McClellan's demise was partly because of London Ring Rules...

everyone from the states that is into the sport knows that in europe, they simply allow hitting on the back of the head more. for those that don't know, this is where your brain stem is. last night I took another look at the legendary but tragic Benn/McClellan again, i hate watchin this fight but I watch it every now and then just to let myself know that this sport aint a game.. its tragic watching mcclellan in the first round and before the fight starts knowing it will be his last fight, but lemme get to the fuckin point. benn hit this guy about 20-25 times on the back of the head and they werent castillo corrales pussy punches. it partly had to do with the way mcclellan clinched, but the ref was physically afraid of both men. mcclellan punked the ref in the first round and benn made a fool out of him in round 8 or 9, I forget. the ref warned benn for hitting on the back of the head and he basically mocked him. YOU CANT FUCKING DO THAT IN THE RING...THE REF SHOULD BE THE BOSS. FUCKING EURO BOXING PUSSY REFS. cast/corr was a great fight but lets face it, they werent throwing like hagler hearns in round one. these were full torso and legs into those nigel benn rabbit punches, they were power rabbit punches. The thing is though, I think benn did that because he was afraid for himself because of that first round scare... and it was instinctual.... BUT AFTER HE GOT MCCLELLAN HURT, he kept doing it ..throwing those motherfucking rabbit punches at full force with his TORSO and LEGS into it..not just regular rabbits....land a straight right hand and then land a rabbit power punch, ...europe's boxing is fucked up, i honestly feel sorry for ricky hatton for being from there as good as he is he employs the same goddamn tactics except he actually wrestles someone to get their head in that position then power rabbits em. that must be what their training camp calls that shot, a power rabbit.. note: i like hatton..dont h8 for me sayin that..u kno its true hattonfan_098.. My point? If Benn/McClellan had taken place in vegas, Benn woulda been DQ before the brutal KD's and brutal punches, McClellan would likely still be fighting today and maybe have given us more good fights, after all he was a pretty amazing puncher. and he could correct his punches mid flight well, and still land a decent punch like if someone ducks, he can redirect and land a good shot on you..mayweather style did you see the right hand Benn landed when G man was dazed before it was over..?? it was really one of the top ten most brutal shots ever..and not only that, he followed it up with a POWER rabbit punch. i just dont understand how london would allow that shit to take place and the thing is ...they havent done anything about it since then. mayweather better not ever go over there and fight, make em come to us. unless MW masters wrestling beforehand... ;D benn knew the back of the head was a lethal spot, he was a trained world class fighter. one of my favorite I might add. that's why he never visited mcclellans family because he knew they watch teh fight sometims themselves most likely and see him doin that cheap lethal shit. power rabbit punching...pfft.

i got a good laugh at that because it's kinda true. they really don't allow hitting behind the head, but you know what im sayin, if your tyson you can bite off a piece of an ear and get away with a warning. Just goes to show you how much media influences boxer treatment. If it was any other fighter the first bite woulda DQ'd him..but since it was Tyson and it was a big fight they didn't do it. I bet DLH could have gotten away with an ear bite warning as well. Yeah, I'd agree. Tyson got away with plenty in his career that others maybe wouldn't have - the Botha, Williams, Holyfield and Savarese fights spring to mind and I'm sure there's more. Plenty goes on in the ring all over the world. I've never seen Holyfield pulled up for his headbutting and the whole mouthpiece debacle was a joke. Then you've got Maussa's floor shot (even though it was funny as hell) and controversial moments in PBF v Gatti and Lacy v Reid so it's hardly fair to pin it all on UK refs. In the UK there seems to be a tendancy to let it ride if both fighters are at it. In the Benn McClellan fight, Benn definitely let a few more go but I counted at least 4 full blown shots to the back of the head by G-Man when Benn was ducking low. He was getting in there with the elbow too so neither fighter was innocent. The referee was from France though, so not really a UK refereeing issue.

Nard is one of my favorite fighters but he is dirty man. He uses whatever tactic necessary and likes to throw punches not only on the cup, but on the legs and thighs. Vanderpool ate like ten on the cup, plus elbows. I watched the Holmes fight again and that was ridiculous. He was getting dirty as hell. What equals that out is the way he doesnt bitch about cheapshots, and he recieves alot of them. He could have "bitched" out against Echols but decided not to. Equally Hatton didnt bitch about the illegal shots he received, and did some back. Because lets not forget, who did the first meaningful illegal blow, that had the potential to change the fight around completely. Tszyu!

so you're saying you didn't see hatton vs tszyu and mcclellan vs benn, those 2 fights are the only ones you really need to see to confirm the way things work over there.. might wanna take a look at valuev vs etienne as well just to confirm it, over there they simply consider it a part of boxing. Whereabouts in England did the Valuev-Etienne fight take place and on what undercard? I don't recall those fighters ever fighting here.

Nigel Benn threw the hardest punches I ever saw a middleweight throw until abandoning that after the Watson fight, 87-88 he left opponents hospitalised with single shots and you could HEAR the sickening impace of the shots. He brought that back for the McClellan fight, that's what did the damage (McClellan's chin was too good).

Sorry but i think Gerald Mclelan's demise came from his severe lack of conditioning and his warrior mentality. It was apparent from early on in that fight Mcleland wasnt in condition, thats why he was having "trouble" with the moutpiece he was sucking wind through his mouth and his piece didnt allow air to get in between the teeth as some do. This severe lack of oxygen, coupled with exhaustion, made the punches he took that much more damaging. I believe if Gerald had been in top condition he would have been much more resistant to the punches no matter where they were.

How is it possible to throw a "Full power" shot to the back of someones head - for this to be possible the guy would have to be looking/facing the other way. I havenmt seen the fight in a long time - but i do find it hard to believe that he managed to do that.(just my opinion)
