I dont think Calzaghe's slapping myself, he's definitely using close fists and i've tried it myself. It works when i do it, its not really my style but they still hurt people and the speed you can upload them is unreal!! Lacy throws huge haymakers every shot and a good opponent should see them before he even throws one, considering how much effort he puts into every shot they dont seem that powerful.
Lacy's a dangerman but i dont think Calzaghe should be worried about him, i'd be more worried about Kessler.
You've been quiet lately mate.
It does look like he slaps a bit when he flurries but most fighters do when it's done at that speed. I agree, it's still hard enough to disorientate the other guy and give openings for the bigger shots.
I need to see more of Kessler but he does look a more rounded fighter than Lacy.
Lacy's not really hurting guys with his cuffs either. The guys he stopping were generally still perfectly lucid when the ref stepped in.

you cant hurt someone by slapping at them

It's not my logic dude, it's the generally accepted definition of a prime.
Tell me why you think Lacy's so great if you apply your reasoning to his level of competition. Surely an IBF champion with 4 defences should have fought someone decent by now? Calzaghe's resume at 28 years old makes Lacy's look laughable.
Yes I did bring SRR into and it's clear for everyone to see the context in which he was used. Hagler too if you didn't notice.
How's that hypocracy working out for you?
Come off it man, by that logic, Reggie Strickland has a "prime".
All your huffing and puffing doens't change the fact that Joe Calzaghe is a sheltered unproven fighter who (you've admitted) has wasted his career.
Stop trying to sugar coat it to make yourself feel better.
They guy fought meidocre opposition, has never proven himself, and now at 32, has the handfull of people who cheer for him making excuses for how he's a shadow of his former self.
And did I see you spin Ray Robinson's name into your non sense?
You just keep getting more and more laughable.

No, noooo Bozo, please tell me you're not trying to bend the English language to fit your argument. Hehehe... so a fighter's prime isn't the period in which he's considered to be at his physical and mental peak now, eh? Interesting....
If those fighters are mediocre then I guess Ray Robinson's only very good, Hagler's ok and Tyson's poor at best in your eyes? You must think Lacy's appalling then.
It doesn't bother me at all, it just amuses me to wach bitter and twisted xenophobes trying to explain their rants. Your arguments would even have a modicum of substance if you weren't trying to use them to belittle JC in relation to Lacy. Again, tell me how your points on standard of opposition don't apply even more so to Lacy please.
Could you give me a bit more on the direct corrolation between a fighters achievemnets and their ability to sustain a physical prime please, this bit really interests me. :D
And if you consider them anything above meidocre, you've just shown how either biased or out right delusional you are.
Calzaghe has never beat anything better than a meidocre fighter.
Deal with it.
Both Curry and Tyson actually accomplished something in their prime before it was over.
I don't know why this is so difficult for some of you to understand or accept: Calzaghe didn't have a prime, because he's never accomplished anything.
All he had is what could be referred to as potential.
He wasted that potential fighting soft opposition being sheltered, never grew, never had a career defining fight, and that's why he's regarded with such indifference.
It's hard to understand why that troubles some of you the way it does.
I don't need to justify the credibilty of any of those guys really, their accomplishments speak for themselves. If you seriously consider them mediocre then you've sold yourself.

I don't know the reason why he would be past his prime at 32 but his last 3 fights would indicate it. Maybe all the injuries? Maybe he doesn't live right? Tyson was past his best at 25 and Don Curry not much later than that.

joe had heavy hands
lacys are heavier
joe slaps his punches
..and Lacy cuffs his(on the occasions when he actually manages to hit what he's aiming for)
LOL, you're so full of shit it's untrue. Just about every point you've made is even more applicable to Lacy at this point so why are you so tight on his nuts? He's 28 years old FFS, not a kid.

I've never once called Joe "great", but his best was a damn site better than anything Lacy's showed he's capable of achieving at this point.

Lacy may prove to be better than anything Calzaghe's faced but he's got to show ALOT more than he has so far.
Don't get me wrong, I'm in agreement that JC's wasted his career but it's not as bad some people on here make out. There wasn't much wrong with it upto 2002.
This is just more non sense.
And for your informantion, I have seen all of these fights, and a few others. They're all available on the torrent sites.
You took that list of meidocire fighters and tried to list reasons why they were credible.
They were nowhere near deserving of labeling him anywhere near "great".
Beating a bucnh of faded and meidocre fighters means NOTHING.
If that's his "prime" to you, you're just another in the handfull of those who are kidding themselves.
There's no reason why he should be such a shadow of his former self at 32.
It's because he 'never was'.
Lacy at this point would eat up Calzaghe at any point.
All you (and others on here like you) are doing is prepping an excuse.
Joe has never fought anyone as good as Lacy is right now in his entire career. Again, he's going to lose, because he's wasted his entire career failing to prepare himself for a challenge like this.
"Calzaghe can bang, I mean really bang. He is just a banger." - Chris Eubank
"No complaints. I gave it a good go and it was pretty even, but it was Joe's heavier punches that dragged the fight his way more and more until I could take no more. I was beaten by the better fighter." - Richie Woodhall
"I tried my best, but he was too good for me. He's heavy-handed, quick-handed and him being a southpaw just makes it difficult. It will take a very big effort for someone to beat him." - Charles Brewer
"I've never been hit so hard so often." - Byron Mitchell

Bozo,
Of course Eubank was past his prime but he was still good enough to beat just about anybody on the scene today and he didn't do too badly in his 2 bouts with Thompson afterwards 2 divisions up.
Woodhall was a class fighter and only a boxrec stat monkey who'd never seen Woodhall fight would try and discredit this win. He injured his arm early in the Holmes fight.
Followed Reid's career closely have you? If he wasn't all that why are people giving Lacy so much credit for beating an old, under-prepared and unfocused version of him?
Brewer's always been hit and miss and mixed in decent performances with shit ones but I'd be more impressed if Lacy had a win against him than any of his wins so far. You call having Echols down 3 times in the 2nd being brutalized? Get a clue.
Everyone who fought Ottke came out of Germany with a loss so what's your point?
Since when has it been unfeasible for a fighter to be past his prime at 32? Calzaghe's looked like shit in his last 3 fights compared to his best, which is why I qualified my opinion. He's come back from sticky spells before to reproduce decent form and if he does so again, Lacy has no chance.
Try watching the guy fight to form your opinion instead of jumping on the stat bandwagon, he's clearly a superior fighter to Lacy. Lacy's closer to Maussa than Mayweather in terms of skill level.
MD,
Can you offer me another explanation to JC's below par performances in his last 3 fights other than him probably being on the slide? It certainly wasn't to do with the level of competition.
This is just more non sense.

Lacy is a monster he throws with raw power and is relentless. His denfense lacks but he is picking up skills and confidence in every fight. If Calzahge fights Lacy like that he will be put to sleep. To hurt lacy u have to throw very hard and often, Lacy will not respect that pity pat shit.
Lacy ko in 6 ;)
