I have been a distant fan of Miguel Cotto's for a while now and I have to admit that Im falling off the bandwagon-and no it is not all because he is Puerto Rican.
Diego Corrales, Ricky Hatton, JL Castillo, Floyd Mayweather...all of these guys do something extordinary, my question is what does Cotto do that puts him in these guys league?
Corrales is p4p the bet puncher in the sport, p4mohterfuckingpound!
Castillo is the sports premier machine, his chin is second to absolutely positively none!
Floyd is easily the fastest fighter of the bunch and has the most all around talent...is their a better defensive fighter in the world? Fuck no.
Hatton is the most relentless fighter of the four, his punch output is ridiculous and his nickname should be HELL because thats where you need to go to beat him.
As for Cotto...what does Miguel do that is going to get him to the top of this class?
If anyone has some thoughts please fill me in because Im losing faith.
the guy is probly the best bodypuncher in the world today, hes got plenty of heart, hes the 1st person to stop the iron tough chop chop corley, 1st person to beat the dynamite fisted ricardo torres, and is the WBO jr welter champ.
24-0 with 21 stops is impressive for a champion. i still have my misgivings about his chin, but other than that, hes proven himself to be a legit player in the fight game.
Listen Camacho Sosa had absolutely no business fighting at 140, no business...but do I expect you to understand this...no.
As for Cotto if you have been following him and judging by your posts you havent you could make the case that just as Sosa doesnt belong at 140 neither does Cotto.
Cotto is the biggest 140 pounder you will find-Sosa is the smallest 140 pounder you will ever find.
why did you call him camacho, when its blatant, that his name is machotime? prick. for me - i mean - i don't think that he should, when speaking accolades, be put in with that group of guys - for the exception of hatton - to me they're on the same level, you can make the argument that hattons fought the better comp - but thats just because cotto didn't get to tzuyu first. its up coming talent - when floyd took on genaro only after his 14th fight - i was like dude doesn't deserve it and this and that and he dismantled him like nobodies business. not that i'm saying that cotto'd do that to these guys, point being that on some mornings i prefer to masturbate instead of having sex, also, cotto has shown that he can be shook - big deal, had tyson, hearns and countless others been "shook" and known what to work on b4 being pit against real people - probably different outcomes and become all the better for it. cotto beats castillo, corrales, hatton but not mayweather. too big and too skilled to be beat by anyone less than mayweather. :boxing:

Oh and Sosa wieghed in at 139
Sosa had not had a real fight at 140, however.
Just because you weigh a certain amount, it doesn't make you legitimate in that weight class.
Fair point scap.
No one picked Hatton to beat Tszyu, and once Tszyu loses they call him aging, and slow. Really erks me!
He was 36 years old when he fought Hatton. 36 years old is definitely aging!
Vicky Sosa was 135 pounder fighting a junior middleweight, that fight was not fair.
As for Cotto being more exciting...I guess your entitled to your opinion...I guess.

a junior middle weight? Miguel weighed in at 140, junior middleweight is 154.
I think Cotto has done alot. His resume is better than Hatton's,...way better. He has fought fighters like; Victoriano Sosa, Chop Chop, Pinto, N'dou, Bazan, Jukko, Abdulaev. Also his style is the most marketable style out of all of the previous boxers mentioned. He fights with more style than Mayweather, Castillo, Corrales, and Hatton. People love to see him fight. Oh and finally he is the best body puncher out of all of these fighters. As Bob Arum said "He is not a good body puncher, he is a great body puncher". Victoriano Sosa whom fought names like Mayweather and Spadafora said, "he has relentless stlye, be has an impressive arsenal of punches." He also has a much higher KO percentage than any of the fighters previously mentioned. I am not saying that he is ready to fight all of them. Cotto is still young with alot to learn, he admits that. But he is in this class because people love to see the man fight. He is not a boring Winky, economical Hopkins or sloppy Hatton. He is exciting, and has a great left hook.

I assume you rpseaking o f Mr. Zoo being old, slow and weak?
Sure it is easy to say that now but were you picking Hatton to beat KT?
Hatton is the 140 KING, Diego, JL and Floyd have all owned at 1 time the 135 pound division...
Will Miguel Cotto ever own a division or will he be sort of like Fernando Vargas who can beat Shibata Flores/Castiejllo for a belt but cant beat THE MAN?
Fair point scap.

THE MAN that you are refering to is a has been champ, a once great fighter, an aging, slower, weaker fighter.

Will he be a paper champ or will he actually beat the above mentioned fighters?
Anyone can win a belt, not everyone can do what Hatton did which is beat THE MAN. Does Cotto just win a belt or does he own a divsion?
All four men mentioned have onwed a division.

I agree with your post 100%.......Cotto has really done little to be spoke about in the same league with these guys and I too am starting to wonder if he ever will but it is still early and he is still young and I guess we just have to wait and see.
the only special thing that has made him famous is that 1. Hes under Bob Arum and 2. Hes Puerto Rican, and not matter what he does if hes Puerto Rican, Puerto Ricans will think hes the best ever.
I think the big thing with Cotto is that he's supposed to be the next big Puerto Rican star after Trinidad. He's taken a couple of bumps along the road, but I think he'll come by just fine.
Cotto has an excellent offense. He throws a great variety of punches, and is a throwback to the old style of that He is a great body puncher.
He's got great instincts and side steps around to buy time, holds, and punches back. I think the common misconception about Cotto's chin is that it is not good, but not bad either. He does have a huge heart and I think He should just be smarter and to take a knee when need be.
Cotto is showing great resilience, just like all the great fighters before him showed. What more do you guys want?
If I were to point to 1 thing that has gotten my intention with Miguel it would be his ability to recover.
Gatti and Holyfield were guys that people used to mistake for having great chins...in all reality their chins were never as advertised...what made them special was their ability to recover after being zinged a bit. Does Cotto have a similiar ability?
Cotto has shown very good recovery skills, he has been hurt badly but he has dusted the setbacks off and come back warring...you can look at this as a postive or a negative...Im just not ready to spin it in either direction yet.

What cotto needs in most peoples eyes is to fight a top 10 guy.Hatton-Cotto obviously needs to happen,it should be easier to get done now hat floyd has gone 147.
What he's done to make me a fan? Impressed me with his boxing skill and power, pulled through even when he was in trouble. And I feel he's continually fought good competition, but obviously he hasnt had that top fight to make him a marquee fighter.Personally though i rate him above Castillo&Corrales, and i think he can beat Hatton, but thats just my Opinion.Regardless, even if cotto lost tomorrow,I'd still be a fan, i like his style too much.

i dont think cotto is in those guys level yet. you need experience with top 10 pound 4 pound fighters to get to that top level!
but i think that when he fights those top guys he'll learn alot and he'll gain more experience from 1 top fighter than he has fighting all the bums he has been, but he will get there one day!
and im sure he'll be a good champion!
