Cuss told Ali that Foreman did not respect him at all and believed Ali had no punching power, Cuss told him to show him his power and he did. I got that little documentary made on Ali's life in the early 70s, he was banned from boxing then. Ali was just showing off his style and how he would beat all of Cuss' favourite fighters such as Joe Louis, whilst they were shadow boxing Cuss punches him on the lip, it wasn't bleeding though.

]] ========================= Gus's main two fighters, Patterson and Mathis both lost to Ali. Of course Ali was a great all time talent, but as a member of the opposing camp Cus always saw his flaws. He famously gets into a debate with Ali in the early 70s where Ali jumps up to show off his style, whipping jabs at Cus, and the 60 yr old Cus times him perfectly with a shot and bloodies his lip in a move he had told Ali that he was susceptable to. Ali shut up after that and always had begrudging respect for old Cus. It's my understanding that supposedly Cus picked Ali over Tyson in a mythical bout between the two, but of course Cus died before he ever saw Tyson at his best when he terrorized and took over the division.
