The Front page already has its third article hating on Taylor, as does ESB. The man just fought two of his smartest fights of his life, outboxing the boxer, beating a man that hasn't lost in 10 years, and capturing all 4 major titles (3 now). And yet we have losers still bitter about Hopkins losing, and creating bullshit articles.
But Taylor did not do enough to win. He looked really amatuerish at times. He got confused. It really showed that he had been fed on a diet of overmatched smaller opponents (his one legit contender he faced was an out of retirement old Joppy). He was extreamly lucky he was facing a 40 year old man who just couldn't pull the trigger like he used to. Two years ago Taylor would have been knocked out.
I don't just count rounds on punches thrown. I count a lot for work-rate and punch output, but also a lot for controlling the ring and clean punching.
Apparently he DID do enough to win, TWICE!!!!!! Three judges and a big majority of the public thought so, and thats all that matters. As for Nards age, I love how that became an issue ONLY when he finally got beat. Convenient, but totally expected.
Taylor won, period. Taylor did what nobody has been able to do in 10 yr's, period. Taylor deserves shit loads of credit for that, period. Like it or not, those two fights are a matter of record now, and nothing will change that. People can 'boo' taylors win all they want, but he is the champ....so many are losing sight of the fact that that is indeed the important thing here. Taylor is young, after all, and can only improve from here. Do you not think he'll do just that to keep his titles that he earned? Bernard is the past for jermain now..he matters not at all, and with different fighters (less defensive ones, for one thing) he'll put on better shows and hopefully please the masses (the ones looking for something to complain about) a bit more.
hmm
Taylor did enough to win and Hopkins was not robbed.
People truly do not understand the term "robbery" if they refer to either fight as such. Both fights were award to Taylor by the judges and in both fights more fans felt Taylor won than Hopkins.
Maybe the Hopkins' guys should look in the mirrow, and they will see the robbers, as they are stealing away all the credit from Taylor.
although i'm not arguing any more :p , here's the quote to best summarize the fight last saturday:
"All too often, the younger Taylor would throw a brief burst of punches, which looked terribly menacing, and drew applause from the fans and the HBO commentators alike; however, more often than not, it seemed Hopkins was subtly slipping these punches."
im not bitter about hopkins losing, im bitter about taylor winning. taylor has had less than 30 fights, and a LOT less impressive wins. where was the fire? where was the desperate passion to win? where was the digging-down-deep-to-find-what-it-takes-to-win-desire? and where the fuck are the noteworthy opponents he beat to deserve a title shot?!
taylor's a product. and much like all the other products before him, he'll have a short run, he'll be exposed (time and time again), and he'll fall from the top of the hill to the bottom of the valley. mark... my... words...
the fact remains that taylor won two close...VERY CLOSE fights. Nobody got screwed. GEtting screwed is if Nard won without a doubt,by a landslide, and didnt get the nod. He didnt do that. I've seen robberies aplenty, and neither fight was one of them. You cant finally decide in rd. 6 or 7 that you might had better fight, after all. There are too many rd's before that that he lost. Simple math, and the 10 pt must system.

He outlanded Taylor in both fights. He had Taylor hurt on numerous occasions on both fights.

when did nard get screwed?? He truly lost both fights, in my opinion.

All you Taylor fans need to understand that (most of) these criticisms have NOTHING to do with Hopkins or any opponent from Taylor's past..
they have to do with Taylor's potential as a champion and the fact that time is a factor now that he's the #1 guy in the division. if he wants to remain successful, he needs to continue to grow, mature, and tweak all those little holes in his style. End of argument (for me at least).
I admire Taylors courage, focus and determination. I am not knocking him at all as a man. I am saying that when the major marketing entities of boxing want a new draw, they make every effort they can to back it. It's been said many times over that boxing needs a new star, that we are experiencing a changing of the guard and that Bernard fit no one's most liked list.
Please name one champ that got screwed the way Bernard did? One champ.

