Hmmm, I've never been a fan of sole scoring, but with all the terrible decisions of late I'm beginning to reconsider! I've been convinced for the longest that it's impossible for the ref. to do ALL the work but he is the one that's in there with the guys and see's the action better than anyone else possibly can, so there is a definate "upside" to sole scoring. The problem lies in if he's the least bit biased.....how much will that affect his score?
I wont bother with a poll cause my 'boxing' threads usually dont do so well (not enough naked ladies I guess :D ) but I'm interested in others opinion on if S.S. for each and every fight would be an improvement to the sport.
Wow, a boxing scene first....we ALL agree on something :D ...that sole scoring sucks and it definately is NOT the answer. A few good ideas too; I like the 10 judges as long as theyre not tripping all over each other, and that 30 sec's inbetween rds could be used to "review" each rd. and for sure senior citizens have got to go. (think that takes care of glen hamada, david roth ??, duane ford, and so many more.)
I don't think a referee should score a fight. He or she has enough to watch to try to keep things rolling. No way they could acurately score a fight.
Maybe a good start would be to have judges under the age of 70 :D
I would like to see the scores posted during the fight after each round.
the british system has only just gone from ref scoring fights in, i believe its a step forward, the refs job is to look after the fighters not to score, thats the beauty (and sometimes bummer) of boxing its subjective, no system is perfect
Ta referre shoulnt judge. It aint his job and he too busy watchin fighta doin dirty tactics like Erk Morales' headbutt on Pac, or Barrera steppin on Pac's foot in round 1. LOL!!!
Seriously, here's ma contribution!
YOU WANT A FAIR JUDGING SYSTEM? Get ta judges to watch ta fight on tape/TV 3 times afta ta fight ends and make up their minds. I believe tis will give way to mo ACCURATE decisions.
It fell directly in his jurasdiction. And he fully handled it with dignity and integrity. Brad Wright is a good man.
Rockin' :boxing:
Great, good to hear that something was done about that situation  .
If Im involved in the fight there will most definately be accountability. I will not be coersed or bribed or whatever. Brad Wright has taken over the Michigan boxing for the last few years and has done a great job in the accountability department. If a ref or judge does such a terrible job with their duties that it warrants a suspension or termination, that is exactly what Brad does. He is one to follow or join.
Rockin' :boxing:
Cool, was he involved in any investigation into the Emanuel Augustus-Courtney Burton decision, or did that not fall in his jurisdiction?
There's no accountability no matter who is judging the fight, which is another problem. Unfortunately this is a time when if the sport was popular it would come in handy. Cause whenever an NFL ref or MLB ump makes a controversial decision it's splashed all over the sports pages, whereas in boxing there's little to no public pressure.
I believe that the refferee should not score in the fights. When your reffing a fight many things are happening very quickly. As a referee, you do have a good view of just about everything. However, it would comprise a referees ability to focus on the actuall fight if he was rolling scores throught his mind during the bout. Ofcourse I have my opinions after reffing a fight of who won the bout. And if I disagree with the decision I just roll with it. Because I know that I have done my job in the bout and the judges have just done theirs.
What we need are unbiased judges, sent by the A.B.C (Associated Boxing Commision, of which I am pleased to have aligned myself with.) These judges and referees may not be the favorites of the promoters and the fighters but they will give the fans of the sport the unbiased and fair decisions that they deserve. The ABC may be white horsed hero that rescues our sport, or atleast a part of it.

See, thats always been my opinion on it too....the ref. is too busy trying to make sure the fight stays clean, etc. to see who is actually winning. As for tabulating the scores, I assumed they did it more by who they thought won each rd. or who performed better overall. I've only seen sole scoring done in England, and I hated it. But, desperate times, desperate measures and all that. Somethings gotta give, thats for sure. As for the ABC, who cares if the promoters like them or not..if they dont then there has to be a good reason for it...like maybe they cant be persuaded or something? Thats exactly the kind of judges I'd love to see doing it.
