Ok Ok...before you start flaming me...
I never watched boxing in the Roy Jones era...
So I have no real proof if he was ducking people or not...
I hear from lot of people he has been, and heard the opposite from many..
I'd like to hear from some UNBIASED people...
Your info has to be credible too...
I realised lately I've been very close minded, and feel better being open, so here's your chance...
Has Roy ducked man fighters? Or has he not?
========Has Roy ducked man fighters? Or has he not?===========
** Let's put it this way, Roy used to quack when he walked, until he got so old that he couldn't duck no more and wasn't even graced with a chicken dance on the way down.
There are over a dozen top fighters the Roy never faced, many of them HOFer types. Now we can excuse some of those potential fights by understanding that some were Brits who mainly fought in England and other Euro types, and it's almost impossible for any fighter to fight every credible contender since there is a constant rotation of top fighters. But even his fans started to abandon Roy, labeling him Reluctant Roy or No Stones Jones.
Fighters who jumped through all of Jones negotiating hoops and signed special Roy approved fight contracts left at the alter: Buster Douglas, Vasili Jirov, and Corrie Sanders. In addition Roy's top LH comp, DM, flew to Florida to attend one of Roy's fights against one of his municipal workers to promote a fight with Roy. Roy never acknowledged his presence. When the rematch with Bernard Hopkins was proposed, Roy went on TV before fighting a garbageman and just flat out told the public he was too big and strong for Bernard and "you don't want any part of this" instead of promoting a potential big money fight against a guaranteed HOFer.
Yeah, Roy, we musta forgot, LOL!
Jones destroyed Sosa in his first fight at lightheavyweight, who was a tough guy who put pressure on him and tried to pin him to the ropes.
IMO, that fight shows Jones was at his best under pressure, the counters and short hook uppercut combos were sick.
I dont believe for a second he ducked Collins, if anything Jones was a businessman who didnt fight certain guys because of moneys issues.
but sosa isnt stevie collins, stevie was very rough on the inside, very good infighter.
Well hi there. freddieroach says that roy jones was only fighting guys who he knew didnt want to fight him and knew they couldnt win, freddie says roy woulnt cope with stevies standing up to him being fearless and believing he will win. freddie says stevie would of been at roys chest, stuck to roy like glue, lots of infighting that roy wasnt as good as stevie at and roughhouse tactics to throw him off .this is coming from freddie roach who is a great tranier.

oh and by way stevie fought half his career in boston and americas, he would go to roy backyard. but roy was actually willing to come to ireland in 1999 because he ran out of opponents and needed stevie for his legacy before retiring.
Bull crap. 99? Owned. Collins retired inn 97, RJJ wasnt goin abroad again after getting robbed at Korea
so if RJJ was "willing to come to ireland" then how the heck was he ducking Collins? Why didnt tyhe fight happen then ?

Roach is a shit coach & this just confirms it.
Collins was very slow & clumsy while RJJ was very fast & talented- its a mismatch,