He is a very humble, quiet man..always has been. If he critized himself after the fights it's just something he does cause he knows he can do better.
I was impressed with him yes, cause he did what nobody has done in 10 yrs..I dont care how he did it. Both were defensive fights, which he won. Impressive to me..nobody else could do it.

Oh please. Look at his expression (along with the marks on his face) after the first fight. He looked like somebody had just shot his dog, not like he was confident in a win. Same with the second fight, minus the major bumps and bruises. Did he fuck up becaues he won? No, but he fucked up by not impressing anybody. Can anybody honestly say after watching him fight Hopkins twicer that they were impressed? They might not be depressed, and have hopes, but honestly impressed?
Also, Nard talking about KO'ing Taylor is BS anyways. So a fighter made a claim prefight... and people bought it.... whose fault is that? I didn't believe for a second Hopkins would be ultra aggressive and manage to KO him unless it was a pure lucky counter punch that landed right on the button.

Beranrd kept on tryin to convince the public, sayin that he gonna knockout Jermain. He made believers (Dirt E and restless), but that aint good enough.
Hah. Find one post on this entire website where I said Bernard would KO Taylor. The closest I came was saying I hope B-Hop knocks him out. If you want to debate, that's fine (despite your lack of debating skills). But don't resort to lies.
I kicked myself in the ass for believing the Bernard Hopkins hype once again.
He has never put in a masterful performance other then the fight with Tito which He did end with a knockout.
So even if you feel Taylor won it, which I don't , he won it by losing the last six rounds (with the exception of the 11th), getting hurt twice, never hurting his opponent and far more tired than Bernard at the end. He proved that his power is overated, that his jab is overated, that he is a sucker for a right hand and had to hang on for his life to survive a forty year old champ who without question has his best days behind him.
Sounds like a legend in the making. Seems to me HBO is hoping for it's next Gatti.
Lol, if he won, both times, how exactly did he fuck up? Either way, with the fans he cant lose in this situation. The ones that like him keep in mind who he was fighting, and all the other 'more exciting' fights he was in. The haters will keep watching him if only to see him lose. If anyone fucked up it was Nard...thinking he could ko jermain, and win with his name and career backing alone (first fight I mean..think he knew better the second time around)

Exactly!

The funny part is that when you all think bout it, Jermain won both fights fightin IN HOPKINS GAME/GAME PLAN. LOL. Hop wanted a boring, slow paced fight (the ones he excel in) and he LOST in a fight he wanted to fight in.
hmm
The bottom line is, people that picked Hopkins to win are now saying Taylor looked unimpressive in beating a guy that they originally said was gonna KO Taylor. ALL of the articles have been slanted anti-Taylor. It's bullshit. When Tarver beat Roy in October, there were plenty of articles supporting and not supporting him. Someone should give Taylor credit.
I was teachin you how to properly score a fight in which 4 posts befo YOU SEEMED to don't know how to do........
I said that landing the MORE clean shots don't win you fights. I say "say Hop landed MORE, but only landed then in 4 rounds", DONT MEAN he should be winner.
you brought the way how YOU THINK a fight should be won, I just told you THE RIGHT way.....
Yeah, so you're saying in a hypothetical situation a fight should be scored so that Hop loses if he only lands his punches in 4 rounds. This is common knowledge... not a debate point. You're discussing a "what if" in a fight. It serves no purpose and proves nothing.
What point? If hypothetically Hop landed all of his punches in 4 rounds he'd hypothetically lose a UD to his hypothetical opponent? Brilliant as always Manny.

The only thing Taylor should be insulted by is his own performance, not how others speak of it. He knows he done fucked up and won decisions that could've gone either way. Taylor needs to step his game up if he truly wants to be the next great middle weight champ and there's nothing wrong with saying so.

Your points are definitely valid but it doesn't explain why boxing writers who are supposedly boxing fans on a boxing website are badmouthing this fight so much.
Exactly! It's unprofessional, to say the least. Being able to report the news while being neutral is important. Bashing should be limited to the "opinion" threads where everyone else posts...not the actual articles.
