ya, simple as that.
these guys speaks so fluently n shyt. so many beautiful werds, witty comments and good compliments. I think they reading sumthing that wasprepared. Or they don't and they jest speak freely?
Opinions?
If you go to the HBO website, they have bio's on Lampley and Merchant. Both are very accomplished sport article writers. Lampley had great commentary background. You should read it, it's very nice to know some of hte background of the people that call the show every time. As for reading words off a screen, I believe they do or are given cues, not to mention they have ear pieces on which tell them a lot of stuff. A lot of time after Jim asks Merchant a question, you see Jim looking off abit as he's hearing what's in his ear piece while Merchant distracts with his usual BS.
also keep in mind that they are responding to the action in the ring...emotions and whatnot WILL come into play...
just think back to you watching a fight with someone...you may be explaining a particular fighter to that person or a fact about the match they may not know...then while you are explaining :::BOOM::: someone goes down and you abruptly pause and say "whooooooo! oooo damn look at that! get up! get up!"
your emotions will always come into play
reading something in the backround, you mean like a teleprompter or cue cards? wouldn't surprise me, at least for the intros.
but merchant hitting the henney? i always thought of himself as a jd old # 7 kind of guy. maybe a jack and coke kinda guy.
Sell out because he has information or watches other sports? Manny I think you may be the only one on the forum who only likes boxing and no other sports. If you didn't know Lampley was an announcer for other sports prior to boxing. Although watching him on cheap seats is sort of funny...
Boxing is ta best sport handsdown. Fuck them posers and sellouts!
ya I surprise also. I dint realize Jim Lamplee knows about many sports not jest boxing. When he was talkin bout baseball one time, I thought "sell out", but it seems he jest studied SPORTS in general, not jest boxing.

Jim Lampley is just naturally articulate and very intelligent. These guys are professionals (Merchant and Lampley), so they know how to talk in front of a camera as they went to school for it and learned the trade.
What was bad about what he said the Peter fight
I didn't mean "bad" literally, but a couple of times he kind of got caught up in the moment when Wlad was landing those jabs, and when he got caught with that first slapping hook and didn't go down or anything. He didn't say anything really bad, he just got excited, that's all.
I've noticed that Lampley also says things at times that give you the impression that he lets his emotions do the talking when speaking about certain fighters, he was pretty bad about it in the Wlad-Peter fight. I don't think he reads anything because I've seen him in interviews, both where he was interviewing someone else and where he was actually being interviewed, and he speaks that way seemingly all the time, probably even at home lol
remember these guys probably have A LOT more boxing knowledge than any of us...they see this night after night first hand...this is what they do for a living...so they can do it fluently...
just like if you have been practicing a craft like playing piano...once you have done it for years and years...eventually it becomes second nature...and you just go with the flow...
they don't sound robotic so I think they MAY have specific notes of facts about the fighters in a specific fights and bring it up...but no I HIGHLY doube they read from promters or anything...I assume just notes and go with the flow...
Lampley ?
No, he doesn't have a ton of boxing knowledge.
This is a man who in '92....selected Riddick Bowe & Lennox Lewis as the #1 & #2 lb4lb best in the world.
Yeah....better than prime time Whitaker & Chavez..
i know that the announcers show up hours before fight and have a ruff script to follow and go through.
and merchant, the guys has pissed me off in the past but if you listen to larry on pedro fernandez's show man he's like a different guy when not in front of the cameras. intelligent and insitefull. no fooling.

man these guys (Commentators) make ma English look like grade 2 level, I hate it! These foos probably got 2 GEDs in college. No Manny_P, you make your English look like the second grade
man these guys make ma English look like grade 2 level, I hate it! These foos probably got 2 GEDs in college. They so good in English betta than most people that were born hurrr that I KNOW.
I KNOW, they speak freely when ta fight is goin on. I jest thought bout tis when Jim Lamplee, or Larry Merchant would look into camera, camera zooms, and Merchant has HIS FINAl WERDS. One p[articular one, is Pac vs Velasquez, when camerazooms in Jim Lamplee, and he starts talkin bout Freddie Roach and Roach's backround.
hmm
Honestly, I'd have to see the clip you're talking about to asnwer that question. But, I have that fight on tape but don't know if the intro is on there or not. I just now it was a good fight for Pac.
Pac KO1 world.
lol

thats because there reading backround of the fighers so they can use that with there words. like if jim wanted to use a ceratin knockout that pac did to a certain fighter, they have them facts guy print it out and he memorizes it, its just a fact list them read to use manny
No. And it's obvious. Merchant takes a long time to think and pauses a lot when he starts. Lampley is just a very intelligent, thoughtful, and wordy guy and always has been. He has a good command of the English language.
ok i get you. But I swear, I was watchin Pac vs Velasquez an hour ago, and on ta intro, JIM looked like he was reading sumthing. I mean, MAYBE THEy DONT MOST OF TA TIME, but no way in hell, Jim freestyled ta introduction of errr HBO fights.