roy jones ducked steve collins in the mid90s. freddie roach still says collins would of beaten him.
HA HA HA.
Imagine this- Rocky Marciano without his power tryin to beat Muhammad Ali. thats more likely than steve fucking Collins beating RJJ!!!! Lol!!!
RJJ didnt duck him, most likely collins wouldnt leave shitty ireland & RJJ wasnt gonna go there after seein how Eubanks was treated ther.
RJJ ducked nobody really, there IS actualy always a valid excuse for each world class fighter around his weights, honest! RJJ was gonna fight Mcclellan if he beat Benn, gonna fight Benn if Mcclellan didnt get hurt, gonna fight Nunn if he beat Rocky, gonna fight DM if he went to U.S, gonna fight Vander if he beat Ruiz, its a shame that the fights didnt come off nd maybe RJJ is pissed about it & was unlucky about not getting the comp.
I remember watching RJJs fights on Eurosport back in the day (Percy Harris, Malinga etc) when people were saying that he might the guy who could beat Benn or Eubank .. but Sugar Boy was causing RJJ lots of problems and I dont think that immature version of RJJ would of been smart enough to beat Eubank (Eubank outpoints him) and I think he would of rushed in too much against Benn as RJJ did back then (big mistake against Benn) .. but around 1994/95/96 he would of outpointed Benn and Eubank every time (with the possible exception of the Benn that fought GMAN) ..
hmm
Another note. Whoever it was that said Roy found a way to avoid Hopkins should learn to watch boxing or read the websites. Roy offered Hopkins a rematch in 2002 and Hopkins turned it down, feeling a 60-40 split with the p4p king was not good enough. Hops would have made the most money of his life at that point vs Roy (6$ million) and he flat out did not take it.
Get lost with that BS.
hmm
Well Tarver lost the fight so at that time he should have been moved. But Roy fought him again. Anywho...
The question was did Roy duck MANY fighters. The answer is a flat out no. It amused me when people say Roy ducked ppl like Jirov and McClellan, when Jirov wasn't even in the same weight class and McClellan's career was ended right b4 they were to fight each other. When Benn won vs G-man, he was done. He was never the same and proved this by losing to Thulane Malinga, who Roy dominated and KO'd easily.
Additionally, only a fool or a Brit would say Roy ducked Eubank. Eubank wouldn't give Roy a title shot when Roy was coming up. As a result, when Roy was on top, he did not give an aging Eubank a shot either. Eubank fucked that one up.
As far as Dariusz goes...he was content fighting only in Germany and being heralded there. No one would or should rightfully expect RJJ to fight in Germany, period. Those that do just wanted to see him lose. Also, Roy was robbed of Olympic gold in foreign territory in 1988 which forever tainted the chance of him fighting abroad. In any case, most Americans fight in America as do most top notch fighters so it would be foolish to criticze Roy for staying in the U.S. which has many neutral sites to have a match.
So no, Benn, Eubank, Dariusz, Jirov, and G-man were not ducked. Those that say he ducked them are gripping onto the slim chance they might have had to beat Roy or just flat out lying.
Ruiz wasn't the best champ ever, but he had good wins going into the bout with Roy and 50% of the media/fans picked Ruiz to KO Jones. Anyone who faults Roy for taking a fight vs a bigger champ instead of fighting Lewis, a man who is 6'5'' and 250 lbs is obviously a hater, period. No one says Ruiz was THE champ, but he was a champ and the win was a good one. PPl who hate on Roy for fighting him are just mad cuz they wanted to see him get KO'd vs Lennox Lewis.
Next.
Did RJJ duck competition... not so much. I think the bigger thing is he does as most fighters do in this era of boxing, take a fight you can win and keep it up. I don't think he really felt obligated to fight anybody, nor was he running scared. He chose to take low risk fights and please crowds with his skills rather than take a big fight with lots of risk but only a mediocre reward. RJJ was a great fighter, and probably could've taken Benn, Eubank, etc... but the world will never know for sure. They would've been great fights though.
hey bro u seem coo jus because u said he's still 2 damm fast like me lol...or w/e u said it wuz coo
but the truth is jones fought alot of gr8 fighters
hopkins,toney,ruiz etc etc
but he did dodge sum fights but only because he's a smart guy
he knos his style and he knos who 2 fight
ROY JONES 4 EVA
ohh ya and the fact that he came back after a year off
and fought sum1 who knocked him out cold
should tell u that he's not afraid 2 fight any1
u used great and ruiz in the same sentence. i am absolutly sure u didnt mean it. dont worry i forgive u ;)
he beat an undeveloped b-hop and found ways to avoid him for a couple of years, he was smart but sometimes that could make you look like a coward. he did fight after a year off but we saw what happend there. tarver was not that good and only got recognizion because he showed that anybody can go down with one good punch.
