He's top 10, but #1 is stretching it.
Robinson, Greb, Hagler and Monzon all rank higher.
20 wins is great, but you can't take a stat and say it's the end all be all.
Sugar Ray also.
Hopkins is a great fighter no doubt. But.
Consider Hagler vs a fella named Hearns:

Or another guy named Mugabi:

A coupla other guys Hagler battled were named Duran and Leonard.
As great as Hopkins undoubtedly is, you won't find any similarly awesome displays of will as the above.
Hopkins would have fought with any fighter in history and done philly proud as he always has. But he simply didn't have these battles to bring him to the same level as even the relatively recent Hagler...
Actually Greb won the Light-Heavyweight title before he won the Middleweight one, against much tougher opposition, as well as beating some good Heavyweights (& I don't think he ever weighed more than 160 either)
Ok so now he's better than Greb and Monzon. He moved up and captured the Undisputed Light Heavyweight title.

Hopkins is probably top 10, but definitely not top 5.
Agreed-Anything Hopkins has, Hagler had better= 1. Chin: Hagler never decked hurt 2. Power: Either hand 3. Beat the best, never lost a rematch.
Hagler the he fought Hearns or Mugabi beats any middleweight whoever lived
Hopkins should never be considered the best middleweight. I sincerely think that Hopkins is overrated. He is boring, economical, counter puncher, low KO power, horrible attitude, ugly as f***, and dirty. Has he beat some good opponents? Yes,.... but has he looked good doing it? not really. Great middleweights are those that have provided us with exciting fights. Hagler, Sugar Ray Robinson, RJJ, Lamotta, Cerdan, Ketchel,Monzoon, Greb. In my opinion it is not who you beat or how many belts you hold, but how you beat them, that Is what makes a great champion. Charisma also plays a role. But overall, my feeling is that Hopkins has not provided us with many exciting fights. This is evident even with the fact that he was not a PPV fighter until the end of his career, and when he was it was because of his opponents. Nobody likes to watch the guy. That does not make a "great middleweight". He also never went up or down in weight. The previous fighters mentioned did and for the most part, succeeded. He lost to the only true "good" middleweights that he fought(RJJ and Taylor). He beat an inflated DLH and Tito. He is overrated, and no way is he number 1.
yeah, everyone on the board knows im a big Hopkins fan and he's not the #1 greatest, that easily goes to Sugar Ray Robinson. But Hopkins is in my top 10 middleweights though.

Also, don't try and say he had the best resume because he didn't...but that's not what made him so great, it was the way he diminished all his opponents...
Over a ten year period breaking the all time record for middleweight defenses not losing more than 4 rounds to any opponent.
