I'm new to boxing and i wanted to know how long it took for you to get your first amateur fight and what the period between each fight usually is? Thanks
It took me over a year because the first year I had a walkover for reasons unknown to me. Either there was nobody to fight or they didn't want to fight me, or my coach was protecting me. So I won the novice class golden gloves trophy in the superheavyweight division without even fighting. The next year I lost a split decision and got the runner up trophy. I thought I won the fight and so did everyone else that was there except maybe the other fighter and the judges. I lost interest after that and never stuck with it because I felt ripped off. I should have kept with it because I had ability but I couldn't keep in shape ala Kirk Johnson. My coach was the same coach that Scott Ledoux had, Poppa Joe Daskowitz. I hope I spelled his name right. He was an awesome man, rest his soul.
I was supposed to have a fight at about 3 or 4 months into it but twice in a row my fight got cancelled so it was really about 6 or 7 months since I had started I dont remeber. But after my first fight I had another fight a week and a half later.
thanks im not rushing into it i just really want to get started. I love boxing. i want to fight a lot in my first year.
Yeah, wreck your record by being stupid and rushy.
I've trained like a madman for 1 year, and I still havn't found my first fight.
I've been in the ring with tough opponents more then most people that have started their carrer, but I'm gonna win my first bout, no doubt about it.
