This thread might be better in the MMA forum, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway. The other day I had a discussion with one of my friends who was a golden glove champion in Texas. We were talking about who would win a fight between a boxer and a wrestler in a street fight. The ideal fight we came up with was Matt Hughes from the UFC and Roy Jones Jr. Both of them are about the same weight and are both highly respected in their sport. So I was just wanting to know everyone's opinion.
bull **** classic example ali vs inouku japans top wrestler lost to him and it was in a ring setting so ali haad less footwork and manuverabilty so bring on ur holds and grapples well see what happens
A wrestler will always assume that his opponent can knock his socks off. He'll wait for the opportunity to take him down. Why would he trade punches when he knows his best chance at winning is on the ground?
what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to anyone out there that says the only reason y a wrestler is going to beat a boxer because of that bull crap takedown stuff i dare u to take me on plz do it. first off u would have to try to close the gap in order to get into takedown range. plus we do train in something called foot work stupid morons. so try to go for the takedown that is what a back step is used for. and as for we dont like being hugged uhmm we in vented the clinch morons!.
ANY WRESTLER LOOKING FOR A FIGHT emanil me keyanu.alvarado@yahoo.com.
About conditioning in mma. I've seen mma guys who go for the 5 5-minute rounds and still have gas in the tank, and I've seen guys gas by the 2nd round. I've also seen boxers who gas out too, it's all about the individual. One thing that you learn in bjj is how to make it very tough for the guy on bottom to breathe. You do this to sap their energy and to get them to panic and make a bad move, leaving them open to submissions/strikes.

Bottom line - No Professional Boxer will not stand a chance against a professional MMArtist.
Boxer's are not used to kicks, nor can they protect themselves from being taken down.
Only chance a boxer would have is if that first shot would land and result in the KO. There is nothing else to discuss on this
The difference in athleticism between a boxer and most MMA fighters is massive. MMA fighters can barely go two 5 minute rounds without gasing out.
so true. the level of conditioning would play a big part in it. ive seen plenty of mma guys with huge muscles but that dont mean shit when you cant even breathe after fighting for only 5-6 minutes.

I bet if roy jones (even at 35) trained one month in grappling he would destroy matt hughes and 99% of MMA fighters. The difference in athleticism between a boxer and most MMA fighters is massive. MMA fighters can barely go two 5 minute rounds without gasing out.
A good boxer would know how to throw his elbows and make sure things stayed upright.
What, none of you were ever in a fight in high school? Boxing-wrestling rivalries can get pretty intense. Let me say this, too, when things did go to the floor, I was generally stronger than the wrestlers. Plus, they'd complain that I was "breaking the rules. I don't know what they meant by that.
Anybody could win a fight on any given day. The same wrestler and boxer could fight 6 times each winning 3 or whatever.
that is true depending on how pumped you are who lands the first punch wether you slip on something.
I mean my last wrestling tournament..i lost to someone i beat twice last year and i absolutely dominatinated teching him once(up by 6 or more points in a round) and by pin in the first round and he beat me this year by pin in the 2nd round. It all depends in a street fight and in wrestling theirs some big consiquences to fuck up i mean i was winning and he tried to throw me and i fucked up the counter and tripped.
no way boxers loses to wrestlers. wrestling is fake. boxing is real!
we're talking about olympics wrestling...you know u win by points or pin not the wrestling that people wear costumes, hit people with chairs and women wrestle in tank tops with amazingly large fake tits
