Ali, best fighter ever?

Firstly, i've never taken anything away from Muhammad Ali. He's one of the best ever. Now, sure Robinson lost to LaMotta, after his 40th straight win without a previous loss! All six of Robinson's fights with Jake LaMotta were very close. Did you know he fought a guy named Jackie Wilson 14 days after the loss, won, then fought LaMotta again after fighting him just 3 WEEKS PRIOR and beat him? Did Ali ever do anything of the sort? I didn't think so. Fighting mostly nobodies? You must be ignorant. Any knowing boxing historian will tell you that he would always fight top-level opponents. Robinson spent most of his prime and there after "searching" for opponents. They usually couldn't find capable opponents for him. If you think Robinson is considered the best ever simply due to his record, again, you seriously need to pick up a history book. Judging by the WALL of Ali pictures you have in your signature (and your avatar), you're obviously an Ali-biased fan so there's no point in arguing with you. If you really knew much about Muhammad Ali, again, you'd realize that Ali IDOLIZED the man. Sure Ali was one of the greats, but if you're trying to say he's the best boxer of all-time, in any weight-class, #1?, your mistaken. well, if he was "searching" as you say, then how come he couldn't "find" turpin, burley, and moore?

robinson lost at 22 to slow lamotta. like i said robinson is still the greatest middleweight, but he's overrated cause everyone says p4p he's the best, which is just not true. i have him p4p number 4 under ali, jones jr., and gans. having a long career fighting mostly nobodies does not make you p4p the best. people like joe gans, roy jones, and ali fought anybody they could get their hands on and beat them. robinson's motives were calculated in piling up victories but against who? just something to think about IMO! yeah.. lets look at the facts for just a moment butterfly As an amateur, his record (officially) includes 85 straight wins, 69 knockouts (40 of those in the 1st round) he has more knockouts than most champions ever have fights in their careers (108 kos BTW) he was never actually KO'ed in his 25 year career. No one ever beat Robinson twice until he was 40 years old. If you gave him a rematch, you lost. How can ANYONE say either Ali or Robinson were overrated!!!!??? they are p4p da 2 best EVER! arguments wil be made about whos number 1 p4p forever but almost every1 will agree dat both of these two deserve dat accolade! and da fact dat Ali got vast amounts of TV coverage and stil does, whereas robinson fights r in blak n white and da average person wont know too much abuot robinson! this makes ppl think ali was beter dan robinson as dey havnt heard about wa robinson achieved as a boxer! safe Good point! I have to piggy back on that! Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Ali fan, and I do believe he was one of the best to ever step into the ring, but I think he gets a little extra respect because of his actions outside of the ring! He was willing to stand up for what he believed in, and people respect him for it! And after a three years exile, he came back and still did his thing! I think Robinson is the best P4P, but Ali was a greater champion!

He didn't stop Fraizer. Fraizer was exhausted by the end of that fight, and it's said that had he gotten up for the 15th Ali wouldn't have come out... I'd just like to note that all the people voting yes are either new people-- meaning they probably know very little-- and nuthuggers... ali stopped fraizer ali said, he couldnt imagine how he would have gotten past the next round he was so tired, but he was going to go out if he needed to. by the way, i would like to formally apologize for voting yes on this poll, for i had thought that it was about best hw's, not best overall fighters my mistake

I love Ali. He is one of the biggest influences of my lifetime. Technically though he was a nightmare. He got by with a lot of flaws in his style because of speed and athleticism. Great fighter and the biggest star the sport has ever seen but..... The best fighter I ever saw...live or on film was Ray Robinson.

Whoever that says Sugar Ray Robinson is overrated needs to start watching boxing... I believe Joe Louis would have outboxed Muhammad Ali without many problems, and stop him in the mid to late rounds.

Its impossible to say who was the best. There are so many fighters most of us have never seen fight, who were incredible. I personally think Ali wouldnt have got away with his hands held low style against many great fighters if they were fighting at the same weight. you said that perfectly. you are 100% right.
