On Monday December 19th at 9:00am PST in the U.S. District Court in Nevada a decision may be made that possibly changes the future of boxing in Las Vegas. Former WBC #1 ranked heavyweight contender, Baby Joe Mesi will present his case in front of Judge Douglas Herndon in an attempt to get his license back so he will be free to box in the U.S. again. The aftermath of the decision can lead to several different scenarios. Jack Mesi, father and manager of the fighter told Fightnews today, “The Judge will have a difficult decision to make. If we win the case we will need to be compensated for the almost 2 years out of the ring at a time when Joe was set to make big money.” Jack Mesi went on to say, “If we lose, then Joe Mesi has been held to a very high standard. Future fighters who want to box in Vegas may be hesitant to fight there because they must also be held to this high standard. Getting matches in Las Vegas may have a problem getting arranged
I hope all goes well, i liked mesi and if he's medically cleared let him fight. What I don't like is how his father said they should be compensated b/c he couldn't fight for 2 years. I think that might work against them b/c who knows what could have happened if he continued to fight after Jirov.
I think that they are going after the New York Athletic Commision for releasing his medical records without his consent. When he went to the hospital the Commision gave the findings to Nevada without his permission. The lawsuit that Jack is speaking of is in regards to that.
Mesi looked very vunerable just before he got his license taken away for having damage to the brain. I think that final round with the fearsome Joriv, when he was floored 3 times, thats what cause his brain bleeding. I hope they don't pass him only for financial gain. Mesi could be killed after suffering bleeding from brain!
