Merchant is a racist old bitch. I hate him. He doesn't nuthug? Ummm...wtf you talking about? He was ALL OVER the Klitschkos' sacks. He's a rude little fucker that's going to get laid out one day. Hopefully by a fighter I hate, so I'll get rid of two at once. Who the hell is Larry Merchant to call fights boring? He called Judah vs. Corley boring! Ha! He calls any match that isn't all brawling boring. If anybody actually uses some defense, its like he throws off on them. Merchant talks down to George Foreman a lot. If Foreman weren't such a...nevermind. Merchant also LOVES to give even rounds, which is annoying. Pay attention to the next few HBO fights. I guarantee, if the fights go any rounds he'll have a round even in at least 8 or the next 10 fights. Why doesn't this dinosaur just die already? It is Max's time to shine. While some of Merchant's tangents or relations are forced or contrived, generally he's dead on with his observations. That he limits his in-fight comments shows that he usually wants what he says to be both pertinent and prudent. When Lampley was off air (I think it was for Taylor-Edouard and Hopkins-Eastman) in February, Merchant's sparse play-by-play was magnificently in the style of old-school newsreel.

I never really liked the guy, but I'm so used to him. He has both good and bad moments.

Remember how he fucked around with Lennox Lewis after his fight with Klitschko? It's not easy to make the HW champ who just won the fight to say "I don't know what you are talking about, Larry" four times. That was funny as hell. yeah that was fuckin hilarious...... he musta been up to something. thats one reason i like larry merchant, in an era of sports interview filled with loaded questions and "whats your favorite car ?" kinda question its cool to see larry merchant put someone on the spot here and there, even if it sometimes a little off base

i really could care less about what they say so long as i find them entertaining, i dont put anymore stock into what they say than i do in what anyone else does. i see what i see and i make my own conclusions. more often than not i dont remember anything they said. if i watch a fight over and over often i will turn the commentary off... and the first time im usually jumpin around around the room yellin "knock that mutherfucker out"

Sorry I disagree about Foreman and wish I had a mute button.RJJ is great he damn near predicts what will happen before the outcome.I mean the HBO crew as a whole is good a few bias for HBO fighters but Larry has balls. James Toney damn near bitchslapped Jim Grey in the ring on Showtime and when RJJ whupped his ass Larry was like, 'James how does it feel to get mastered in the ring like that?' WTF that was when Toney was in his prime and those were Larry's exact words? It would be funny to see some fighter lay him out. I doubt he ever laced up a glove in his life.

At 1st I could not stand the guy but after years of watching I can respect his opinion and commentary. He doesn't nut hug like Jim and say stupid shit like Foreman. He calls it like he sees it and THEN gets in the ring to ask a loser bascially how does it feel to get your ass whupped. I like him. Same here I couldn't stand him. Larry Merchant is an idiot. He says stupid shit all the time and frankly the people that cant detect it are sad. Roy Jones has had to smack him back to reality a few times that he is just a spectator. I always thought he said some pretty stupid things, I was sure he couldnt be a real boxing fan. And the night of Castillo vs Corrales It was pretty much confirmed. He was in Santa Monica at some cafe during fight time NOT watching the fight.

He has been around many a moons and has witnessed more championship fights than any other member of the HBO crew.He does appear drunk or heavily medicated most of the time but is kind of clever in a goofy way and does ask the tough questions after the fight.Go Larry Merchant for what it is worth...but I do get pissed at him from time to time as well.
