Toney lost to Bentt in the final of the 87 US nationals (201lbs!). Gerald McClellan destroyed pre-tournament favourite Tim Littles in the final at 156lbs of the 87 US nationals, McClellan won the 'best boxer' in all weight categories award. Then at the 88 Golden Gloves, McClellan beat Roy Jones Jr (McClellan was the last person to legitimately defeat Jones Jr before Tarver got him). Bernard Hopkins lost to Andrew Maynard at the 88 US nationals at 178lbs. Nigel Benn beat Henry Maske in 1984 at 165.
Just thought it was interesting that Hopkins was fighting at 178 and Toney at 201.
JUYJUY, stop this nonsense, you own no one except yourself by putting your threads in the wrong places and getting flamed for it, enough already.Anytime he can't prove that some Brit beat some American/German/whatever, he resorts to making it up, usually by referring to some amateur tournament. Bentt beat Toney at 201 - HA! :lol1:
uh...no juy juy juy... everybody knows james toney didnt have a big amateur career and he certainly didnt go to the finals of a national aau tournament. bent won it at 201 pounds and james turned pro a year later at 159 pounds. where do you get all this stupid info?

FROM ICE... NO, Juy Juy, James Toney didn't fight in the nationals as an amateur... in 1987 Bent beat Joe Pemberton in the finals...and Hopkins didnt fight MAYNARD IN THE 88 nationals...I was there... and Bernard wasnt even there. Benn didnt beat Maske, either.
ha ha, good one ICE, karma for u
Also, Jones Jr beat Tarver in the final of the 1982 Florida Games but apparently it was a robbery (Tarver quit boxing for many years after this because he thought that he clearly beat Jones Jr).
Tarver didn't quit boxing because of that.
He quit boxing because he moved and where he moved to wasn't big on boxing so he had to stop and he was playing other sports instead.
you told me eubanks lost to, mylon watkins in the finals. u are wrong. mark breland was at the worlds in 82 and said barkley wasn't there. you are looking at some sotry a guy did on iran..iran can tell a reporter anything
Mylon Watkins, that name was mentioned as somebody Eubank lost against but I don't know if it was 84 US Golden Gloves, all I know is that Eubank got to the semi's of the US Golden Gloves on his debut.

Scully, I hear you were down to fight Eubank in 1994.. is that true? It's a good job that the Eubank-Scully fight didn't happen because Eubank would of probably left you red-faced just like he left Jones Jr's other sparring partners red-faced (Logan, Essett, Holmes etc) by playing with them.
You owned me ? LOL u are always wrong. Eubanks did NOT go to the NGG finals in 1984. U have NO IDEA what u are talking about. Barkley was NOT at the world games, Barkley was not there I am TELLING YOU. I have every amateur magazine from 1984... if he was at the world games in 84 then please explain to me how he didnt even make the olympic trials in 1984 and didnt even fight at the nationls that year? HE COULDNT HAVE BEEN AT THE WORLDS. U...ARE...WRONG
Well Eubank must be lying then, because it's in his autobiography that he made the trip to St Louis for the Golden Gloves.
and..
In 1982, Iran joined the US Amateur Boxing Team and traveled throughout Europe. He captured a bronze medal at the Copenhagen Boxing Cup and the World Games in Munich. However, with the Olympics still two years away, he decided to turn pro

Take it easy on him ice.
You do realize that's Chris Eubank you're talking to right?
He's really bored these days, and has taken to posting under the name "JuyJuy" on this site to try and relive his former glory.
He gets worked up very easilly, so I'd just let him be.
Let him think what he wants.
:D

Scully, I've owned you time and again. You said Eubank never fought at National Golden Gloves, well its in the records that he was in St Louis in 84. You say Barkley was not on the world team, ITS ALL IN THE RECORDS. Iran Barkley won Bronze at the 82 World's in Munich.
ALSO... Iran Barkely was not on that world team... he wasnt an elite amateur. I asked Mark Breland who won the world amateur title in 1982 and he said Iran was NOT there.
James Toney never fought in the nationals and never fought Mike Bent. TRUST ME. Littles lost to Gerald in the 87 nationals, the same year Bent beat Joe Pemberton not James Toney. I have Maske's amateur record at home... I wil check and see if and when he fought Nigel Benn and reply later.
Also ICEMAN, you said Virgil Hill went to the 82 World's for the US (because Breland said), but everywhere I see Iran Barkley's name not Hill's. It WAS Barkley dude, they can't make so many mistakes on so many records.

Well at what event did Toney fight Bentt, AAU? And Hopkins against Maynard and McClellan against Littles? Maybe it wasn't nationals, I thought AAU was nationals. And according to the records Benn did beat Maske.
