones beat Toney, TONEY was on top of the pound for pound list, not Pernell. As far as Toney being undertrained, Jones can't be blamed for that. He did his job and made an unprepared dude look terrible. And if Hopkins was "not in no way" the fighter who beat Tito, you have to say the same for Jones. If one was young and immature, the other was. Hopkins was older and had more professional fights. Finally, who the hell is Mike McClennan? Are you trying to talk about Mike McCallum? That guy who knocked Donald Curry out? "relatiyt?" What's that mean? Have you ever seen the Del Valle fight? You seem ill-informed. You're a silly fucker. Roy Jones dont deserve to be mentioned alongside Pernell...you wouldnt see Pernell get almost KTFO by a bum like Lou Del Valle!!! Thanks, I like you too.:D Whos OP? :confused: Original poster. I guess. Anyway, i thought he made a fair point. Jones didnt fight the quality opposition as did Whitaker. (at least from wat i know) Jones was brilliant to watch. Most of the time. Whitaker, IMO was a brilliant defensive fighter, and i also love watching his fights. So im neutral.

He said he ALMOST got ko'd. Credit to Roy though, he did dominate the rest of that fight. But also credit to De Valle for knocking Roy down. I wouldn't say however, he ALMOST GOT KO'D. Roy did get right up and didn't seem to hurt.

He didn't lose to De Valle. He got knocked down. He said he ALMOST got ko'd. I personally think Sweet Pea was great. But he wasnt much of a puncher. And by that i dont mean his power, more his ability and skill with punches. Great jab, amazing movment and reflexes. Jones was an incredibly skilled puncher. His shots were excellent. And as far as opposition, Jones didnt fight anyone compared with Whitaker.
