RICKY HATTON flies out to America today in a bid to hook up with ring legend Oscar de la Hoya.
The IBF and WBA world light-welterweight champ, 27, is looking for a United States-based promoter and De la Hoya’s company Golden Boy are the favourites.
Hatton is hoping his next title defence will be in New York against Canadian Arturo Gatti some time in May.
Madison Square Garden has already put up a bid of around £300,000 to stage the fight.
Golden Boy had super-featherweight glamour boy Marco Antonio Barrera at ringside as their representative in Sheffield on Saturday.
Barrera saw Hatton win his unification bout over Carlos Maussa with a ninth-round knockout.
Makes me laugh to read people banging on about how the Hatton v Gatti fight is gonna be an all out brawl. Bullshit. Its gonna be a easy win for Hatton. Gatti aint even in the Hatton/Mayweather class.
Ps. I mean Gatti now and not a prime Gatti as I've never seen Gatti in his prime. But lets not get into this prime
gatti v prime hatton or prime mayweather shit debates because they are so shit boring and annoying.
Exactly.
Nobody, especially UK fans, should get too stoked about a Hatton-Gatti matchup. Hatton is at the top of his game and Gatti hasn't been for a long time. Sure it's a good draw, but it will be an empty victory for Hatton that will not provide him any credibility.
nuthugging? dont make me laugh, just offering a point of view just like ure crazy suggestion that floyd just has to simply turn up and win.hattons better than that and the common belief that mayweather is invincible and will be able to not get hit for 12 rounds is laughable. There is little chance mayweather will stop hatton inside the distance (i agree if it goes 12 rounds mayweather will more than likely have the decision),then hatton has a rasonable chance with his power and unrelenting pressure and should not be dismissed like your one eyed views.
some of the ideas made above that hatton would be schooled by mayweather are ridiculous, he is a much better fighter than that and deserves a bit more respect. In my eyes this fight is at most 60-40 in mayweather's favour though with hatton's hunger to fight and beat the best around at 140, and not running scared mayweather style to fight at 147 with boxers killed by tsyu in the past (mitchell, judah) this would be a difficult fight to predict, though my gut says hatton to just wear floyd down to secure a late stoppage, thats if the fight ever happens with floyd's stupid demands and lack of desire to beat the true champions of the best division out there.
a classic case of nuthugging. like i said before hattons good real good, but not good enough to beat floyd. i dont even like floyd, its just clear that he would win.

Just watched Maussa again and can't see anything in that fight (nor the Zoo fight) that Mayweather can't handle, match and/or duplicate.
Maussa, for instance, was tapping Hatton at long distance with a second-tier jab, followed-up by a telegraphed right hand. Picture Mayweather in there, with a lightening jab followed-up by a lightening right hand and possibly something else in combination, the he's gone. That is a very conceivable scenario, really. There's no lunging/jumping hook for Hatton to end things, 'cause I truly believe that Mayweather's shadow is all that Ricky might hit. he's that fast and slick.
I was fast becoming a Hatton convert, after being drawn by the inertia of the Zoo win. Hatton then gave us this Maussa effort, which was not stellar. You can never have a "B" night like that against Mayweather. Maybe against Cotto, but never May.
Ricky got my attention with Zoo, and again lost it that quickly with the Maussa showing. No disrespect, really, but I can't see Ricky fairing well against someone as quick and conditioned as Mayweather. He might get credit for staying upright and possibly going the distance, but that's it. Against Mayweather, that's considered quite an achievement.
I think it's already quite an established opinion, even by himself, that Hatton put in a bad performance and is capable of boxing a lot better. I think he'll pick it up for a fight against Gatti (which I don't think will be as easy as some people think) and then again against Mayweather.

hatton is good but please, mayweather beats him with ease. hatton is even more ugly after a fight with floyd.

I'm not a Hatton fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this is a definitely a big step in me liking him.
Hopefully he's going to hook up with the best promotion company in the sport. The beauty of Golden Boy Promotions is that it's run by (ex) fighters who know what it's like to be in the ring, etc.
If hatton does sign with them, it will definitely earn him a lot of respect form the American fans, and might establish an American fan base for him.
As for fighting Gatti, it'll be a fun fight to watch. Both of them are relentless to the body, which is going to drop someone's hands and a big KO is going to follow. Look for Gatti's hands (as much as I like him) to start dropping by the 7th round and Hatton dropping him.
At least Gatti is a warrior and a respectable bloke. Harris is a loudmouthed turd.
this is true. you know, w/ hatton POSSIBLY comnig to america - and cotto already established as a star. i can see those two taking over while leaving floyd out of the picture, i think that floyd's going to end up like tim austin, hey, it can happen. :boxing:
I reckon it is a good move to join golden boy. Hatton will beat gatti, but not like mayweather performance against gatti. Then i think he will go for cotto, because mayweather dont seem to be interested.
