I hate him because he's a smartass, and he never conditions himself and it sickens me when fighters don't condition themselves properly.
Bullshit, and non sense.
Conditioning isn't physical appearnce.
At a career high 235lb last October, Toney threw an average of 80 punches per round, 100 per over the championship rounds in his fight with Guinn.
That's conditioning.
If looking like Michael Grant had anything to do with boxing, he'd have been a great fighter.
You're letting appearences fool you.
And for the record, I don't deny his skills, I think he's a very talented Heavyweight fighter, sad for the division that a fat Middleweight can be one of the top dogs, but none the less. Good Heavyweight fighter, very talented in-fighter. Sharp defensive skills, Granite chin. Tough guy to beat.
some people might hate his personality but there is no denying toney's skills, hes a future HOF'er gotta respect the man for his skills rather than the way he acts...
Bottom Line people don't like Toney for the same reason people don't like Floyd Mayweather because he is confident and very outspoken about his skills thats all
I talk to alot of trainers white and black and all the white trainers i talk to seem to always mention that Floyd Mayweather has alot of skills and is masterful but they always mention his attitude and personality right after giving him props in every sport i've watched or taken part in people hate a cocky confident outspoken black male
You cannot deny the skill level of James Toney i'm with DiegoFuego on this one if he loses i'm not gonna say he was not in his prime cause right now Toney to me is back at the top of his game like he was when he tore apart Iran Barkley........but everybody Toney has fought he has made them look bad and lackluster its not like these guys are actually giving him any problems or winning any rounds against him bottom line James Toney can beat anybody in your top 10 today
And yeah Ike Quartey(he was cheated in the De la Hoya and Vargas fight) will be added to my sig later "Don't Call it a Come Back"
Toney is definitely the best heavyweight in the world today. The only guy I see that might give him problems other than Rahman is Byrd. Toney should beat Rahman and unify some belts ASAP!!! Time is running out.
I think the only thing that beats Toney now is his age, but don't worry, I won't say Toney was out of his prime if he loses because he looked amazing against Holyfield, Booker, Ruiz, and Guinn. Honestly, he looked best in the Holyfield fight, but it's not like he's slipped or anything.
I guess I am one of them. But I realize how good he WAS and the fact that he won't fight any good heavys is a problem I have. If anyone here can name 1 guys that Toney had taken on at heavy that was any good (and don't even say Guinn cuz I call bullshit on that one) I will turn.
He is a talented fighter who is smart because he will beat Rahman, I mean what top 10 guy couldn;t beat him right now, and then fight a few small guys before he goes out on top. But mark my words, he will NEVER fight Wlad, Byrd, Vitali or any of ther big guys in the division.
They're marked, and you're wrong. Never fighting Byrd would be the biggest mistake of his career.
AS far as any top-ten guy beating Rahman, I'm pretty sure you're fooling yourself. On a good day, none but the very best in the division would beat him. Look at Barrett-Rahman and Tua-Rahman. They're both top-tenners today.
Gotta big newsflash for ya: Toney failed to even score a draw against Ruiz, and no, Toney in legit bouts ain't been in against better heavy comp than the above fighters you list. You're also welcome to post the source where Johnson's camp turns down Toney prior to Guinn. Good luck, since we know you'll eventually stumble across that boxing website that has Johnson taking an breather fight against some 6 headed goof from Mars.
Yeah, yeah, we know it's the expanding bra size of Toney with you too!
Why are you still here? You've been exposed as a know nothing hack.
He asked who Toney had fought that was top 20. The answer was Ruiz and Holyfield.
Those are better fights than Williamson and McCline, Williams and Sanders, and Golota and Oquendo.
Every time you post, you continue to embarass yourself.
Nice to see you learned how to use the quote button though. Maybe there's hope for you yet.
You're not too swift are you?
Holyfield WAS top 20 when Toney beat him.
Also, you asked who he fought that was in the top 20.
Ruiz and Holyfield.
That's better competition than Byrd, Ruiz, or Vitali had fought in the last two years.

He did not beat Ruiz. Ruiz was a no contest. If you honestly say that Holyfield is even in the top 100 right now you are out of your mind.

He beat Ruiz and for you not to give Toney the credit for that win tells a lot about your character and how you are in denial that Toney beat Ruiz.

Then take Ali out your sig, because the condition he came into a lot of fights would be classified as "pudgy" by today's standards. Hell, maybe even then because Ken Norton was in great conditioning.
ali never weighed like 40 pounds above his normal weight like toney.
Yes, he beat Holyfield and Ruiz. Has Vitali two former champs since winning the title years ago?

I don't praise Vitali. But who the hell has Toney fought at heavy that is even in the top 20 of any alphabet.
