I've just seen his fight with Alberto Coates in 1995 (I'll try to upload it for you people within a few weeks), Hatton was picking his shots very well and showing very good variety. Coates was the reigning champion and pre-fight favourite but Hatton schooled his ass with his punch-picking and punch-placing, in round two you see VERY fast jabbing ability from Hatton ala Jones Jr on Pazienza. It opened up at the end with Coates attacking him but Coates would land one left hook on Hatton only for Hatton to respond with a triple left-hook which stretched his lead even more! The final score was 35-12.
I've also just seen Hatton's fight with Lauri from a few years back, What! This kid was sick, and Billy Graham is a bloody good trainer. You evidently notice that Billy Graham took Hatton to another level when he took him in 1997, Hatton appears very elite in this fight. Obviously without Hatton's incredible skill then Graham wouldn't of had so much success with him, but fair play to Graham anyway. Ricky was throwing every custom shot you can think of at Laurie, yeah you name it - customised overhand lefts, screw uppercuts with either hand to head or body, switch uppercuts with either hand to head or body, 45's, long hooks to the body ala 89-91 Eubank, bolo punch, right hook to head instantly followed by right hook to body, it was insane to watch!
Hatton and Graham would work on shots and invent moves of their own.
You watch the Magee fight and Hatton shows impressive boxing skills with those in and out tactics, good brain, good composure. I just loved the head movement when he was coming in and the way he was throwing a little jab when he was backing out, and his little pause before he attacks. Great stuff, the guy had so much fucking skill. He may of wasted himself with all the binge-drinking and junk-eating, he could of been unbeatable.
Great post.
I think Hatton has shown that He is a very disciplined fighter, and He sticks to the gameplan. Speed isn't everything & Hatton stacks up in enough categories easily now that cannot be overlooked just because of some flash.
Against Tszyu, Ricky took some full-blooded shots but was not that badly beaten up. He is an extremely good fighter who is very, very clever at diffusing an opponent's power punches.
His lateral movement is good, he walks you down which cuts the distance between him and the opponent, and that takes away a lot of their power. That is certainly what he did against Tszyu. And when shots do land, Ricky moves his head so well, he takes the sting out of them that way.
Definetly a pick'em fight. If anyone picks a TKO 6 like the Gatti fight, they are in for a rude awakening.
It depends how each of them fights. If Mayweather fights on the ropes against Hatton, he aint winning. Mayweather can't let Hatton trap him near the ropes or in a corner, he shouldn't fight on the backfoot with Hatton because he shouldn't want to risk getting trapped towards the ropes where Hatton would tee off on him using angles to head and body. I think Mayweather would have to dictate from ring centre if he wants to win, and punch HARD to keep Hatton off him. If they get into exchanges, if Mayweather opens up too much, I see Hatton getting the better of him! Mayweather needs to be cautious, but while taking the least ammount of steps back as poss, I think, if he wants to win, and he'll need to punch HARD.
So it all depends on how they fight, I'm sure that Hatton will pressure Mayweather because that's when Mayweather has only looked suspect. But Castillo was making mistakes that pressure fighters shouldn't - punching to the arms and elbows, Hatton wouldn't make those mistakes. I'm sure that Mayweather won't fight on the ropes, because Hatton would eat him.
I just don't know :)
This fight Needs to fucking happen ;)

Hatton has said to a personal friend of his who I personally know, that he wouldn't stand toe-to-toe with Castillo.
JUYJUY what do you honestly think the outcome of Mayweather - Hatton would be.
I've been saying for a while this shoulder tuck will not work on ANY strong right handed puncher. Hatton has a very diverse set of punches. His best by far is the corkscrew left uppercut, but I believe his right cross to be almost as valuable.
If you take a look at the Maussa fight, he exploits Maussa's lack of head movement and tags Maussa with the right cross a good amount of times. This is when he is remembering to box although ;)
nice reasoning
hattons swarming style is effective no doubt, but i wouldnt call that boxing skill
castillo is a extremly effective multi dimensional fighter
he can box, he can trade, he can fight on the inside and can fight on the outside. he can do everything good
Sorry but you just haven't seen many Hatton fights.
Take a look at the Magee - Hatton fight and that's exactly what Hatton would fight like against Castillo.
Hatton would box over and out, and take Castillo on the cards.
thats because you are ethnocentric and incapable of giving credit to a boxer who isnt from the uk. oh and your retarded.
I speak the truth, if you don't like it then that's your problem.
he makes weight, but it helps that he is so short
since your a big fan of hatton, you must know about his eating and drinking problems
there quite well known actully, im suprised your not informed of them
I said in my previous quote that he blows up between fights???
He also likes a beer and a keebab, my point was that he never has problems making weight! Also the rapid weight loss does not affect his conditioning becuase he is super fit!
It may effect his longevity as a fighter but he has already stated himself that he does not think that he will have a long career simply becuase of the way he fights!

Well Hatton would not use a swarming style to beat Castillo, I know this because I've been told by a personal friend of his. Ricky will use in and out tactics against Castillo and use his boxing skills to get him on the cards.
Are you trying to tell me that throwing combinations of four or five left hands before you can even blink is not skill? Castillo is not in Hatton's class as far as skill is concerned, never has been and never will be.
I think the opposite.

These eating problems you mention, Hatton blows up in between fights but never has trouble making the weight???
He is about the fittest boxer out there so he must be doing the correct regime for his genetic make up therefore how does this figure?

I didn't say he wasn't good, he's just taken way too many shots to the face...hmmm...come to think about it, most blokes look that way, hahaha :D
No he looked that way before he started boxing!
hmmm
not true, floyd was injured and in the next fight ud'd him clearly
that was also a different floyd, a less powerful agressive floyd
i disagree and thing castillo would have a good shot to beat hatton
hatton isnt bigger either, hes only 5'6"
he also has eating problems and i dont think he is nearly the talented boxer castillo is

Castillo beat Mayweather.
Hatton is bigger, stronger, faster, fitter, more relentless, and more talented than Castillo.
