its really hard to make a clear decision. i would have to say hatton. taylor just didnt beat hop in the first fight and he didnt impress in the second. i would think that 05 was a setup year for toney to be fighter of the year in 06 now that he is in line to start winning titles at heavyweight.
Kostya Tszyu is one of the greatest 140 pound fighters ever, and Hopkins is who at 160? No one recognized him until he fought Trinidad and De la Hoya, both who gained weight to fight him. If Hopkins is p4p #1 why has he never moved up in weight? Its because he knows what would happen if he does. All his counterparts have moved up weight including Toney and Roy Jones. Even Tszyu is moving to 147 at this point of his career. Hopkins is a fluke. Taylor gave his performances a terrible rating in both fights, how is he the fighter of the year. Its ridicolous.
i say ricky hatton. unlike his middleweight "counterpart" jermain taylor, hatton won his belt legitimately and unquestionably and he did it in his home town. not only that, in his subsequent fight, hatton delivered a shred of stabilization to his division by unifying the IBF and WBA titles by knocking out the man who pulled off the upset of the year carlos maussa.
IMO, this has been the best year in the life of ricky hatton.
Theres no way you can give it to Taylor. Are you guys crazy? He beat a 40 year old champ. Hatton beat Tszyu and Hatton and he unified two titles. Who's stock is bigger right now, Taylor's or Hattons? Hatton in a crazy fight vs Tszyu with mad people watching, or Taylor and Hopkins putting on a bore fest for 400k people on ppv.
I agree, Taylor did beat Hopkins twice but either fight could have gone either way. Hatton stopped two world champs and Tsyzu was a p4p too, as well as Hopkins. I agree Taylor's wins are significant but Hatton's manner of victory wins him fighter of the year in my eyes!

Jermain Taylor, no question about it. Poor Hatton did everything he could this year, but two wins over Hopkins, the #1 p4p guy at the time, gains anyone fighter of the year status and top 5 p4p. Congrats, Taylor. Tough break, Hatton.
I think all the choices in this list were the right ones though.
So you can honestly say you picked Hatton to TKO Tszyu?
Nope. I thought even an over the hill Tszyu had a shot at beating him. I like the guy but he is way too hyped.

I voted Lacy.
He is one of the most impressive fighters in the sport as a whole.
Taylor no. 2 gift decisions over Hopkins.
Hatton no. 1 win over a washed up Tszyu.

I think you will be singing a different tune when Lacy knocks Calzaghe out, then moves up to light heavyweight to unify there.
Everyone will........................
I think that's overstating it by quite a bit.

Taylor beating the #1 P4P and a future all of famer twice in one year does that for you
No not the way it all went down......I think both fights could have just as easily went to Hopkins or even better yet been a draw.

I went with Brewster because of his blow out of Golota and gutsy performance over seas against Krasniqi......hatton would be my socond choice I guess but J.T. gets no love from me he just did not show me he is Tha Man with those very close sloppy, boring fights with Hopkins.
